  1. 263 – 3 – Cripps

Played Cripps Setters & Walsh. Wish I had Newman but early days.
Will probably take Cripps’ 126, lets hope rest of the weekend goes well

    1. 263 , 3 , Cripps ,

      gna loophole Cripps ,
pretty happy with Walsh & Setterfield’s start ,
hopeing Devon Smith gets named ,
don’t really want to bring in a 7th onfield rook .

  2. Sorry to hijack, but anyone have thoughts on the new rules 666, kick ins before final lock out?

Like everyone, I had Cripps, Setters & Walsh. I also had my first of my two Mid Price Madness players – Lynch. He looked pretty darned good in Q1, but faded. Looks like he will get a lot of goals this year next to Jack. Early days still but looking forward to seeing their avenues to goal evolve.

    1. I have Lynch also. Was pretty happy with what I saw.

Jack seemed to use the extra tall as a license to fly for hangers anytime Lynch was in the same postcode.

  4. Hi .

Same as above had Cripps, Walsh, setterfied, & Dusty.
    Going to loophole Cripps score.

    Q) Has there been any rucks named under 200k. Thanks.

    1. Me too – just got all wrapped up in excitement and decided he’d kick 10 against the Blues. But I traded him in last minute from Toby Greene, so I’ve got cash in the bank and hopefully Greene doesn’t play all 22 and average 110

  5. I currently have Burgess on Def bench, and Duursma in my Mids. I want to switch Duursma to Def but whose best of the rest Mid rookies to bring in? I already have Butters, Constable, Scott & Atkins.

    cheers

      1. Chayce Jones ADL $171.3k

Scored 78 SC pts in JLT2 in a Mid-For role. Listed on field in that spot. He’s been named on-field in their full-strength side, so does this mean its his spot to lose (JS)?

  6. 506 / 5 / Grundy into Oliver

Newman, Cripps, Dusty, Setterfield, Walsh (plus Gibbons on the pine)

SUPER stoked about Newman’s score. Currently trying to avoid tinkering with a line up I’m happy with.

  7. With Motts’ love of the Blues, I just realised that he’s likely the current SC leader as he’s already had 15 players on the field.

  8. 632/5/Cripps (taking his score)

    Pretty happy with Newman, obviously.
Also had Setterling, Walsh, Dusty and Cripps.

Went about as well as I’d hoped, better than expected.

  9. Like blue chips stocks on the stock exchange, so is Gawn and Grundy.

Blue chip and very expensive. So, my question is would you buy these 2 if they were ASX listed stocks knowing that they have a very expensive price, there ceiling room is limited and they will (not if) fall in price, not by a lot but I think they could drop to the 550-600k price range. This would represent a drop of about 20%. Just like in the stock market, this would represent a great buying opportunity.

So I am going on the theory that I could select, say a Goldstein and Jacobs for nearly 400k less than Grundy and Gawn. Whilst their SC output would be less (they are priced to ave 85-95), I believe they are fair value and will not drop much going forward. Of the two, I think Goldstein is worth keeping and he should do well but If Jacobs turns out to be a failure, then by all means upgrade to either Gawn or Grundy and treat it as a failed experiment.

By doing this, and I understand it is risky, it has enabled me to have spare coin to pick up 13 premos on other lines. For example:

Def Laird Whitfield, Williams and Smith plus the usual rookies (I think Smith could be a premo and a keeper if he scores well)
Mids Cripps Oliver, Martin, Gyfe M Crouch and Walsh + rookies
Fwd Dangerfield Heeney dunkley and T Kelly + rookies

This makes 13 premos plus Goldstein and Jacobs = 15 premos

So what do you think of this fellas, a good move? Risky but could pay off and would require less trades to upgrade other lines to premos

Let me know what you think

  10. Very interesting Murray.

The only way it will work ( in my book) is if both Grundy and Gawn average -110 over the first 5/6 weeks. (Goldie would need to average around the same)

If “say “Grundy averages 130 and Gawn only 110.
Gawn will drop in price and maybe gettable.

But you still won’t have Grundy who’s killing it.

I really think you need at least one of Gawn or Grundy.
If one goes south you can at least swap them over.

The chances of them both dropping to sub 110, is too remote in my book.

I will be starting the Blue Chip stock.
I’m backing them in to provide the top dividends, and even if the drop a bit over the season. They will be the best performing for the whole year.

Remember SC is all about points.
The team with the greatest $ value is never the final winner 🙂

    4

    1
    1. That final point is spot on FT. You get what you pay for!
If you wait until the byes, you’ve missed their points for over half the season!! And ‘wasted’ trades!

      1

      1
      1. I hope that you didn’t get Grundy. His break even will be 180 next week, up against a better and stronger ruck than Stanley and, Grundy coming off a six day break I don’t like his chances of getting to 120. He might even get the week off but if he does play he could easily have a 200+ breakeven coming into the first week of price changes.

