Poll – Rookie Relief

Written by Thommo on June 8 2018

Carnage has hit our squads and we are struggling to field 18 players for Round 12. With that in mind, many coaches have asked which rookies we should trade in this week. Huttabito’s comprehensive Rookie Review answers that pretty well but let’s put it toย  the question.

Select the best 2 options for the week. Please note the players who have only played 1 match have ** before their names.

Which rookie should we trade in? (2 selections)

  1. I’d rather trade a rookie in on their bye week, ie Ahern. Bit harder to get injured when not playing. Although still possible..

  2. Whoever takes Levers spot should do alright. Lever averaged 72 but if you take out his injury score last week it would push close to 80, even with a slow start.
So, Petty or Smith (Joel) should average 70+ playing a similar role to Doedee in a good team.
Also some nice F/M on extended benches, Starcevich & Wilson should go well if they make the cut

  3. Honestly i reckon that Bailey Rice 173k with a BE-26 might be a better option than Austin in the long run.

Austin is a Key Back and named at Full Back.
With Carlisle back next week and Brown back this week I think the Saints will only play 2 Key Back men with Austin the likely omission so he might just play this week before making way for Carlisle.

So Basically I think there is more risk with Austin’s JS than Rice’s.
Anyway worth thinking about for those bringing in Austin even if they are not keen on Rice at his inflated price after playing 3 games.

    1. Totally agree TDA. Went Mihocek over Austin this week for your reasons. Am not bothered if they donโ€™t play too much after byes (loophole value), but also cannot afford to bring a fifth R14 DEF in for structure. Though Mihocek was very good last week (4 goals or not). Reckon Buckley will be particularly pleased with his hardness and effort.

    2. I have Rice and am grabbing Austin. He ticks lots of boxes and who knows what will happen next week. His JS is questionable but so was Waterman’s (apparently) and that Port defender last year (was it Howard?).

    3. If Peter Wright picks up some form in the two’s, then the suns might go in with three talls next week vs saints. Is it possible then that all 3 of Carlisle, Brown and Austin play in the same backline on Lynch, Day and Wright?

      Just a thought
