    1. Very solid side TrooRoo can’t really offer any advice.
All your premos are solid picks and rookies will pick themselves post marsh series.

    2. not sure how it gets 7 TU and the couple sides below have 1 or 2.
This sides not that fantastic you have 3 102k rookies that will hurt cash generation i hope you have a kitty too upgrade these. Heeney has the thumb issue, gawn a knee along will the foreveer injured nakia, kelly & Hill and dual ACL doch… very injury prone side.

        1. This is why SCT is my favourite SC community, this kind of rubbish gets downvoted comprehensively. Great work community.

    3. Great side TrooRoo. Nervous about Whitfield. Keep an eye on Marsh series bcoz he is still apparently nursing an ankle injury and you know GWS with their injuries secrecy.

I have one risk on each line: Doch, Jelly & Greenwoood. can easily change them all too safer options if need be once the marsh series roll round & we know more.
I know its very early and all the teams are very similar but here is mine I haven’t posted in quiet a while feel free to throw your two bobs worth in 🙂

    1. There are a few doubts on Greenwoods tank/TOG, at his price it’s a wait and see approach for me.

Ryan is a wait for me also with Youngs inclusion. Young was number 1 for intercept possessions in the under 18 comp and an elite user of the ball. Not sure how or if he will effect Ryans scoring.

As mentioned previously I’m struggling to see 5 DEF rookies playing round 1 but we will know more after the Marsh series.

    2. i don’t just don’t see the greenwood appeal? If he gets midfield mins he would be good for an 80 but there’s players cheaper that would be a lock for an 80+, I would use the the greenwood cash to upgrade b1 and b2

    1. Solid team however not really a fan of any team without Grundy and Gawn.
ROB will score decent however Gawn will score significantly higher, you will loose 15-20 points every round. However if this works could be a masterstroke depends how much risk your willing to take

      0

      7
    2. DOn’t mind it
ROB has a soft pre bye draw in terms of rucks.

I’m not sold on Greenwood personally but a lot of folk like him.

Are you planning on keeping ROB for the season or upgrading him?

      0

      3
      1. Unsure Gra Pol.
hopefully ROBs a serviceable R2 for the bulk of the season I hope he can avg 105-110.
Last year i started Gawn & Goldy then traded goldy down too ROB rnd 3/4 and used his as R2 (ballsy). I used that warchest of funds to grab a couple UBERs Macrae & TKelly from memory.
ROB was my R2 right up till beginning of SC finals and was pretty darn good then grabbed Gawn when it mattered. (I love playing for leagues)
I won 6/7 GFs i was in So I’m not set on the G&G I’m happy to look for value elsewhere and if i need i’ll grab gawn late or at the byes.

        1. If you happen to keep him you have 13 starters. IDK i’ve been toying with a non gawn/grundy team and I’ve decided if I go that route I’ll keep my ruck combo barring injury.

I think ROB can go big. He is a very determined young man by all reports.

    1. Cracking team, B1 B2 potentially could be an opportunity and I’m just not in the Hill band wagon after the last 2 seasons of injuries – I hope I’m wrong

    1. Solid side. Not too much feedback to give.

Just keep an eye on Steven’s fitness levels along with D Smith as there similar price so for your team structure it would seem one of the other.

Also rookies as we all now are going to change up until season start so not sure how much cash left over you have. If you have 50-100k your in a great position.

      Hope that helps

    2. Hill and Stevens are concerns, Stevens looks heavy, heavy means not fit which leads to injury,
Hill could be an issue, B1 B2 could be upgraded with Hill money.
      Midfield and Ruck are incredible.

      1. Cheers mate. Will pick the most in form out of smith and steven. Still think steven -although perhaps not 100%-will thrive alongside Geelong’s midfield when given the chance.

        Hill is a lock buddy.

I do understand that my “D1 and D2 are light. I am fully backing my gut with Daniel, however am looking at upgrading Sicily to a Williams, Lloyd (overpriced) or even down to a Houston type. Its not that i dont think sicily can reach a 100+ average, its just that he is undoubtedly a risk.

So team has been updated to have smith over steven, and williams over Sicily for now, but im gambling on both daniel and williams (probably sicily too) to score close enough to Lloyd. Add laird to that too

    Couple points currently not sure on, obsiouly JLT will help;

    – Do I roll with D martin, or do i start one premo less forward, make up 10k elsewhere, then I can swing Danger into my mids, and start 6 big guns in the middle?