        3

        6
        1. The one thing I’ve learned in all my years of SuperCoach, it’s always harder too pick up a Uber premo with a reduced price later in the year because:
          A. It’s an assumption you make at the start of the that they will drop significantly.( not accounting for injury).

B.the curveball of SuperCoach mean all the spare cash you have saved for a so called fallen premo gets spend prior to the prefect window of opportunity to get premo, due to other factors like lots of injured players and dud mid pricers and rookies, that eat into your capital

          C. And at least with having a fair smattering of Uber’s you can at least trade down to another player on the rise, if your Uber is underperforming.

          Just my theory anyway

          5

  11. 770 / 7 / Cripps (took his 126 as VC)
Cripps, Martin, T Kelly, Danger, Setterfield, Walsh, Clark

I’ve gone with a very risky backline which could make or break my season

    2

  12. 640/6/Crippa

Taking the 126 on offer, just don’t see this round having a mega score?
Only premos played are Cripps and Danger and certainly can’t complain about Chook.

  13. Oh well doesn’t look like I’ll be getting high score this round had the C on Gawn, and Oliver at M2 plus the common Walsh/setterfield configuration
985 from 10 with captain played, I’m staring down the barrell of my worst start to a supercoach season in 10 years. I might not break the 2,000pts mark!

      1. Feel like the first round is the hardest to project , especially when hardly anyone is posting their progress scores

  14. A few structural/on field rookies mistakes and a rubbish captains choice (Gawn) see me at 1808 from 18 with only Collins, ridley, greene and williams to play. I’ll struggle to make 2100. bugga Next week will be much better. Goodbye Oliver and Libba hello Rory Sloane and Worpel

    1. After that performance Sloane will probably cop a tag next week, i’d hold Oliver, or if your defiantly going to do it, i’d suggest M Crouch instead who dosn’t get tagged.

  15. 1865/20/Gawn

    Happy with rookies fielded.
    600k plus players killing me

Just happy to be back into it!! Goodluck coaches

  16. Woweee! What a crazy start to the SuperCoach season..

    1847/ Cripps / 19

Goldy, Williams and Collins to play.

    Hoping to get 2050+

(Sounds so shit but I’m guessing it’s the same for most of us)

  17. 1646/16/Cripps

Definitely nothing huge yet – Matt Crouch top scorer on 138 and only 6 x tons
To come: Collins, Billings, Ridley, Williams, Fyfe & Goldi

  18. 1699/18/Cripps
Have Whitfield, Williams, Fyfe and Bailey Scott to all play out for me. Disappointed with my rucks, Oliver and then Heeney and Dunkley. Not expected as much but both had fast starts then disappeared.

Neale had 80 at half but then copped a tag but still got another 40 odd out of him so not too bad. Happy with the rookies I have had on the field compared to the bench. Just need about a 60 from Scott to keep that trend going

  19. 1875 / 19 / Cripps

Williams, Coniglio (co-kneel-e-o), and Bailey Scott to go. Made the late call to bring in Libba and Dunkley for Mundy and Cousins, I’m a slow learner! Looks like 2100 will be about par this week.

  20. 1712/18/Cripps
Drew is my 4th highest scorer
Steele, Whitfield, Williams and Ridley to play!

Oops. Get the feeling I may have over-analysed 😉

    1. Hi All Saints

Happy you kept faith with Steele.

Amazing how you respond to each thread posted here.

I tend to also analyse and interesting my wife’s team above Maryann has got off to a flyer by just going on gut.

In a few of your leagues including Sct 1

  21. 15/1331
Lowest score of 67 by Z Butters and highest score of 155 by R Sloane.
    Only 5/15 scoring more than 85 (R Sloane, R Laird, W Drew, P Dangerfield, L Neale) with only 2 players over 103 (L Neale, R Sloane)

    Still to play: S Collins, Z Williams, L Whitfield, T Greene, Z Merrett, N Fyfe (C), T Goldstein

    Hopefully can manage 2050-2100+.

  22. Going to be an ordinary start thanks to captain Gawn. Anyone else worried about Oliver after double shoulder surgery over the break? The stat that is damning is his tackle count especially comparing it to 2018. Round 1 last 10 tackles, round 2 8 tackles, round 3 6 tackles and round 4 a whopping 11 tackles.
Round 1 2019 he has 3, yes only 3 tackles. That’s significant and a massive part of his game. We know it is easy to be reactive after one round and an analysis of another round needs careful scrutiny but I think giving his high ceiling that we need to closely monitor round two. Anyone thinking the same? Anyone considering a sidestep if the tackle count is down next week?

    1. Was always a concern that he could start off slow due to the injury interrupted preseason. He was a last minute in for me replacing J Kelly and annoyed I didn’t start P Cripps, H Andrews, D Mundy instead of C Oliver, L Whitfield and J Darling.

Unless he suffers a long term injury I wouldn’t bother trading him as he still should be around or exceeding the 110 mark.

    2. Think Oliver is fairly safe. While I had Kelly all pre-season (GWS got me again), Oliver only came into my side once Kelly wasn’t named but I’m confident he’ll be fine. Last year he showed he could have the occasional stinker (75 in round 3 & 59 in round 15) but then followed those up with scores of 128 & 154.

