      1. In a perfect world, I’d be able to find enough cash to turn bundy into someone like savage, swinging sicily forward. But havent been able to find a way to do that without compromising other spots.

Other thoughts have been bundy down to stephenson. Or garlett forward and bringing in brayshaw. Just worried that 4 freo mids may be too much (though neale for crouch is also on the cards)

        1. Given that 2 of the Freo mids would be cash cows I don’t think it matters too much. Both be culled before their bye I’d think.

  2. Laird, Ryan, Coffield, Naughton, Murray, Doedee, Finlayson, Mihocek.

Danger, Martin, Kelly, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Whitfield, Brayshaw, Banfield, Kelly, Holman.

    Ryder, Gawn, Cameron.

Billings, McLean, Petracca, Rayner, Keefe, Fritsch, Ryan, Garlett.

    80k remaining.

I’m intending on going with a 2-7-2-3 structure this year. This is mostly due to lack of confidence in forward and defence premiums, but also due to the quality and value of mid premiums, which I’ve stacked (I’m still trying to find a way to fit in Parker).

I know I’m putting myself at risk with so many defender rookies in terms of upgrading them all, but if it works out i should be able to pick out the good players as they emerge.

The only selections I’m not completely confident in is Luke Ryan and Cam Rayner. I’m debating switching Ryan with Mills or Loyd and Rayner with a cheaper rook. Rayners in there currently because of JS.

Edit: Danger will become Parker if he doesn’t get up.

    1. Different approach to most I’ve seen, if the rookies get up could work out. Risky but you need to take some risk to seperate from the pack.

    2. No Dangerfield version:

Laird, Mills, Coffield, Naughton, Murray, Doedee, Finlayson, Mihocek.

Mitchell, Martin, Kelly, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Whitfield, Brayshaw, Banfield, Kelly, Holman.

      Ryder, Gawn, Cameron.

Billings, McLean, Petracca, Dunkley, Keefe, Fritsch, Ryan, Garlett.

      103.5k remaining.

Decided to swap Ryan for Mills on account of having Neale and Fyfe already and the liklihood of bringing in Mundy during the season.

Rayner gets upgraded to Dunkly, who is another roll of the dice.

    1. Might want to look at running at least one more premo forward. Rayner down to Garlett or dropping a premo mid would get you there.

      1. Aiming to breaking top 1000 this year, is this the team????

        Def: HIBBERD, SAVAGE, LAIRD

    2. Very good I reckon Chelsea. Would upgrade Fogarty to a potential breakout FWD with your spare cash for now.
If it looks like Danger will be back for RD2, revert to above and get him in NOW and stick him on the bench for a week.
Waterman could be a great POD with plenty upside.
      Good luck

    3. Great team , keep the money for Danger and keep your eyes out for a gun forward (Buddy, Menegola, Greene) Just give it few weeks, rookies are always the way to go bcoz they will make you the money to upgrade your players. That is Supercoach secret

    1. Doesn’t look like Mirra, Worpel or Ahern will play early.

Garlett, Finlayson, Keeffe and Giles Langdon are more likely.

$173, 300k in the bank, had P. Dangerfield but opted to move him on given he is still in some doubt for Round 1 and will most likely lose value in the early rounds given his expensive price tag.

    Thoughts??

    1. That is just too much money sitting in the bank, try and spend some of it as anything over 100k I feel is too much

      2

      1
        1. Titch down to Zorko/Neale type, put Sicily in the forward line for Christensen should leave you enough cash for Lloyd/Savage type.

          2

          4
        2. Not totally necessary to spend it all Dylan, I was overall leader a couple of years ago after 2 rounds and had over $400000 in the kitty. As long as you are happy with your squad the total cost is secondary. I panicked trying to keep my lead and force spent my kitty by round 4 when in hindsight i should of held firm.