    – Devon smith/ J Steven? Or do I start neither, which gives me the cash to also start Houston in my back line.

    Thoughts/Feedback would really be appreciated.

    1. Based on what Smith said on the news last night, I’d go him he thinks with a full preseason & his body feeling healthy he will be back to his 2018 role in mids.

I havent got either at this stage but if Smith is back to 2018 role I will lock him in. Big watch for Marsh Cup. Hope that helps.

    1. Risky but I can see your point not having G’G in ruck die to Gawn knee and Grundy being so expensive (break evens could work in your favour to upgrade later, however they might not- are you willing to risk it

      1

      3
      1. its a risk for sure, but figure I’ll get other downgrade opportunities elsewhere which can help me with ruck upgrades in need.

  13. First time poster here and second year of playing Supercoach.

Def: Sicily, Docherty, Doedee, Young, Starcevich and Rivers (Worrell, Gould)

Mid: McRae, Neale, Fyfe, Dunkley, Oliver, Cripps, Rowell and Pickett (McHenry, Valente, Robertson)

    Rucks: Gawn and Grundy (Comben)

I’ve been reading all the comments and write-ups from everyone, and this is the best I could come up with. Are there any glaring problems within the team that I may need to watch out coming up to the season starter (where my tigers will be resume it’s blue boy smashings)? Thanks guys

OK there may be a bit of Midpricer madness but there are DPP swings on every line which allows me lots of flexibility. I also have a pretty even spread across the byes which is something I didn’t have last year (and it cost me). Rookie selections obviously subject to change after practice games.

    Thoughts??

    2

    1
  17. Just looking at the byes and not taking that much notice with them being ages away but I have found with my team having a large chunk of players out in the middle bye, Round 13.

Martin, Heeney, Cripps, Treloar, Grundy, Oliver, Gawn, Docherty

Anyone have any players that they’d consider moving?

Most likely for me thinking of changing Dangerfield for Cripps

Also maybe subbing out Heeney or Martin and getting Laird into my backs

Really struggling to like anyone that has the round 12 Bye other than Neale and Dangerfield.

    Other options being

    DEF
    Hurn
    Houston
    Stewart

    MID
    Dangerfield
    Neale
    Kelly
    Yeo
    Merrett

    FWD
Parish – Not even a big fan was just the only player even close
(Couldn’t think of another player from this bye round with a 12 bye)

    1

    2
    1. I moved Gawn to Goldie
and a mid to T Kelly

I’ve got Martin and Heeney in the forward line which makes other upgrade targets from round 13 difficult in the forward line.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that some round 13 bye guys aren’t coming in to after their bye.

Currently I can upgrade to two round 13 guys I think.

    2. I’m keeping an eye on Gray and Gresham for a FWD, obviously a really thin group of players up front this year. It’s going to come down to which of these high 400k players step up and score some points.

      3

      0
      1. I like Gresham, he looks like his on the edge of a breakout season- if his trimmed down and fit he will be in my team. #midfield

  18. DEF – Williams, Stewart, Docherty, Doedee, Williamson, Gould (McLennan, Bianco)

MID – Fyfe, Cripps, Dunkley, Dangerfield, Oliver, Simpson, Pickett, Maginness (Bennell, Philp, Roberton)

    RUC – Grundy, Gawn (Comben)

FWD – Whitfield, Heeney, Greenwood, Hill, Cockatoo, Rankine (Cameron, Sturt)

    1. Looks good.

Can i ask, why no Macrae or Neale?

Otherwise, it is different to mine but i still really like the team.

      Good luck

      1

      4
      1. I haven’t gone with Macrae as his price is a bit much for me to start without having to bring in a Smith/Steven type at F3 (really like Greenwood here, reckon he can push top 8 forwards with a bigger midfield role at the Suns) and have stayed away from Neale due to being worried about him copping more of a tag. Obviously I won’t be completely disregarding either of these guys and *if* there are any injuries to my top 4 mids during preseason (I hope not – touch wood) I will be able to bring one of them in but at the moment they are upgrade targets for me. Hope this clears things up 🙂

        3

        1
        1. No probs. Gold Coasts history of lack of premium scorers has me very doubtful on greenwood, so he would have to be something very special to buck that trend (think miles and his hype last year, only to average 83). Barlow was another example of a decrease after suns move, but age and injury may have been a factor.

