Polling Station Rd9

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 13 2019

Welcome to the Polling Station, where you control then content at SCT…….

Once again, apologies for the lack of polls last week.  I’ll be sure to get more polls up this week, even if it means a few ‘evening polls’.  So, Coaches……..what would you like to see ahead of Rd9?  Best upgrade targets in the midfield?  Best value forwards?  Let us know in the comments below…….

    1. I guess you need to identify why they’re underperforming. If it’s due to a role change , then I’d consider it, if it’s a niggle or just out of form then I’d be confident that they’ll work back to the mean.

          1. Yes….was looking at him as a hopeful breakout or stepping stone. After his r2 120 against bombers he has been awful. Now looks like m7/8 cover…upgrading rookies comes first.
            Oooh for hindsight..just once !!

      1. sometimes you don’t know why
heeney let it slip about his dodgy ankle in an interview
if he didn’t , everyone would still be blaming horse for play’n him fwd
often the why doesn’t matter , it’s the value for money that i’m focused on

    2. PJ,
Just a month ago, Dunkley was an underperforming premo now everyone wants a piece. Just two weeks ago, Coaches were jumping off Oliver. I’d be careful to generalise here……..
Although it’s given me an idea for a new write-up……

        1. imo , gotta watch out for dunks
first he rotated fwd for 3 games , then macrae , now libba , bont might be next , then maybe dunks again
if old mate magnets is rotating fwd x 3 games to keep em fresh for the end of the year , dunks could end up being a double burn for some
personally , i wont be taking the risk on him unless mids injuries hit
          as for oliver ,
i didnt see the game but have monitored multiple sources saying that CD handed him a lot more pts than he actually should have got
& he did only play the suns who are relatively weak on all lines
i recon they have been playing well above their average this year & are probably getting sore & tired
it’s hard to make the assumption that he’s back off that 1 game for mine

  1. I was going to do a double upgrade this week. But, do you think if Hately is named this week he is too good to pass up?

    T/u – Yes

    T/d – No

    1. None of us have ever questioned his SP.

JS is the problem. Don’t know why people are expecting him to be IN this week, Clarkson just cracked GWS’ system- dropping players won’t fix that.

But let’s say he does come in, remember that he wasn’t the immediate replacement for Ward and Kelly subsequently forced him right out. Don’t think he’ll get enough games to warrant bringing him in.

    2. Surely if he gets a call up this week, he gets a run at it. Would be manna from heaven given stocker is only other downgrade option by the looks of things. If nothing else, he’s a means of raising cash if selected.

      1. I agree with you there Wighty. Obviously his js is very shaky. But at this point of the season where we all have loads of cows ready to be cashed in there just aren’t any better options. If named I’ll be taking the punt.

  2. Has Sam Walsh hit the rookie wall & is it time to trade him to an uber premium? Breakeven of 101 now after his last three games of 79, 89 & 70.

    1. I’d be mindful/wary of offloading him just yet. Especially if he’s still on your field (ie M8 or higher).

First, his score is valuable with a high floor and an exceptional ceiling for a rookie.
Second, he may well drop a little this week (and next) but should then bounce back to be the perfect Rd14 trade.
Third, remember those who rued going early on Tim Kelly last year?!?

I know Sam Walsh isn’t a mature-ager but he has a frightening tank for a first year pro and is the best talent I’ve seen in a rookie since I’ve been in Australia (15yrs). I’m holding him until his bye at the least, even if he’s given a rest. If he had the Rd12/13 bye I might be getting twitchy, but he doesn’t. So I’m not!

      1. he will burn out ,
as a 2nd mid to cripps , has had a massive workload without a rest ,
must be feeling it by now ,
cant see him scoring another ton without a rest first ,
imo best case scenario he will go 60’s to 90’s depending on opposition

they wont be winning any flags this year , so if the blues are smart , they will manage walsh & fisher & get games into the 2nd & 3rd tier mids through the year , even if they’re not ready ,
gna need depth in 2 or 3 years
they’ve got good teachers in bolton ( ex clarko/hawks culture ) & cripps
the problem that bolton has is the impatient blues supporters ,
they won’t want walsh to get rested ,
they want wins now & if they don’t get it ,
they will probably take boltons head in lieu

  3. Which rookies are more important to offload first. Parker, Drew, Duursma, Gibbons, Petruccelle etc. I feel this is the time of year where a lot of them have high breaks

    1. Pigged out against the Crows, should do the same against the Suns- you may as well ride it out.

  4. … also, a bye strategy thread could be good. What are people doing to prepare for the byes. Personally, I prefer the approach of ignoring them and hoping they go away.
