Poll – Fringe Rookies

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 27 2017

Florent 44, Hibberd 23, Otten 45, Taranto 44, Hampton 50, Pickett 23…………the list goes on and on.  Good news is that we’re (pretty much) all in the same boat when it comes to rookie selections.

Of course, we weren’t looking for them to score tons straight off the bat (has to be said).  Although there’s a lot of worry to be had before selections are made for Rd2 this week.  Who can hold their spot?  Who is in the most danger of losing their spot after one average game?  What are your thoughts?

Which rookies are most at risk of losing their spot for Rd2? (four choices)

    1. I’ll be serious now

      Retain: Hampton, Pickett, McCarthy
80/20: Simpkin, Eddy, Stewart, Taranto, Preuss, Parfitt
      50/50: Barrett, Florent, Otten
      20/80: Hibberd

Winning teams will be less likely to mess with structure.

      1. do you think its worth considering a downgrade of FLorent to butler and Hibberd to McGrath, based on scoring and Job Security?

        1. I personally wouldn’t be trading any rookies out Rd1 but if so, you’d want to err on the side of caution.

Menadue scored 80 Rd1 last year then smashed out a 47 average for the next 8 weeks before being dropped. Butler/McGrath could very well post stinkers next week and you’ll be kicking yourself.

            1. That is why you never take the Pre Season form.

Held strong on Touk Miller based on the end of last years form.

              1. I was referring to Touks rookie year, he scored 30 odd in his first 2 games, I and many others traded him out and he went on to be one of the best rookies of the year.

          1. Ah yeah definitely going to wait till rd 2 but if scoring continues in this fashion would you rate butler and mcgraths JS better than florent/hibberd?

      2. Hope you’re correct about Pickett as. I have him. I think Otten will hold his spot as Lever won’t be ready. Was hoping Otten may play quite a lot of games. Not so sure after watching him yesterday.

        1. Always a worry when a player contributes 40 odd points in a victory of that nature. Similar problem with Hampton, but at least his stage there’s never guarantees they’ll turn out shocking, they could both be top 10 rookies come end of season

  1. Going to more about returning best 22 players, otherwise I think the rooks get a second chance by their coaches. Winning teams less likely to change a rook for one bad game. ADL more likely to bring in at least Tex which probably puts Kelly on the fringe rather than Otten or Hampton.

Of the others, North carried the most rooks so could look to reinject experience but in the spirit of the rebuild, should not!

    1. What about Lever, isn’t he back soon? And Cunnington will be back this week. Other then those two potential replacing Otten and Hibberd/Mountford I can’t see any of the others getting dropped. You don’t just drop rookies after 1 match. Gotta give them a go, unless you’re an Australian cricket selector.

  2. Cow talk is going to talk about this, so not going to write a long sermon right now. But, to sum up – don’t even think about trading rookies in or out until after Round 2! Double the data, and no price moves before then. I suppose if you need to bring someone in to avoid a donut then you may want to.

Note that J. Smith is a great loophole option this week.

  3. Why do people think Pickett will lose his spot? Whether his spot in our teams deserves to be secure is another matter, but it’s very unlikely Carlton will drop him.

  4. Does Guns & Rookies still work when it’s Guns & Witches Hats? A lot of the rookies we all have look like they will make little to no money.

  5. Everyone has to be remember that rd1 rookies scores only stay in their price cycle for the first price rise so most the scores are irrelevant, it’s more about what the rookies put up this week
Strict no trade policy for rd1 barring injuries

  6. Florent might get a reprieve and keep his spot with Robinson breaking a collarbone which Longmire said opens the door for rookies Newman and Hayward.
Rampe looks like being replaced by Aliir Aliir after his 3 comeback games in the Reserves.

  7. The only trade id consider is if i had smith down back, hibbered in the mids, didnt have SPP and had all the rookies that looked shakey. Would trade smith for spp with the thoughts of needing to trade 2 before rnd 3. But thats a lot of ifs and thankfully not something i have to worry about (not having spp that is)