      1. It’s one of the few things I am confident about this season. I just don’t know where the movement came from that decided this wasn’t the case (he says it, coach says it, teammates say it). Has turned into a POD over the last few weeks, and for a potential top 6 player (all the stats are hinting at this) an excellent pickup for mine

        4

  10. I posted this in the 3rd RMT thread yesterday, but I doubt many people saw it, so I’ll repost it here and hope it gets a bit more feedback 🙂

    DEF: R. Laird, M. Hibberd, S. Savage, N. Coffield, A. Naughton, S. Murray (T. Doedee, J. Finlayson)

    MID: P. Dangerfield, T. Mitchell, D. Zorko, N. Fyfe, P. Cripps, A. Brayshaw, W. Brodie, B. Banfield (T. Kelly, D. Barry, N. Holman)

    FWD: M. Walters, T. McLean, D. Smith, C. Petracca, J. Sicily, D. Fogarty (B. Fritsch, L. Ryan)

    23k in the bank.

Some justification on a few picks:

    – First, the structure. I know 3 – 5 – 2 – 5 is a bit obscure, but I’ve set it up this way for optimal cash generation. The forward rookies are frankly absolute rubbish, which is why I’ve loaded all of my potential break-out players in the forward line and left room in the mids and defense for some rookies who will actually earn me some cash.

    – Speaking of the forward line, I feel confident every single break-out player will average at least 90, which is the lowest average I’d be happy with them making, and a high enough average to make them top 10-15 forwards. Hopefully, most of them will push their average to the high 90’s, possibly even past the 100 mark (I’m putting my bets on Walters and Sicily.)

    – I know Sandi is a light breeze away from being out for 6 rounds, but when he’s on the park, he’s still up there as one of the best scoring ruckman in the game. The plan is praying he lasts until Ryders’ bye, and then swapping him for good ol’ Paddy.

    – I know Savage will probably burn the hell out of me, but there’s not any players in that price range that I have any more faith in. Any suggestions in the 420-480k range let me know!

    – If Danger is said to be out for more than 2 rounds, he’s gone. I’ll use the funds to upgrade Cripps to either Kelly or Martin, and then Savage to a 500k+ defence premo.

Other than that, I’d love to hear some feedback! Greatly appreciated

    9

    1
    1. Don’t upgrade Cripps, he’s just a premo at reduced price – this is NOT a trap! Savage isn’t a terrible selection, just too expensive for me (could get Lloyd at the same price or Sicily for 70k cheaper). Brodie is a good midfield choice I just don’t have the cash for him. I would use extra money from Danger to sure up the FWD’s a bit, too risky for mine – bring in a bona fide premium al la Heeney/Billings etc.

  13. Already changed my team multiple times this morning but here goes;

DEF) Laird, Hibberd, Savage, Coffield, Naughton, Doedee (Murray, Finlayson)

MID) Danger, Mitchell, Kelly, Fyfe, Libba, Brayshaw, Brodie, Banfield (Kelly, Barry, Holman)

    RUCK) Ryder, Gawn (Olango)

FWD) Heeney, Gray, Walters, Smith, Rayner, Keeffe (Fritsch, Ryan)

111.8k left in the bank which will go maybe changing Savage, playing with the mids a bit maybe.
Also given Nic Nat went through West Coasts full intense training yesterday, I’m leaning towards him which will free up some more cash and might turn Rayner into a breakout forward.

    2
    1. Robbie Gray is a BIG risk. He is most likely going to spend more time forward this year, added on top of the fact that he’s not lining up for round 1. Good news is that he’s been in the elite category before, and he has a massive scoring ceiling.

      4

      0
      1. I’m happy to start the likes of Danger and Gray as I am more focused on league wins than overall ranking and think that Robbie could be a very nice POD

        2

  14. My confidence in my team hasn’t changed, and most likely will not change until round 1 (barring injury). It’s the same team from the last rate my team.

Def: Laird, Hibberd, Simpson, Naughton, Doedee, Murray (Finlayson, Murphy)

Mid: Dusty, Titch, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Banfield (Kelly, Barry, Holman)

    Ruc: Martin, Gawn (Cameron)

Fwd: Heeney, Billings, Smith, Christensen, Fogarty, Fritsch (Keefe, Ryan)

As I mentioned in the past rate my team , the rookies will change, depending on round 1 lineups. I have saved $130.8 k, because in previous years I’ve had to work myself out of a hole with players like Brett Eddy and Timothy Smith having solid games but getting dropped giving me constant zeros at their basement price. This will give me the chance to upgrade to better rookies, and possibly Dangerfield when he returns, or when his price drops.

