Poll – Riley Bonner

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 3 2018

Riley Bonner has been looking at home in the Power backline, one that has taken home eight pts from their first two games.  At just $257k before the first price changes kick in, many Coaches are contemplating correcting their defence with Bonner.

So where do you stand?  Is it worth getting Bonner into your side?  Or has the boat already sailed?  Tell the SCT Coaches about it……..

Is Riley Bonner (PTA) a must-have in DEF?

  1. Id be a lot more keen if his scores were the other way around and that 115 would stay in his cycle for another week. Especially when he’s previous scoring was around 75-80 and it looks like thats where he’ll end up for the most part.

Basically he’s a great pick if you started him/have a forced change in the backline but he isnt worth a trade to me if hes scoring 80 avg

  2. I will probably get Bonner in for Naughton now that Sicily has been suspended a week. It allows me to loophole Murray and Murphy rather than Murray and Naughton. Also i have Finlayson in the Mids which is another reason i will most likely go with Bonner.

      1. I have got Holman and Kelly on the field in the Mids at M6 and M7 with Finlayson M8.

I might just have to wait 2 weeks or 3 weeks to get him Back. I started Finlayson in the Backs but moved him to the Mids when i traded Libba to Simpson.

  3. I’ve thought about it a bit. I chose Seedsman instead of Bonner and the Seed has been going well and will only get better with confidence I hope. Will Jasper Pittard kick Bonner out of the side when he comes back from injury soon? Maybe, maybe not, but I’ll be saving the trade. As mentioned if he’s averaging 80ish from here on I’m hoping the Seed will average a bit higher than that

  4. With Naughton doing as his name suggests, naught, Bonner at around 90k to ave 80+ for the meantime isn’t a bad result.

Does anyone know what he’d be looking to increase if he did average 80 until his bye?

    1. I’d expect him to be priced around the $430k mark iff (if and only if) he ave. 80pts to Rd10. That’s +$173k

      1. Absolutely achievable with his talent and role and certainly a reasonable return.

Line ball with the purists as this decision should be, but a risk worth taking for mine.

    1. Was thinking the same thing myself. May not necessarily push him out of the team, but will more than likely impact his scoring.

    2. Yes Pete, that’s why if you don’t have Bonner, I wouldn’t be pulling any strings to get him in.

  5. Took a punt on Wietering …I know not a great decision. However knowing it may not pay off I left 100k in the kitty.

Question is, should I save that and go weits to Bonner (T/u) or upgrade to the likes of Lloyd?

  6. He’s played 6 AFL games now for 76, 75, 81, 74, 119 and 76. Mid 70s seems to be his floor – would argue the 119 was out of the box with Pittard missing and out lackluster attack on the ball and just let him at free control of the game.

Hard to see him pushing 90+ for the season, especially once Pittard returns. Good value for those who started with him, but unless he is a keeper, you will be using two trades on him. If he goes 85 up until the main byes, you will only make $180k – not sure that’s worth the two trades.

    1. I have a dilema and thought bonner would help. I have williams (nth) and mills in backline under performing. My rookies and laird, sicily are excellent.
I wanted to trade williams @ mills for simpson and bonner…it lifts my ave from 2 players substantially from 120 to 170-180 . I realise bonner is no keeper but a stepping stone he will increase to nearly williams $$ shortly and ave more than 60 would think.
      Am i thinking correctly Hutta?

      1. If you have Finlayson, Doedee and Murray then it’s worth a shot, Mills/Williams wont get very far. Could almost go as far down as Murphy over Bonner if named as those 3 rookies can be fielded (with Laird, Simpson and Sicily as your premos). You’ll get just as much profit but have an extra $150k to spend in the near future.

        1. Cheers…was thinking similar with murphy as his first game looked solid and with Collinjurywood he will probably play a few.
