I really like Cummings as a player, real accumulator. Hes hard pressed for a spot in gws’ stacked backline! They will probably opt for ash with his elite ball use.
Narkle is also another fella I really like! But I also had to cull him based on limited midfield time when Duncan comes back, he will be behind Duncan, selwood, Danger and selwood, with all those boys predominantly inter changing he wont see many ball ups etc.
I like the english pick, will make some coin. Whilst I think next year is his year, it could definitely happen this year!
Other than that the rookies are good and the structure is solid.
Fwd: Whitfield, Martin, Steven, Smith, Brander, Taylor (Rankine, King)
157k in the bank;
> Gone with the more expensive on field rookie options in defence as they should have better JS and scoring potential. Noble can easily be changed to Ash or Cumming depending on selections.
> Quite set on the mid premos only thing that might change is Green whos JS is in the air so can swap him out for another rookie.
> With regards to the rucks, at first glance Naismith really looks like a risk that could pay off. His two Marsh games both were on track for a score near the 100 mark if not being taken out towards the end of the games Ideally i’d hope for him to make 200k but if things go sideways and he gets injured I do have the funds for a straight swap to Jacobs.
> Forwards seem alright as i’ve tried to reduce the amount of rookie on the line. Would like to try and fit Machperson somehow in there as not too sold on Steven as of yet.
There are two key problems with starting Naismith:
I. As RanceIYMPs says, he is made of glass, which means,
II. You have to keep a substantial bank to cover the risk.
That is 30 onfield pts each week lost that you can never retrieve. If he averages 90, he is therefore really averaging 60, but the money he then makes you is real and NET in value.
If on the other hand, Xerri or CAMERON start and look solid, you can spend that spare cash on an early upgrade knowing you have cover. Alternatively, you could start a Ceglar or CC-J type in your FWD line as insurance and spend your bank BEFORE the season starts.
There are a few ways to cover the risk, but I reckon holding a slush fund to cover the risk is the least effective. You can’t EVER recoup lost onfield points. Spend your budget! But do it wisely. Good luck 🙂
The MIDs look weak while the DEFs look too strong for balance. Could be wrong but think BHill and CCameron, while both will be great to watch, will disappoint from an SC perspective.
Good luck!
They all don’t have to finish top six. If two of them finish top ten he has scored plenty of points and will probably have three other top tens through trading.