    Please give some feedback

    2
    1. I like this team.

But Christenson and Fogarty scare me a little.

Waterman and Venables are likely to line up R1 for WC.

How long they last who knows. Waterman is probably my pick to keep his spot.

Best of luck what ever you do.

All pre season I’ve had one less rookie down back and Christensen up fwd but I’m not sold on him and I believe the rookies are more effective down back this year. Tossing up between Martin and Kelly . Also have 85k in the bank but not sure where to use it, could upgrade coniglio but not sure I want to miss out on the value he provides.
    Please provide some feedback

    1. If you think Coniglio goes 105+ then keep him because as you say, provides the value and you can spend elsewhere. If he goes ~100 he won’t rise enough to be the worthwhile trade and won’t be a keeper either. Rest looks solid until team announcements.

  20. Just a few points about my selection strategy and prerequisites:
    i. I have read EVERY single piece of golden nuggety information on the SCT site
ii. I have analysed the entire careers, last season, last eight games and JLT series of the twenty players in each position that I consider premium and/or potential premium
iii. No player who has not had a full pre-season will be considered for first-up selection
iv. INs and OUTs and likely/consequent changes in team structures have been considered for ALL current premium-priced players
    v. Pick those rookies that have JS from the start, plus consider those selected for RD1 for last minute changes
vi. Build in a strategy for Danger, and finally
vii. Start from what I perceive to be the likely 22 I will want come the last few rounds and work back from there.

Based on multiple spreadsheet analyses, talking to people in the know at certain clubs (RIC, MEL and CAR) and gut feeling, in no particular order, my considerations for end of season premiums are:
    DEF:
    Definites: Laird, Savage
Likelies: Hibberd, McGovern, Mills, Marchbank, Stewart, L Ryan
Considered: Johannisen, Lloyd, Rampe, Vlastuin, M Williams (NTH)
Smokies: Jayden Short (RIC), Sicily, Weitering, Hunt (MEL)

    MID:
Definites: Danger, Dusty, Mitchell, Oliver, Kelly
Likelies: Cripps, Fyfe, M Crouch, Parker, Neale
Considered: A Hall, Zorko, Sloane, Zerrett, Ross
    Smokies: B Graham, Liberatore, Steven

    RUC:
    Definites: Gawn, Ryder
    Likelies: Goldstein, Nankervis, Jacobs, Martin
Considered: Kreuzer (already carrying as minor injury … tick-tock!)

    FWD:
Definites: Franklin, Heeney (later – due to limited pre-season)
Likelies: Lambert, McLean, Billings, Greene, Wingard, Gray
Considered: D Smith, Walters, Mundy, Menegola
    Smokies: Caddy, C Curnow

My team selection is based on a combination of definites/likelies and those that I see offering the greatest potential upside to get me there. My only concern at this stage is RD14 bye but I have built a number flexible plans that will allow me to address this as the season unfolds.

If Danger looks like he will miss RD1 but certain for RD2, I will lose Parker and Marchbank and bring in Duncan and Finalyson for RD1 and waste 1 trade to replace Duncan with Danger (dependent on early scoring somewhere between RDs 2-6).

    TEAM
DEF: Laird, Savage, Marchbank, Stewart, Naughton, Murray (Doedee, Murphy)
MID: Martin, Mitchell, Fyfe, Parker, Cripps, Graham, Brayshaw (FRE), Banfield (Kelly, Barry, Holman)
    RUC: Gawn, Sandilands (Olango)
FWD: Franklin, Lambert, McLean, D Smith, Caddy, Fritsch (Ryan, Giles-Langdon)

    – may bring in Garlett DPP in MID and Waterman depending on teamlists.

Would love feedback/thoughts. Yes, this is high risk but with considerable risk management in place 😉 (ie even if thos mid-pricers all perform at 10 under my predicted averages (I should still make enough money to make the necessary trades, albeit at a slower pace.

