Poll – Shaw Thing?

Written by Schwarzwalder on January 9 2017

While he has made many ‘Higgins Lists’ over the years, Heath Shaw has become a rock in our SC backlines over the past two seasons.  Not having missed a game in that time, Shaw has averaged 112 & 106 to stamp himself as an elite defender.

Such was his form early in 2016, that he averaged 117.4 from the first thirteen Rounds (including that massive 203 against the Dogs!).  At one stage, Shaw was priced as high as $620k+!!  His SC-output dropped off a little in the run home with Shaw only averaging 89pts over the last ten weeks.  In many of those games, the opposition started using a heavy forward tag to negate his influence.

So where does that leave him for 2017?  Shaw is entering the season at 31 years of age and carries a hefty starting price of $576 500.  The Giants are sure to play a big part in Finals……will Heath Shaw be a major player once again?  Let us know below……..

Is Heath Shaw a must-have starter in defence for 2017?

  1. Still standing by my quote on the first Rate My Team thread.

“With the emergence of the young GWS defenders (Wilson/Williams) in the middle of the season, they started taking Shaw’s role and his scoring really tapered off.

Shaw isn’t getting any younger and they are only going to give that role off more and more often. I don’t see him being worth the $576k he is priced at.”

Not saying I won’t pick him up throughout the season, just not a starter for me.
