Poll – Replacing Cogs

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 16 2019

CrouchPotatoes asked the question of a replacement for Coniglio in the Polling Station and we’re only happy to help…….

A huge blow for the Giants over the weekend……..Stephen Coniglio may well have played his last game for the club.  Unfortunately he went off the ground early with what appears to be a PCL injury.

Cogs also appeared in 20% of SuperCoach teams up until the weekend but the search is now on for his replacement.  Most of us already have ‘The Big Four’ (Cripps, Neale, Macrae & Fyfe) so we’ll look away from those obvious replacements.

Imagine for a moment that you’re running low on trades and cash, then who would you replace Coniglio with?  Or another way to word it would be…….which of the following value MIDs will score the most pts OVER THE LAST SIX WEEKS?

Best replacement for Coniglio? (three choices)

  1. Hard to pass a Zerrett at under 500k, pretty much a tag free run home. If you’ve got the coin to spare though, Yeo looks good.

  2. I have
Macrae, Cripps, Fyfe. Neale, Oliver, Yeo, B Crouch and Coniglio

Since i already have Yeo and B Crouch,
Would Sloane be the best option still,
I am willing to make two trades but who would the best option be then
    Bont? Dunkley?

      1. I have One FWD and One DEF spot left
So if i were to trade in Dunkley would you say trade him into mids and swing him forward in a few weeks time when i next upgrade?

        1. Don’t think there’s a problem having Dunkley in your MID line. Lot of people have guys like Heeney and B. Crouch in their MID line.

The priority is to get those last two premo spots filled, MM.

  3. I’m in this situation. Was thinking Sloane, but he has games against Essendon (likely to be tagged by D.Clarke?), St.Kilda (likely to be tagged by Steele?) and WCE (Hatchings?) coming up.

  4. Taranto might benefit from the extra responsibility, then again, he might also cop more opposition attention (although surely you would tag Kelly first?).

    1. When or if Kelly gets back, as we know the giants are very conservative & wont play him unless he is absolutely ready

    2. Yep, or tag Whitfield. Faces COL this week and they tagged HURN last week! Seems to be a fair bit more of it in recent weeks with Laird, Lloyd and Hurn all receiving attention.

Reckon Taranto, Zerrett or Steele (yes I’m biased) are the three best options pts/$$-wise

  5. Is Bont better than all of the above options?
    TU: Yes
    TD: No
Thanks for creating the poll Schwarz!

    1. I’d want to see how that ankle is first before jumping on. WBD have allayed any fears of serious injury, but you never know.

      1. Apparently has ligament damage – much like what Heeney had that impacted him early in the year.

I think Bont will play but spend much more time forward which is likely to hurt his scoring

      1. I have found that the trick is to right-click on ‘edit post’ and open it in a new tab.

  6. One for the risk takers: Marc Murphy? Massive POD (in less than 1% of teams), only 462K, 3 round average of 117 and since Bolton was sacked his scores are 99, 125, 99, 117. He’s a bit injury prone these days but with Cripps about Murphy’s days of being tagged are over and Carlton’s run home isn’t horrible with all their games in Melbourne.

      1. Damn straight. Back off, Hplate!

I wouldn’t have recommended Murphy at the start of the year, but the risk is a lot lower with only six games to go. As a sneaky M8, I think he’s an excellent option.

  7. There should be a law with left over cash.
It should be added to our next years starting balance!!!!! LOL

ps I have approx 1/4 mill left but won’t need it just to replace injuries.

  8. Hi All – please let me know if you think Neale is better than all other options (TU if you’d take Neale). Cash not a problem 4 trades left and mids:

Macrae, Fyfe, cripps, Oliver, coniglio, crouch, gaff, j.dunkley (clarke, Bewley, Scott)

comment if you think a forward or defender is better scoring chance for run home also (I can make it work with a DPP swaps). Relevant defenders I don’t have are hurn/Whitfield and relevant forwards are Boak/Marshall/Lycett.

Thanks for your help and thanks for the post SCT team!

  9. Think we need to also look at other lines if we’ve got players that can be swung around. Great chance to get a Whitfield for those that don’t own him if you can make it work.