Cheers and good luck to all @SCT

    1. loved the explanation, what a better way to spend a Saturday arvo, took 3 beers to read it all.. cheers

      1. Glad you enjoyed it (the beer I mean)
One thing I forgot to mention is price rise analysis.
Last year, of the top 20 price risers (in pure $$$s), eight started priced at $250k+ and six of those at $280k+, the remainder were rookies. This is not unusual.
Assuming you start with and/or pick up 10+ of the rookies, it is worth giving as much time (if not more as it is harder to predict) to considering the low/mid-priced breakouts as the same cash can be generated for your premium trades.
        Just my thoughts
And now it’s beer o’clock for me too.
        Good luck

        2

        1
        1. I just re-checked that. Should read $220k and $250k respectively. The six years prior cannot be compared realistically because of the ESS shambles and prior to that the launches and preferences of two new teams (GWS and GCS). So, one can assume that last year will increasingly become the norm, unless we have outstanding quality within the draft itself and mature-age recruiting (bigger every year).
I think this is a reason why we have so many similar looking structures and teams this year. Yet another reason in my mind to carefully consider where the mid-price value will come from.

          2

          1
          1. Just one more thing and I’ll shut up.
I meant to ask Father Dougal about this and I think I will.
One of the other analyses I did was on overall team-scoring (SC points – total) and whether he believes (or anyone else for that matter) it could be a factor to consider?!
I’ve noticed that MEL FRE SYD and RIC tend to ave. 1800+ pre game and WCE BRL NTH and ESS 1500 or less.
To be exact is an ave. 14.30pts per player, per game.
            Worth considering or not?!

            1. I like questions. May not have answers, or have to think on them, but questions are brilliant.

Yes, although how is a good question. I am putting SC scores into the Strength of Schedule post this season, which is making it take even longer than usual but will hopefully be worth it.

I have not yet correlated team SC scores to other things.

My hypothesis is that players on good teams have the opportunity to score more, because they will see more of the ball. Or really, teams with high possession will lead to higher scores. But does that apply to defenders as much as forwards?

There are so many factors that go into how a player does that I sort of don’t think much about the variables that have not changed. Like Howe is on the same team as before, and so how his being on the Pies instead of another team doesn’t matter since we know what he does for the Pies. The Saints are kinda dodgy, will that hurt their players we hope will break out, or will those players breaking out make the Saints less dodgy?

Teams who rookies historically do well is a factor to me, even if just a tiebreaker. Although the Blues have good defenders and mids and not so good forwards. I think I am nattering on and just proving my points about there being a lot of variables.

Love people using numbers and logic when making decisions. Have to say the “eye test” matters though, if used carefully.

    $12K

I may have to downgrade Parker to Cogs if I need to free up cash for rookie reshuffle.

I’ve tried to avoid too many midpriced “Potential” breakouts.

D Smith is an Injury risk but if he stays fit he could be a top 6 forward this year. Last year I didn’t pick T Adams due to his Injury history. That didn’t work out too well. This year (like most) he is a lock at that price.

McGrath is a future champ. We will all have him as a starting Mid in 2021. I’m backing him to keep improving this year with more time up the ground. If he can ave 85/90 I will be happy to keep him at D6.
I think he will be more consistent than Sicily or Marchbank.

In a season looking thin for cash cows, starting 15 keepers for the year seems like a good idea.

I’d like Dusty but think I can get him under $600k before the byes.

With No Danger I decided to spend the cash on Buddy. I think he will start on fire this year. The Swans sure don’t want to start 0/6 again. I think he will be the number 1 forward this year. Yes he may be cheaper later but I don’t want to miss out on his early season points. He is also a great V/C loophole option.

Let me know what you think folks.

    Cheers.

    1. Looks good Freo,

Mid is amazing. I like your Franklin pick, should work in your favour. I just feel as though 2 onfield forward rookies could hurt you even though cash generation is important. Anyway best of luck.

      1. Thank you , Obrigado.

2 forward rookies is a risk. How else do we get to Full Premium?

So I start with 15 keepers and 15 rookies.

        That means 7 upgrades.

14 trades 1 up 1 down. Good luck!

How you select and cull your cows is the key to this game in my book. Of course Fallen Premos and value for money are also important.Either way you need to cash in at least 9 ripe cows to get to round 20 in good shape and even close to full premium.

