Poll – Dual Position Sicily

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 18 2018

This is a question I’ve been contemplating over the last week or two………In a perfect team structure, is James Sicily better positioned in the back line?  Or forward line?  At his current average of 112 (and showing no sign of slowing down), Sicily qualifies quite comfortably as a Top 6 DEF & FWD with his dual position status.

The real question here is…….in which position is there more depth of decent Supercoach options?  Using a 100avg as a benchmark……….there are currently four Defenders over 100, with Hurley at 99 & Howe at 98.  Concurrently, there are six Forwards averaging over 100 pts, although two of those are Franklin and Parfitt (currently injured).  So where are you going to place Siciily in your perfect team?  Forward? Back? Explain!!

Is James Sicily (HAW) better suited as DEF or FWD?

  1. Ive got him in backline for now because there arent as many def premium options. Its yeo, laird, simpson and then maybe hurley the rest are a toss up.

In forward line there are number of options, mclean, gray, heeney are locks then guys like westhoff, mundy, buddy, darling, walters, menegola could all be viable f4-6 options. Plus alot of people have devon smith who can afford to stick around till at least his bye.

      1. Haha yeah thats what i meant, hes doing a good job and is f4 or 5 for a lot of people so no rush to move him on. The mid pricers in backline like luke ryan, bonner etc arent as reliable so sicily would be of better use there.

  2. I think the backs are fairly clear this year in being Laird, Yeo Simmo, Hurley, Howe and then a smokey in Webster/Hurn/Lloyd etc. whereas the forwards are a bit harder to see a set top 6. I’ve got Gray, Heeney, McLean, and then it’s a toss up between Westhoff, Dev Smith, Mundy, Buddy, Darling and Walters. Since there is so much uncertainty between the rest of the forwards I think Sicily should be in the forward line.

    1. I like how this is basically a re-write of the first comment, but with a completely different opinion.

I also like the idea of a switch depth player.. eg T Mac and Sicily.

      1. Lol I noticed that too. I guess its based on how big a risk you want to take. You can see it as def has more certainty so you don’t need sicily there or you can see it as forward line has more opportunity so you want more spots available there.

  4. i don’t think it really matters where he ends up. Keep upgrading rookies until you’re filling that last spot in the DEF or FWD line and whichever best suits your structure is where he should end up. Obviously if you end up with TMac as well, then ideally you want them at opposite ends, but it’s not critical, just helpful if one of them gets injured/suspended!

He’s changed positions for me almost every week since I’ve had him (post Rd2), depending on the issue/opportunity I’ve wanted to address to optimise. I see that as the main value of his DPP status above everything else.

Early in the season, it looked like the FWDs had more options to offer than the DEFs. Now it appears the other way round. Things can change quickly.

In short, I wouldn’t get hung up on it, just have him where best suits your structure/trades at the time. Just make sure that you have him.