Very heavy spend on DEF line. Could work, but maybe better, cheaper options than Cumming and Ash (JS?!), eg Williams, that’s help you with FWD rookies (who a couple of may not do well enough to generate fast and good cash).
Just thoughts. Good luck!
Looks great but see Greene a little overpriced and therefore more of an upgrade target. Could be wrong of course, but a single value pick FWD could help bolster a DEF rookie to a Noble type?!
Good luck. Looks v solid.
Justification of running Naismith at R3 is for a bit of Gawn insurance as well as a money maker. If he can make 200k I’ll be happy. My other option is moving Xerri to R3 and having Long/Noble in the side somewhere.
Looks great despite spending that much on the bench (Naismith). While it’s a lovely idea, I’d rather spend the cash to further strengthen my onfield team and grab the extra valuable points (however minimal that may be). Noble or Long should comfortably do that for you.
Good luck!
Very happy with this version of my team, definitely would go into Rd 1 with it. Honest feedback would be much appreciated!
DEF: Lloyd, Weller, Doc, Cumming, BZT, Williams (Rivers, Gould)
Considering one main structure change, which would be to turn Lukosius into Roberton with a switch of rookie numbers from FWD to DEF (probably Rankine in, Worrell out). Really like the look of Lukosius, but if Roberton is fully firing, not sure I can keep him out.
I have seen some really good looking teams with 11 genuine premiums plus 2 fallen premiums in Doc and Smith. But in all those teams, they share the weakness of 5 fwd rookies that are all slow burn, and I am not sure if I trust them onfield.
So, I have gone a little more mid priced, stretched to 14 non rookies. I have a genuine 8 premo, 2 fallen premo plus 4 breakout contenders. My rookie set up is maybe slightly superior, or at least equal to those sides. I have potentially more early points and a better chance of reaching a A- to B+ premium side. It’s little chance of reaching full premium. I am hoping that this is the year that might be enough.
The weakness is only starting 8 premiums, and it’s highly likely that only 1 or 2 of my breakout contenders end up being premium. I am not sold on the premium defence options, so hoping that the 2 I have chosen may not be far off the pace for premium status. All my breakout contenders are based on significant role changes – more midfield time. So maybe justification for being overly optimistic.
Mid. Macrae Neale Dunkley Bont Oliver Rowell Green Pickett (Robertson Budarick North)
Ruck. Grundy Gawn (Comben)
Forward. Whitfield Ceglar Bradshaw Smith Crocker Taylor (Rankine King)
4K left. Wanted Xerri in R3, but just short. If he is named, I might need to change to fit him in. Probably Watson for Crocker, and maybe North to a playing rookie. North is actually a handy loophole when you look at Freo’s early draw, and from reports he may be a chance to come in during the season.
Lukosius* could become Roberton.
I just want to see Robo’s role in this new look Saints defence. I also think Luko could potentially start alright as the Suns usually do.
They seem to have their tall defenders fit, releasing Luko to a
wing. Hopefully he can go at 75+ until his late Bye, or he may become Houston R12 😉
I had Laird at D1 for ages but decided to get Dusty instead. At 60% ownership ( just like Whitfield ) if he goes bang, you are getting left behind big time. There just seems too much value in Steven Smith. After the Marsh Series, I see two potential keepers for under $700K ..where do you sign me up ?
Let me know what you think.. or should I say eat me alive.. he he.
I’ve gone for a bit of a left field team this year, trying something new. Might bomb miserably, but not keen on another cookie cutter team. It just makes the game boring, all having the same players.
DEF: C. Daniel, L. Ryan, S. Docherty, D. Roberton, BZT, W. Gould (L. Ash, J. Brander)
MID: J. Macrae, J. Kelly, T. Kelly, S. Coniglio, H. McLuggage, M. Rowell, T. Green, M. Pickett (N. McHenry, D. Robertson, C. Budarick)
RUC: B. Grundy, N. Naitanui (C. Comben)
FWD: L. Whitfield, J.Ceglar, A. Brayshaw, J. Steven, D. Smith, A. Bonar (C. Taylor, M. King)
I’ll probably crash hard, have to make a hundred trades in the first few weeks. But oh well, I’m not gonna win the whole thing anyway.
Well only a week to go thank goodness. Bring it on.
Nasty people have conspired to remove most potential rookies and it’s doing my head in. So many drafts, but today i’ve Don3 the u thinkable and left big Maxy out to free up some cash for much needed mid pricers
The logic is that he is under done and he may have controlled game time early on, especially with the young fella in the wings. If he starts slowly and drops in price, maybe I can pick him up later in the season. Otherwise I, and most others, are likely to struggle for playing rookies, and I hate donuts! Plus also limited cash generation.
So
Defence
Houston, B Smith, doc, Roberton, ash, Brander (Gould, Williams)

Macrae, Neale, Dunkley, Cripps, Oliver, Rowell, green, Pickett (Robertson, Hibberd, Budarick
Rucks
Grundy, Ceglar ( Xerri)
Forwards