Not criticising at all, just trying to give you some things to consider 🙂

          All the best

          5

          0
      2. Better midfields take care or Tag Neale- Brisbane will
Have a tougher draw this year which will impact neales scoring.
I can’t stand McRae/ the amount of times he get cheapies out the back and the old side way kick receives then plan on shit 20m kick then the follow up and a hand ball out the a player under more pressure that’s what his in.
        #trade him

        1

        4
    2. I like it besides – Hill I cant trust and Stewart is having a shocking pre season! Look to down and upgrade those 2

  19. DEF – Williams, Laird, Weller, Hill, Williamson, McLennan (Cottrell, Gould)

MID – Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Dunkley, Cockatoo, Valente, Pickett (Flanders, McHenry, McInerney)

    RUC – Grundy, Jacobs (Comben)

FWD – Whitfield, Walters, Heeney, D.Smith, Rankine, King (Cameron, Brander)

Obviously rookie spots TBC, with a couple DPP’s deliberately placed. Found them invaluable last season.

    Any thoughts appreciated

    1. Interesting call going with Weller, any reason you’ve picked him over Docherty/Dawson/Houston etc?

Ballsy going without Gawn as well but I suppose you have used the cash saved to go deeper in the forward line with Dev, minimising the amount of forward rookies on field who are usually woeful.

All in all I like you’re set up, good luck for the year 🙂

      0

      3
    2. Love that midfield my god.
I’ve gone similar, and are not selecting Oliver as a reverse pod (instead ive opted for the higher priced guns).

Can see the reasoning behind your pods, but also arent a big fan of Weller. Think regardless of DPP flexibility, cockatoo should be up forward. Looks like you wont have many poor rookies on field, which should be good for early points. All the best

      2

      1
    3. Looks good – Hills going to break a lot of hearts, heeney lets me down every year- there are mid price players that will average more. I would down grade heeney and upgrade hill (doe$ / rob$)

      0

      5
    1. Yeah they are all wait and see options unfortunately.

Collier-Dawkins will still find it hard to break into that team, but they will eventually look to develop him into a big-bodied type midfielder. Has good outside speed too. Would probably slot him on the midfield bench if he is named round one, but one to watch in the Marsh for sure.

Lachie Ash really is every bit as good as Young imo. He is a composed halfback linebreaker withhis only downfall being the Giants suck at playing their rookies, whereas Young will have every chance. If he plays he could be a good “rookie pod”, so again the best we can do is look towards the marsh/rd 1. Its all about role and opportunity, but i like him.

Best sample size from Townsend isnt good imo. Would steer clear at that price. Dont think he will ever cut it at afl level.

Collier is the one to look to i reckon. Give him a good watch in the marsh.

      5

    2. Can’t believe We let Aish go- butchers the ball abit – pies had him on hand ball or down the line only – can find the footy though.

Dawkins will be interesting more so now than ever with MaC going down.

Town never really scored big? It was the Richmond 1% rule that go him games, kicking goals that one year is never to be seen again.

      1

      3
  20. Have noticed that lots of people post their teams asking for constructive criticism, but then get really defensive when suggestions are offered. Feel like this is a bit of a confirmation bias (the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or strengthens one’s prior personal beliefs) as opposed to actually seeking critical analysis or criticism. It ends up becoming a pretty pointless endeavour. Just a suggestion, but maybe it would help if people could start elaborating further on their selections and why they are picking/doubting certain players,as opposed to simply posting their team. Think this would turn a “rate my team” thread into a more purposeful (and less hostile) thread. That is all:)

    15

    2
    1. Just on that note, I do prefer when people, who have done something against the status quo post their reasoning about it in the original post.

      e.g
Didn’t select Doch because of the injury concern or as a negative pod.

Saves having deal with the obvious question that will follow.

  21. Anyone out there able to predict roughly what will happen with Oliver’s price after copping the tags round 1 and 2, then scoring roughly 110-140 next few weeks?
Is this too much to ask?

