Rare Gems – Round 14

Written by The Salamander on June 17 2021

LEGEND: Player Name (Other Position) (Club, Price, Average, Ownership)

DEFENDERS

Daniel Rich (BRL, $527,800, 105, 5.1%)

No longer the burn-man he was once was, coaches still seem to avoid the long-kicking Lion, despite him being consistently good for a couple of years now. One to consider if you’re looking for something a little different (but still good) in your backline.

Do you trust him yet?

MIDFIELDERS

Ollie Wines (PTA, $570,900, 108, 3.8%)

Known for being somewhat up and down throughout his career, it remains to be seen whether or not the former Port captain can keep it up, but at 26 years and 8 months old, Wines should be right in his physical prime, so it should come as no surprise to see him post his highest-ever average this season.

RUCKS

Todd Goldstein (NTH, $497,200, 97, 3.8%)

With an affordable price tag and a friendly draw in terms of direct matchups for the back-half of the year, Goldstein could be the player you’re looking for if you’re in the market for a ruckman and can’t afford Gawn or Grundy.

FORWARDS

Charlie Dixon (PTA, $485,900, 89, 2.5%)

A season average of 89 isn’t going to get too many people excited, but four 100+ scores out of his last five might. The standard disclaimer about key forwards being up and down obviously applies here, but apart from matches against Melbourne (Round 17) and the Bulldogs (Round 23), the Power has a reasonably friendly draw in the back half of the year, which should, in theory, mean points for key forwards like him.

    1. Expected breakout, didnt set world on fire pre season or early. Hitting straps on the wing with 3 x big scores. With McGrath out will keep position, and some CBAs

Getting on him, woulda gone rnd 12 but 13 bye wasnt ideal

  1. Brought in Tarryn Thomas last week as a healthy Super POD.

Good CBA load, great attacking play, can see him squeezing into the top 10.
(Think he got scored harshly over the weekend with 19 possies & 2 goals)