I always put a few trades away for R2 adjustments.( before price rise/ leagues) I’m hoping a few forward rookies pop up/ cement a spot before then.

Even if I get shit scores for my F5 F6 I’m hoping my solid mid field and Buddy will make up for it.

        1. Yeah I think it’s one of the tougher years, especially with little preseason games.

I agree with your 15 keepers 15 rookies it’s just that I don’t think players like waterman/Fritsch will score above 50 let alone play every week. If they are named I could also go to a similar setup however I’ve decided to spread the money over 5 forwards that could go 90+ for the time being!

          3

          0
          1. I hear you .

I just dont’t trust Sicily , Petracca etc to all improve by 20 points per game to get them to 90+premo status.

We all went Roughy last year expecting him to score 90+
for the year (he had done it before) He got there in the end but no one owned him R23 when he scored 140.

If Sicily averages 85 till R10. He will be only be 50K more expensive than now. A rookie in his place only needs to ave 65 for 5 or 6 games to make you $150k.

I’m willing to back my rookies( and trade them up if needed to Brodie./ Rayner )to get the best cash cows and build my team over the whole season.

            R1 is only the start.

How you trade/ hold players is the great mystery that makes or breaks your season. Thats what keeps me coming back for more.

            All the best in 2018.

  28. Hey guys been looking at alot of teams and I can’t justify having so many forward rookies like I’m seeing a few teams with. So I’ve gone for an alternate route. Not sure it will pay off.

Basically my midfield has 3 pods in it that I’m hoping can perform well and my forward line is stacked with mid pricers tipped to make cash

Def: laird, hibberd, McGovern, naughton, coffield, Finlayson, Murray, doedee

Midfield: Duncan, neale, fyfe, Murphy, coniglio, libba, Brayshaw, Kelly, banfield, barry, holman

    Rucks: gawn, Zac Smith, olango

Forwards: billings, McLean, Smith, petracca, bell, christiansen, Ryan, frietch

Any comments will be appreciated. Trying to go a little left field in my premium choices through the midfield. The idea of starting without a single top 10 player scares me but If it works out i have alot of upgrades there

    4

    2
    1. I like it Hayden, just feel as though need at least one of Titch/ Martin. Don’t think Duncan will be top 6 this year but I understand you want a POD. Not confident about Libba and Cogs in the same team but could work if they both average 100+ (personally only think Cogs will). Forward line is solid. Best of luck

      1. Have to agree with Obrigado’s points, but love the approach. Neale is POD enough to my mind. Well-balanced risk in your MIDs against the security of Mundy in the FWD line.
        Good luck with it 😉

  29. Seeing as though the forward line seems hard to pick I’ve got for 5 players that could average 90+ no doubt whilst keeping a pretty balanced team. I’m hoping danger comes back in otherwise it’ll look something like this..

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Lloyd, Naughton, Murray, Doedee (M. O’connor, J. Finlayson)

MID: Mitchell, Fyfe, Bont, Parker, Cripps, Conglio, A. Brayshaw, B. Banfield (T. Kelly, D. Barry, N. Holman)

    RUCK: Gawn, Jacobs (Cameron)

FWD: Lambert, McLean, D. Smith, Petracca, Sicily, L. Keeffe (B. Fritsch, L. Ryan)

      1. Cheers mav,

Yeah the keeffe swing will happen if named round 1, rookies are still up in the air.

The danger situation would be when he returns, trade out 2 underperforming players, particularly one of those from the forward line to a player on the rise whoever it may be (the likes of Dunkley, Bell, Christiansen or even a rookie I’ve missed) and then upgrade Coniglio/Parker to danger. Anything can happen in terms of injuries/suspensions. Let’s see what happens.

  30. Looks great. Sicily is my only qualm (too many 50something games and suspension risk). Consider Caddy or ANO??
Just keep an eye on rookie selections come team drops. O’Connor may not start but if he does, look out 😉

    1. Yeah I think the Sicily pick will either make or break teams this year. I think he’s slightly underpriced, and should be able to back up his scores from the back half of last season. If he doesn’t, I’ll just use him as my stepping stone for Danger.