    4

    0
    1. Oliver had no preseason last year due to 2 shoulder surgeries, Contested ball beast however isn’t worth tagging as he isn’t damaging on the outside, Gawn and Olivier is up there with Grundy and Treloar, (Sandilands at his best and Fyfe) madden and Williams ect – You get my point.

Select him he won’t let you down THIS YEAR

      1

      4
      1. Oliver gets tagged. Check his history. He is the only player worth tagging at Melbourne, which has been one of his downfalls. Not saying he is a bad option – he is a great player and at his age his career progression could go anywhere. But you better believe he gets tagged very effectively

        3

  22. So my latest draft is a quite a gamble but I don’t want to give it all away:

Def – Houston D1 the rest cheapos and rooks
    Mid – 6 premiums, Treloar at M6
    R – G+G
Fwd – Whitfield F1, cheapos and rucks

Want to start strong and if my cheapos go well early, can start upgrading to proven D and F cause I feel guys like Lloyd, Laird,
Dusty, Heeney will drop in price and if guys like Doedee, J Steven etc go bang early, then my gamble pays off. If they don’t, I feel my scores will still be solid early cause of my Mids and I can adjust accordingly.

TU – I like the gamble
    TD – you’re an idiot

    Comments welcome of course

M – McRae, JKelly, Cripps, Dunkley, Danger, Treloar, McHenry, Pickett (Valent, Philp, Robertson)

        R – G+G (Draper)

F – Whitfield, Lynch, Steven, Hill, Cockatoo, Rankine (King, Budarick)

So what do you reckon? I have 10-12 keepers and plenty of possibilities. If Gawn doesn’t get up for R1, I’ll pick Jacobs and a stronger D or F.

        1. I like it, that side should keep you in the running until the dust settles and we know who is who and hopefully some of the midpricers kick on.

I think alot of super coach is risk management and you’ve got a good balance there.

          1

          3
          1. Thanks Gal, am definitely risking starting Doch, Doedee and Robertson (as several posts on SC have pointed out) plus am taking a view that Lynch will be the next Buddy and that Steven fills the T Kelly gap at Geelong – it can all go horribly wrong but I do love the 6 premiums set up in the middle and this was a way to achieve this without compromising my rucks.

Will obviously finalise after Marsh and could possibly turn Robertson/Steven into a premo D or F plus another rookie. Time will tell.

            Good luck this year.

            3

            0
            1. All i spot is 4 midpricers that wont be top six in their positions, which means trades and upgrades. Maybe two of these stepping stones would work, but four is where big mistakes happen. I’d get rid of lynch and Robertson, and keep steven and doedee. Houston is a gamble too

              3
    1. Great concept, let’s wait and see what JLT or whatever they call these days.
It will be a first if 14 backs and and forward cheapies and rookies constantly play and average the 70 combined that you need to compete with the best in your leagues.
Loading up the midfield is a safer bet particularly if those cheapies and rookies are getting midfield minutes as inside mids ROWELL *cough* *cough*

Really 50/50 on Martin. At the moment we got 12 premo keepers. Love to hear your thought!

    Thanks!

    1. S Hill is a risk, Bonar at F3 is a bit high however could pay of with him getting some midfield hang time.

      0

      5
      1. Again mate, he is not a risk at that price. Almost all the other forward rookies are more of a risk, because they could be dropped and they historically struggle to average even 40 points sometimes. Again, what score do you think Hill will get this year, because i can guarantee he will score more than 60, and even the most injury prone sticks can string together a few games. I dont even care who you pick- but you are seriously wrong mate.

    1. They’re all great players. Will be interesting to see Daniel goes after his break out last year. They have the bye in RD 14 which isn’t the biggest problem round for premiums. I would say you’ll be right!

No Steven Hill is a winner ✅
Areas to consider are Blakey – 1 season to early
Tom McDonald will be interesting, he really lead the Melbourne charge at sucking in 2019.
O’Brien could kick in this year, I just don’t think he will, the elite rucks in the Comp will now know how to exploit his weaknesses, I think that’s what happened late last year and Jacobs has to come back into support.

      1. Cheers for the feedback mate, certainly will give Rowell some thought. Don’t know about Laird he disappointed me a bit last year, I think Brodie Smith might take some points of him. Grundy will most likely make my side for Gawn, particularly if Gawn is under an injury cloud. I think I’d prefer O’Brien over Lycett though.

