Racing SC Rd5 – Schwarzwalder’s Stable

Written by Schwarzwalder on October 25 2019

G’Day Coaches!

Managed to find some spare time ahead of Rd5 so that I can bring you my amatuer ramblings for another weekend 😉

Round Five takes in Moonee Valley on the Friday night (Manikato Stakes meeting) & Saturday arvo (Cox Plate card).  NO SYDNEY RACES THIS WEEK (in SuperCoach)!!

Since there’s only the one Group race on Friday night (Manikato Stakes – Gr.1), most of the tips are for Saturday afternoon.  Plenty of open races and there are bound to be a few different strategies on approaching Rd5, but I’ve settled on the following:

Bivouac – Has beaten Yes Yes Yes at his last two starts w ho took out The Everest in dominant fashion last week.  Justifiably short priced favorite for this race and will be a popular choice of Captain.

Lys Gracieux – The Spring Carnival has barely begun and the International horses have already taken out the Caulfield Stakes, Caulfield Cup and to a lesser extent, The Geelong Cup (not to mention the last three Melbourne Cups).  Simply put……..their middle distance gallopers and stayers are better than ours.  Now with Winx out of the picture, Lys Gracieux looks set to swoop on the Cox Plate and seems good value at $400k.  After Lys Gracieux, it looks to be a bit of a raffle which is why I’ve gone with………..

Loving Gaby – Should settle down alongside Bivouac in the Manikato Stakes (drawn barriers 1 & 2).  If she gets a bit of cover early, then I expect to see her running on for 2nd…..

Battenburg – Will be in most stables this week.  Ran a cracking 3rd in the Spring Champion Stakes (Gr1) to Shadow Hero (Derby favorite) & Castelvecchio (Cox Plate runner).  Will start a short price with Bookies but is great value in Racing SuperCoach at $75k in a Group Two event.

Soul Patch – Have decided to make a play for the top two in the Group Two Vase.  Soul Patch got too far out of its ground in the Caulfield Guineas and ran some of the best late sectionals behind Super Seth.  Step up to 2000m should suit and will be in the finish with a decent run in transit.

Good luck, Coaches!

    1. That score looks pretty good this week Schwarz. well played Sir.
Had 205 with one scratching so can’t be too disappointed. More pleased to have gained an extra $100k in stable value with four G1 and four G2 races this week, will likely need every cent.