Deep in the forward line looks great but means exposed slightly in the mids but if cognilio & libba average 95+ before the byes I’m laughing.

    1. Hey Mav,

I like it, I just think you need to pick one of Savage/ Mills and upgrade one of them to a Hibberd type.

Libba is a tough one. I just find him to hit and miss. If you believe he will be a worthy pick keep him, but I’d say maybe downgrade Brodie to a lower priced rookie like Barry if named and upgrade libba to a Cripps if that’s even possible.

      Like the forward line 😉

      1. Obrigado,

I have changed mills to marchbank to free some cash and I liked the role he played through JLT he looked to have a licence to run off HB and looked solid would like hibberd like ya suggest but very hard to get there without downgrading Sicily . How do you feel about christenson as f5 instead of Sicily? It would free up $140k but I just don’t know if I trust his scoring. Where Sicily I hope Scores me 90+ most weeks… bevo in the press said libba come back from the offseason early an wanted to redeem himself and that showed he looked possessed through JLT I think he may be worth a go.. I’d be happy with 90+ up to the byes

    1. The majority think Fogarty will only play a couple before Skip is back meaning no cash generation until he gets a second bite, if this holds true. He does look very good tho.
Personally I’d probably try and adjust somewhere else so you only have one forward rookie on the park.
eg Sandilands in for Ryder and upgrade with the cash. Can always trade Ryder back in after his early bye and if Sandi doesn’t make it that far, his back-up Darcy should be a cheap straight swap to get you over the line.
We’re all gonna have to use up some trades for unforeseen injuries.
Just some thoughts. Your DEF, MID and RUC look great
      Good luck with it

        1. Not sure mate. WCE fwd rookies may offer greater JS (job security),. eg Waterman and Venables (you already have Ryan – me too). I might go Waterman too if he plays.
Really struggling with FWD rookies this year. I think everyone is in the same boat on this. There are fair number of teams above with NO FWD rookies on the field for this reason.

      1. Thanks for the comments Chillo.

With a lack of Premiums and deeper selection of tested Rooks in the backline, I’m hoping to not make too many decisions in the until later in the season, hence going lighter. But… you did have a point. So, I’ve brought in Marchbank. Thanks for the insight.

          1. Cheers allsaints 🙂 The game is risk-reward, hey

Yeah… I certainly stole some ideas from your post above (Graham!). I pretty much could roll with your team as well, except for Ole’ Man Sandilands. I prefer the upside of Nankervis for the additional $8k. If I need to upgrade to Paddy at the 10-week mark, I’m in. But, I do think its a bit more of a sensible choice given the potential growth and ability to go the distance at that price-point if need-be with Nank.

Anyways, thanks again for the time reading/posting.

            Good luck this year 🙂

MID- Dangerfield, Mitchell, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Kelly (Banfield, Barry, Holman)

    1. I’ll assume you have a plan if Danger doesn’t make it to round 1. Dunkley is an interesting choice, I think he plays a defensive forward role at times which is generally a red flag for Supercoach. Still, if you’re confident, he’ll be a great POD.

  42. Hi Fellas its nearly game time, some thoughts on my side WhaleOilBeefHooked would be appreciated i know the criticism will be R2 and thats what im unsure of what to do aswell, other than that i feel very confident

Def: Laird, Hibberd, Savage, Naughton, Murray, Finlayson (Doedee, Keefe)

Mid: Martin, Mitchell, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Holman (Banfield, Kelly, Barry)

    Rucks: Gawn, Cox (Olango)

Fwd: Heeney, Billings, Smith, Caddy, Sicily, Fritsch (Ryan, Garlett)

Cox or Lycett i don’t know, think Cox maybe the better JS and scoring potential

    1. Hey Jacko, good looking side! Cox is an obvious risk (as you’re aware), but he frees up so much money for the other lines it may well be worth it. Nice work.