It would mean slow cash generation as I’d be waiting for those rookies to be getting the 150k+ $$$ to be able to trade them out.

    Let it RIP- ers

    1. Just can’t get around the J.Martin pick.

Greenwood is in most peoples sides because of the opportunity that he can go inside and play some midfield minutes. Martin has very little opportunity to go in there and play enough minutes to make it a worth while selection. I really can’t see a world where Martin is a top 8 FWD. You talk about Hill being injury prone but Martin 11,12,21,22,15 & 16. Definitely not the ideal player to hold off the injury bug

Not the end of the world but I really think 5 in the mids is a must if you can use the coin to upgrade one of those Rookies and get another big name into that engine room that is where the points are going to be scored.

You probably have too much money invested in those D4,5,6 M5,6,7,8 F4,5,6

With having all that extra money locked into those spots you could use the funds to get that each Midfielder.

    2. Not to rain in your parade.

Bonar, from memory has played 4 games in the top flight, has moved to a new team. Position is still uncertain, And to think of an 80+ Avg suggested could be a stretch. Yes currently at F4

Pickett has played 1 game, yes it was a blinder, but was only on the field due to injuries. Tigers have a huge amount of depth. HUGE Again to think an 80+ average bit of a dream. Does he even get consistent game time.? YES currently on my mid bench.

Lycett, bought him in late last year, score well for 2 games then for no apparent reason was drop for 3 weeks. Will it happen again.?

J Martin lots of hype for a suns player. Have you seen the Carlton list? Lots of midfield options available. No chance.

Docherty is a points machine, but 2 years out of the game? But my concern is he will not play a full season. Carlton have no chance of finals this year, but they will have a window in 3 to 4 years to challenge for the flag. Carlton club are building a good balanced team. They will need Docherty then, push to much….another knee injury and he is done. Currently not in my team pre season watch.

Rowell, will find it more difficult to get the ball or lay an effective tackle against Men. Currently not in my team. Pre season watch.

With all the value around I believe a minimum 5 premo midfield players is a must.
      Good Luck for 2020

    1. Looks good apart from Trent McKenzie. Hasn’t played more than 7 games in four years and hasn’t averaged over 80 in 7 years! Asking for trouble. Take Doedee or another rookie.

Worpedo could be a great pick, but I think you need a 5th MID who will practically guarantee you a 115 return. There are plenty to choose from.
Steven is a watch at this stage with a couple of niggles through pre-season. If he plays a decent role in Marsh and is selected Rd1 then yes. Doesn’t really matter where you start him (dependent on rookie numbers), but you’ll want him FWD eventually.

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck

I’m feeling a little light down back to be honest.

I’ve selected Jones as a bit of mid priced POD madness, whether he’s there at round 1….Marsh series will decide. I’m hoping a fresh start at the Saints will see him lift his game and go beyond his avg of 80 odd.

    Thoughts?

    1

    2
    1. Not sure about Jones either, but with five MID guns ahead of him, I don’t mind him at M6. He played pure inside MID (defensive) at STK’s intra-club game yesterday. That may be to free up Steele. Not sure yet. We’ll know more after the Marsh series. He’s gone from a ‘no way’ to a ‘watch’, but still think there are likely to be better options.

      1

      2
  44. Grasshopper.

Jones is a POD for a reason. 🙁

He just too much of a gamble in such an important midfield spot.

Sell him and “fix “your back line. Sam Docherty and Steven Hill are a couple of options.

I would actually get in both, and move Bonner or Cockatoo to the Midfield. ( Zacs spot )this will also open your DPP Mid / Fwd.

    Best of luck.

    1

    3
    1. @Freo….totally agree. Jones is a POD for exactly that reason. He’s a gamble. A very big gamble at that.

I’m ‘hoping’ that because he was somewhat held back from a running mid role with the Swans, that will change. He’ll be complimenting Gresham and Billings for example. Again, hopefully giving him more freedom as an onballer.

Bottom line, I’m a Blood through and through and Jones has always been a favourite to watch. The mans a bull.

I am reluctant to go in with someone who costs premium $$$ and could be injured at any time. Adversely I go without him and he stars I’ve lost already. If Young from Freo is going well you may need him in defence.