      8

      1. Good point: if I recall correctly, Oliver nearly always had a big score immediately after he had a bad one last year. Give him one more week and see.

  23. 1950/20/Gawn

Really poor choice of Vc/C this week I forgot to change Gawn to McRae. I didn’t realise Ryder was playing thought he would be out with the cheekbone injury, rookie mistake

I think that a score around 2100 is not terrible this week with popular players not scoring as hoped (Grundy, Oliver, Gawn ext)

  24. My team: 1488 (Cripps vc) with Goldy, Cogs, Williams, Collins, Burgess, Ridley and Mundy to play.

Dad’s team: 1812 (Cripps vc) with Billings, Cogs, Goldy, Lobb and Ridley all to play.

He’s on a blinder. Knew I should have taken Dom Sheed. Kid’s a star.

Disappointments so far: Danger, Gawn, Oliver, Heeney, Libratore, Crouch, Smith, Setterfield, Walsh… hell just about all of them.

Only Macrae, Lloyd, Cripps and Drew stand out so far.

  25. 1750/19/Gawn
    Steele, Collins, Williams to play

I’m hoping to break 2000. Blargh.

Rather a lot of uninspiring scores. Danger, Oliver, Grundy, Gawn. Also a lot of slightly below expected scores, just 1-ish off, but a lot of those adds up. They guys who are really hurting are all premiums though, and so nothing to do but wait for them to come good. No way I use a trade to get rid of an uninjured premium.

Balta on the bench, and not going to do anything with him. Not worth a trade to move him to anyone I do not have, and I expect long term he will end up making his money.

  26. 1750, 18/22, Danger.
Collins, Williams, Greene, Whitfield to play. Top scorers Sheed 144, MCrouch 138.

Swapped Newman for BSmith about 15mins before the opening bounce. *facepalm*

  27. 1934/19-macrae.
Zerrett, Ridley, Baily Scott to come.
I regret selecting Heeney over Kelly. But his popularity swayed me since I already had enough uniques.

  28. 1810/18- Captain Sloane of the goodship Titanic, last sited near the hawthorn iceberg.

whitfield, williams, steele and collins to come.

running 3 rookies on the field in the forward line so had balta on the field for an 18. Happy with my start though.

Thinking balta’s job security has gone up since rance’s knee 🙁

  29. 1646/17/Gawn

Would be pushing for 2200 if it wasn’t for the captaincy decision… Steele, Collins, Williams, Fyfe and Mundy to come.

  30. 1967/20 – Cripps

  31. 1563 Collins, Coniglio, Ridley, Williams, Fyfe, Mundy.
    Cripps (vc)
    Pros. Sheed, Mouch, Cripps(capt)
Sob story. Last minute Libber @#$&* (it also put both Drew and Constable on Mids bench @#$&*)
Pending, Last minute, Mills->Williams (yeah, yeah, I know) and Scrimshaw->Collins.
    Hoping to get 2000-2100.

  32. Not a progress score, but with all the speculation about changes to the scoring system, I thought people might be interested in the following email exchange between me and SuperCoach HQ:

    Me:

    Hi,

I was just wondering if there have been any changes to the scoring system this year? The distribution of points within teams looks quite different to previous years.

    Them:

    Hi,

    Thank you for your email.

There haven’t been any changes to the SuperCoach scoring system this year, so it should be the same as last year.

    Kind regards,

    SuperCoach AFL Support

  33. 2139/22 Sloane Captain
    All done.
Balta and Collins to take a seat on the pine next week.

Petruccelle and Duursma can have a run.

  34. 2092/22/ Grundy into Oliver. all Done.
Yuk. Like father Dougal said, wouldnt rage trade any premium unless injured. R1 2019, We are learning that the 666 rule is not allowing rucks to monster score. No panic on Grundy/Gawn. Let’s just fasten our belts while they drop 100-120k….. they could still finish 1 and 2…wishfull thinking :0)

    0

    1. Wonder if there are going to be people who dump Grundy for Goldy for a quick buck? With the 666 rule does that mean rucks will not be around the ground as much and other players will share the rucks in the forward line and backline? Interested in other people’s thoughts here.

  35. Final score 1977, worst first round for a while, gawn , grundy , oliver dissapointing,
Collins??? He wont last long ,. Anyway only first round, no need to panic .with all due respect to Collins the hype was great intercept mark but that wasn’t in afl.my bad.

  36. 2073/22/ Gawn

Took the risk on Rocky but will be sweating all season. Glad i didn’t go with Collins or Burgess and on the whole the rookies performed well. Scott and Parker looked great. Too many 70’s across the board. Thought Libba played well but wasn’t rewarded and hoping for more in future weeks. Decided to go Cousins instead of Walsh to be different to the rest of the pack. Time will tell whether that’s a good decision. Hate to think how many times I looked at Fanfooty points over the weekend.