  43. Hey guys. Using SC Talk for the first time this year. Thoughts on my latest version?

Laird Hibberd Shaw McGrath O’Shea Garthwaite (Murray, Murphy)

Martin Sloane Merrett Fyfe Macrae Parker Finlayson Banfield (Fogarty, Barry, Holman)

    Gawn, Ryder (Sinclair)

Dahlhaus, Smith, Hewett, Dunkley(!), Keefe, Waterman (Fritsch, Ryan)

    1. Hey Gab – most obvious suggestion is to replace Sinclair with a rookie – that’s far too much coin left on the bench. You can use that money to upgrade one of your midpricers in the forwards.
You’ll need to check the team sheets for your def rookies; Naughton, Doedee and Coffield should be on the shortlist.
      Good luck!

  45. DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Ellis, Naughton, Doedee, Murray (Finlayson, Murphy)

MID: Dusty, Titch, J.Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Graham, Brayshaw, Banfield (T.Kelly, Barry, Holman)

    RUCK: Gawn, Nank (Olango)

FWD: Billings, Lambert, McLean, Smith, Sicily, Fritsh (Garlett, Ryan)

    20k left over.

I know I’m heavy on the Tigers players, but Nank will most likely be traded for paddy after his bye, and Graham likely to be gone at his bye as well (I reckon he’s a good cash cow, maybe even another C.Oliver). Dusty a lock, and I believe Lambert and Ellis can be top 10 in their positions this year.

I’m going with the 3-5-2-5 structure this year 0f sorts, due to the poor rookie choices that we have been given this year.
    Thoughts and Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Thoughts on adding a Zorko/Oliver as a POD in the mid? You’ve pretty much got all the most popular blokes at this stage

      1. I am considering swapping Kelly to Zorko or Zerret, but as for dusty, titch and fyfe, it’s just too hard to say no to them.

    RUCK: Gawn, Nank (Hayes)

FWD: Billings, Dahlhaus, Smith, Walters, Dunkley, Christensen (Fritsch, Ryan)

Thoughts on Dunkley/Christensen with the lack of FWD rookies? Can downgrade one or both and bring Ryder in for Nank/ put some more money in my backline. Any feedback welcomed

    1. Like your RUC and MID (with good PODs). Re: FWD dilemma, you could try downgrading one of them to Garlett, put Fritsch on the park and upgrade the other to a Cox/Caddy type.
Personally not convinced with Dahl but otherwise great I reckon. Gotta do what you’ve gotta do.
Best of luck for 2018 😉

  47. Taking this seriously for the first time. Trying to find somewhere that states what a good projected score would be for round 1 (I know it’s a bit meaningless, but…) I can’t get to 1900 but I have 10 cash-cows. (Herald-Sun SC) What do the pundit’s teams look like?

I’ll put the team up if you like but I’m essentialyl curious.

    1. I have 3 basic rules.
      1. No players who have swapped clubs.
      2. No players coming off an injury.
      3. No mid price mids.

looking for a POD similar to Sidebottom.

      1. * Higgins not playing early doors
        * Sidebottom a left field choice, Cripps probably a better option
        * Probably better options than Dahl

  50. I’ve tinkered a lot with this team and starting to get to a point where I feel comfortable to share it.

    From the backline:
DEF: Laird, MacDonald, Sicily, Coffield, Murray, Doedee Finlayson, Hibberd (NM)
MID: Martin, Mitchell, Kelly, Fyfe, Bont, Cripps, Brayshaw (Freo), LDU, Barry, T Kelly, Holman

    1. Love your team mate. I also like that you’re backing in your North rookies. When do you expect Ahern to play? He still seems a better choice than many of the others on offer.

      1. I’d be amazed if he played R1 after not playing in the JLT. He played in a practice match yesterday and got through it. Might stick with him if there aren’t a bucket of forward rookies named R1 as he’s so highly rated at North.