    1. It’s tough, there’s definitely things that are just tosses of the coin because we can’t predict the future.

In 2017 I went with Bont over Macrae and that was a huge mistake.

There’s about 6 midpricers and someone will pick the exact right ones to take and leave and do really well.

    2. The crucial point is that it is easier to trade DOWN from Gawn than it is to trade UP to him. Starting him is therefore less risky because should your decision be wrong, it is FAR easier to correct it.

  49. Had a couple of tries but getting closer to the team I want.

    Backs
Sicily, Houston, Docherty, Hill, Young, Williamson (Starcevich, Gould)
    Mids
Fyfe, Kelly, Cripps, Dunks, Danger, Cogs, Pickett, Robertson (Rivers, North, Hutchieson)
    Rucks
    Grundy, O’Brien (Comden)
    Fwds
Whitfield, Walters, Smith, Cockatoo, Rankine, King (Worrell, Cameron)

I think Cogs (injury free) is underpriced given that the last game before his injury (round 17) his score was 0 and counted in his average. This means his average is more like 106-109. As captain I can see his playing well and don’t forget he can bring big numbers (207 last season). My mid rookies are weak but that can be fixed after the Marsh matches.

    Thoughts?

    1. Few gambles there Mick but It could work out. I love the Cogs pick . Nice Pod you can put the VC on him some games . I am not sure about Young and Williamson as you could get value with cheaper rookies. I am sure you’ll iron that out come Marsh series.

    1. What’s not to like?! Looks great.
I’d personally try and squeeze in one more 20+ game Uber over Cogs, but that’s it.

        1. Check out his end of season stats. He’s durable with a ceiling and a certified keeper probably top2. But Dawson’s influence says hes way over priced this season. But still a solid pick, just not likely to give you the points for his cost.
I have him and dusty as first upgrade targets.

    Georgiades -> cockatoo/Bergman
Hinkley pretty much confirmed he will blood some new recruits round 1

  53. Not having Houston was scaring the hell out of me, but now i have come to the conclusion that sticking to my ‘non Houston guns approach’ can’t backfire too much, and has the massive upside of not being burnt by the unknown. I’ve gone for Williams and Daniel as D1 & D2, who i am backing in for at least a 100+ each. Its highly unlikely that Houston will come out and average over 105. For comparison, wines hasnt averaged over 99 for the past five seasons. Houston isnt amazingly skilled, and not the killer scorer some may think

      1. I agree GB.

I can’t really see both Starcevich and Roberton making a very strong Brisbane 22 come round 1.

        We can only hope 🙂

    1. I really like it, just worry that Ladhams will be given a little too much RUC time as part of his development, given where PTA are seemingly at.
But when you’ve got a coach stating you’re going for the Premiership this year, you have to think Lycett will be given every minute he wants. PTA are very good SC scorers and don’t have a bad fixture start to the season. If they start well, you’d think the Chink will give Lycett solo responsibility. He ave’d 120 last year as solo ruck …

I’d sit on that until the Marsh Series wraps up, make some adjusts where necessary and you’re set.

  62. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated, many rookies are still place holders as I’m not real sure about them this year.

DEF: Williams, Houston, Doch, Doedee, Starcevich, Gould (Rivers, Bianco)

MIDS: Macrae, Fyfe, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver, Rowell, Pickett, McHenry (E.Smith, Bytel, Mead)

    RUCKS: G & G (Conroy)

FWDS: Whitfield, Dusty, D.Smith, S.Hill, Rankine, King (Cameron, Worrell)

I’ve still got 83k and am not sure where to spend it.

I’ve got a few risky selections with Houston and Doch but am convinced Doch will average at least 100 as an experienced head in a young backline. And after Houston played exclusively in the mid in the intraclub I will be keeping a close eye on him and Doedee in the Marsh series.

Smith said he believes he will return to his 2018 role so will be keeping a close eye on him as well.

I’m also considering Ryan over Williams as a POD as I have a feeling that he will be more consistent this year with less low scores, however I didn’t want to take another risk in the backline.

Let me know what you think 🙂

Have been trying to formulate a team without the Grundy/Gawn combo and looking to take a decent amount of risk. Thoughts well and truly appreciated.
