    1. Houli is a bit injury prone, hasn’t played a full season for sometime.
Newman is cheaper and doesn’t have a history of injury.
Newman if I had to choose.

  1. Thanks Schwarzy.

One of the community raised a query in two up regarding the performance of the premium rucks and was asking if a poll was possible to see what everyone is doing with them – and particularly on the basis of is there a view that the new rules may be impacting on their scoring output.

May be a good mult-tiered poll with questions along the lines of:
Do you think the new rules are impacting on ruck scoring? And
Are you keeping or trading one or both rucks? And
    If one, which one?

Think it may well be one of the biggest talking points of the week??!!

    1. Grundy had a interrupted pre-season with a foot injury and Gawn was basically double tagged for the majority of his match. Both get a pass in my book.

    2. When Rhys Stanley scores 108 and Grundy gets 81 in the same game, there’s more going on than a slight change to the scoring.

      1. SC relevant rucks against R Stanley in 2018:
        M Gawn 93
        S Martin 82
        S Jacobs 71
        C Sinclair 122 and 128
        T Nankervis 90
        T Goldstein 112
        J Witts 82

B Grundy did not face R Stanley in 2018.

        1. Noted Adam. I might still be a tad bitter from his time with the Saints. 🙂

You’ve also just killed the dreams of 50.5% of supercoaches hoping for Gawn to improve quickly, he faces Stanley the giant killer this weekend.

      2. SuperCoach head office has flat-out denied that they have made any changes to the scoring system, so I don’t think that’s what’s causing it.

Nor do I think the new rules are having an effect – the number of stoppages on the weekend was basically the same as a typical round from last year (although Gawn’s game did have a low number… then again, Grundy’s game had a high number, so that can’t explain both of their performances).

I suspect it’s a combination of them having interrupted pre-seasons, new tactics from opposition coaches, and plain old regression to the mean.

        1. Adam posted some data / stats that showed both premo rucks HT’s and HTA were well down on their average last year.

Fully understand that they had interrupted pre seasons … but from what I watched in JLT and this round of games… I think the footy definitely flows out of the middle and then out of defence much more quickly / easily … which i would think means less chance for ball ups … and harder for the big premo rucks to get to the next ball up (its progressed further away from them than where it would have / may have been last year as it çlears’ further) … if you know what I mean? …

          1. I do. I just haven’t noticed any major difference in the style of play, personally. I guess time will tell.

    1. No! That’s rage trading at it’s finest. Oliver is a premium for a reason and one poor game does not change that.

    1. Doedee going down with that injury mid-game was the only reason Smith put together a decent score. I personally don’t rate him but the absence of Doedee will increase his scoring.

      1. I actually think it hurt his scoring – he was moved deeper into defence than where he started and was slated to get much more mid time …

    1. Remember, the hawks dont tag. Macrae is going to go bonkers. On the other hand if the game is safe, Fyfe could be rested a quarter or so. Then you don’t want to bet against him. I have him but I’ll stick to Macrae.

  2. If Rocky goes 120+ again… how many trades could you consider wasting in order to bring him in?

Or; do you even bring him in? Or just admit you missed him and wait till it’s upgrade season?

I had the same issue last year with Coniglio except I waited until before round 6 after he’d already increased $100k before wasting a trade or 2… which proved to be a disaster as the rest of his season was no where near as good as his first 5 rounds

  3. Regardless of how sneaky you think a move is, unless you somehow have the 3 blokes that did ACL’s or missed out on several decent rookies, HOLD your trades. Trading a poorly performed premo for a big scoring mid-pricer is not a shark move, it’s stupidity.

    1. What about those who jumped on Oliver when he broke out ? Sure 99% of the time it is stupid. But how often do you kick yourself for not jumping on sooner while hoping your premium turns it around. 30 trades, I think 1-2 risky trades early on is OK provided all your rookies are set and you don’t make a habit of it.

      1. You’ll get chances to trade someone.

I got oliver that year, but I got him because of an injury to a premium – not because I decided to ragetrade someone who had a bad week.

And remember you’ve only got one week of 2019 data.

    2. Scotty, Supercoach is emotional. There are people out there who have spent stack of cash on Rucks and premiums and the also unlucky not to have Newman, Sheed, Rocky, Parker, Scott…Reason is one thing, Fear Of Missing Out.. is still there

  4. would you trade Collins to Newman if you had the cash, even if you have Smith and Williams as mid prices?

    1. Hold for sure. Mills is touted as All Australian this year and will come good.

It’s R1, don’t expect Newman to hit another 100+ this week, I have no doubt his score will be volatile this season

  5. What I wouldn’t mind seeing is a weekly top of the pops post.Like a Supercoach All -Australian. Running totals for the year.
E.g This weeks in points order

    Def.Salem, Newman, Lloyd, Macmillan,Andrews, Saad
    Mid.Bont,Sloane,Coniglio,Fyfe,Sheed, M Crouch, Rocky,Macrae
    Ruc Westoff Nank
    Fwd.Westoff,McCarthy,Boak,Worpel,
    Cameron, Walters

A couple of things here ,
-makes an easy ready reakoner for people wanting to trade in premo’s during the year to refer to.
    – like the 8 in the AFL ladder, eg can identify consolidation after a certain rounds.
-Will be interesting to see how many of the above appear in the list at round 23.
I think there are at least 9 on the above list that will feature at years end.