Also not starting with a loophole player

  56. Hey guys, would really like some opinions on my time at the moment.

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Howe, Naughton, Doedee, Finlayson (Murray, Keeffe)

MID: Danger, Titch, Fyfe, Cripps, Brayshaw(Freo), Brodie, Banfield, Kelly (LDU, Garlett, Holman)

    RUC: Gawn, Nank (Cameron)

FWD: Heeney, Greene, Billings, Smith, Sicily, Bell (Fritsch, Ryan)

Now before you all start ripping me apart with the “4 mid rookies, are you crazy??” please let me explain myself. Now I did have 5 premiums and 3 rookies but then I started to worry about the rookies in the forward line so I thought hey lets do something crazy and bring in another midfield rookie. So I traded out Zerret who I had had all preseason and upgraded my forward rookie to Toby Greene (yes I understand he is Flog God but people are saying he’s simmered down a tad so I’ll give him a shot) and I realised my forward line is so much stronger with no onfield rookies however I then began to worry about the points I will lose. BUT WAIT, THERES MORE!!! I figured out I should hopefully come out pretty even and heres how… If a mid premo scores 110-120 ppg and a forward premo scores 90-100 ppg I am down 20-30 points BUT my extra midfield rookie should be scoring 60-70 as opposed to the fwd rookies score of 40-50 which means I will come out 20-30 points ahead therefore having approximately the same amount of points AND greater cash generation to due to the higher scoring nature of mid rookies over forward rookies.

Anyway thats what I think but if you guys can see any major flaws in my ideas (and I’m sure there’s about 7) please let me know. Sorry for the essay, rip me to shreds boys.

    1. Looks great. Personally not sold on DingDong, but that’s all. Just with both Dayne’s back he may get pushed out rendering his awesome JLT scores redundant.

    2. Juts found this on the AFL website, dated 9Mar18
“Midfielder Mitch Wallis is in a similar situation to Boyd, with the 25-year-old also suffering a glute injury over the summer.

Wallis, who missed the club’s 2016 premiership with a badly broken leg, must also be in doubt for round one after he was unavailable for the club’s intra-club session in late February.”

  59. I must have had over 100 iterations of this team. Am going light in Defence up until tonight I have had Laird and Hibberd but have decided to go to Sicily and Ryan in the hope they become my D5 and D6 will bring Laird and Hibberd in when they dip below $500k. O’shea is interchangeable for Coffield or Cole. Mids are pretty stock standard. Have gone with Sandi in the hope he lasts until the Byes. I realise by including Buddy is counter to my argument on Laird and Hibberd but he can produce monster scores. The rest again stock standard apart from Taberner who people over here in WA having been bagging for Two years but he was super impressive in JLT especially if Darcy doesn’t play and he fills in as R2.

DEF: Ryan, Sicily, O’Shea, Naughton, Murray, Doodee (Finlayson, Mihocek)
MID: Dusty, TMitch, Kelly, Fyfe, Bont, Cripps, Brayshaw, Kelly (Holman, Banfield, Barry)
    Ruck: Gawn, Sandi (Olango)
FWD: Buddy, Billings, McLean, Smith, Petracca, Taberner ( Fritsch, Ryan)

    $20k left over

Figure Danger will miss at least Round 1. If he kills it am sure I can make corrective trades in Round 3 to get him in.

    Feedback appreciated.

  62. DEF: Larid, Hibbered, Shaw, Naughton, Coffield, Doedee, ( Murray, finlayson)
Mids: Martin, Mitchell, Merrett, Fyfe, Parker, Cripps , LDU, Dow, ( Kelly, Banfield, Holman)
    Rucks: Gawn, Jacobs (cameron)
Fwds: Heeney, Billings, Smith, Christensen, Ryan, Fritsch ( Venables, Ahern)

Im quiet happy with my team although i think i could be a little mid heavy but i dont trust players from the other lines enough. With LDU i watched both games that he played in and i reckon he was a little lost at times but improved as the game went on. The Luke Parker pick im confident that he will score well (115+) and get on the same level as Martin and Dangerfield

  63. Hi all,

Would love some input on this team:

DEF: Laird, Hibberd, Savage, Sicily, Naughton, Murray (Finlayson, Dodee)

MID: Danger*, Titch, Z. Merret, Fyfe, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Coffield, Kelly (Banfield, Barry & Holman)

    RUCK: Goldy and Gawn (Olango)

FWD: Heeney, Billings, Mclean, D. Smith, Fogarty, Fritsch (Keefe, Ryan)

    * Could downgrade Danger to Dusty for rd 1 and leave the cash for when he returns or leave as is, not sure what the play is just yet

Feel like i’m short in the Mids but have very little confidence in the FWD or BACKS so prepared to back the rookies in to generate some cash early!