7k in the bank
Amazingly still 12 rookies that may not get selected. On the other hand 11 or 12 premo keepers including high price mids, maybe 14 if a couple of “risks” come off.
Can’t find any extra cash for a better F3, or to get Steven, Noble or a premo D1.
Still we are all in the same boat. Good luck to all and fingers crossed for some rookies come next Thursday.
PS. Thanks to all contributors for a wealth of data, background info and opinions
I had opted for a weaker M4 and M5 to enable some sort of balance in the squad, however i am expecting big things from both Oliver and McCluggage(especially him).
That sacrifice for me would have to mean I’m getting a player in a different position that is a must have.
Feels a little too risky for not a lot of reward.
You’re essentially banking on other option being a top 6 DEF/FWD and Mclug/Oliver both being top 8. Could work out, but if I’m picking Oliver/Mclug over a Neale/Danger/Bont type I’d want that to mean I get a guaranteed star in another spot so I’m only taking 1 risk.
FWD: Dusty, Whitfield, Macpherson, Brayshaw, Smith, Crocker
Bench: Taylor, King
Risky going without the 5 premo mids, but thinking is it means I can pick all quality rookies and load the forward line. Also, the fact that there are so many quality mids means I can probably pick up some fallen premiums down the line. Not sold on Macpherson, he could become Petracca or Docherty using Branders DPP.
Both are very similar with I think only 3 different players so it comes down to
Cameron, Gawn & Coniglio V Cripps, Jacobs & Noble
My expectation of scoring:
Cameron (50) will not play every game so may be different, Gawn (120 plus capt option) & Coniglio (105) = 225 (275 with Cameron)
V
Cripps (115), Jacobs (90), Noble (70) = 275
Just shows that either way if pretty solid go with your gut feel & best of luck which ever you choose
I’d either run Houston down back or not at all and, yeah, I’m with you on Roberton. Saints have too many HB options; Clark, Long, Savage and Roberton are always going to rob each other. Two will have big games, other two will bum around at 60~.
Hoping Doedee or Young can get up for R1 to replace him.
Need help please! Don’t need to break any records in scoring just need to beat my dads team lol! Thoughts? Advice? Players I need?

Of course none of this matters if they cancel the season due to coronavirus but just in case I gotta have my team ready! Cheers lads!!
I see what you were thinking, but I think you’ve got to make a few radical changes:
1) Starting with your DEF. Lienert, Gould, Towey, Bianco and McCay all need to go. Lienert is SC irrelevant and the latter 4 won’t play. Zerk-Thatcher, Noble, Ash and Starcevich are all pretty much essential down back. Lloyd, Stewart and Doch are all great backs btw.
2) Prestia, Coniglio and Smith (put him up FWD perhaps) won’t be Top 8 MIDs, they’ve got to go. Replace them with any of Neale, Bont, Dunkley, Fyfe, Oliver, Yeo, etc.
3) You’re on the money to be looking for 200k 2nd/3rd year players to make up for the lack of rookies like Hinge, but I doubt he plays this year. Just go for 5 premo MIDs and Pickett, Rowell and Green. Instead of Hinge, consider guys like Noble, Bewley and Vandenberg.
4) RUC and FWD lines look good, very good. Personally, not sold on Dawson but everyone is being forced to roll the dice at F3 this year. Brayshaw, Dawson, Smith, Steve, Petracca, MacPherson, etc.
Action a couple of those points and you’re set pending Thursday team sheets.
Mate that is just the advice I need! Can’t thank you enough. Still new to this SuperCoach thing but really enjoying the challenge. All the best for your team this year. Thanks again
Looks like a solid team. I thought of having yeo but with gaff, shuey and Kelly in team not sure if he’s going to keep putting up 100+ performances. Just a thought
Pretty good side…the only thing worth thinking about is whether you want to load and lock 5 premium mids (e.g 90%+ chance to finish top 10 in scoring avg at end of season) and then fill final 3 spots with rookies.
This is the best that the JR crew could come up with so I thouhgt I’d punish them by Sharing it here for you guys to copy
Hurn,Shaw,Docherty,

Dylan Stephens a decent pick or better of looking at someone like Schultz from Freo or any cheapie on another line? Potentially Lukosius or something along those lines?
Unsure if Stephens will get up for R1, looked lost in the Marsh Series. Schultz looked great but his scoring will fluctuate depending on goals. Lukosius is a touch overpriced for his output in a weak SC side, but I’ve seen a couple of people back him in. There’s also guys like Bewley, Vandenberg, Bonar – but they’ve all got questions marks over them as well.
For me, I’m loving John Noble at F4. Solidly in the Pies 22, 215k, looks comfortable at AFL and should go @ 70~ SC. L-l-l-lock!
Interesting structure, but a couple of selection issues. Will take em’ line by line:
DEF: Touch too much risk with Roberton and Crisp, both inconsistent so maybe limit yourself to one of them? Axing Roberton for Starcevich could free up some cash to address other lines.
MID: The only line this year with some decent rookies, so I wouldn’t be stacking your midfield. Too many hit or miss options as well; the Brayshaws and Hanneberry won’t be Top 8 and none are priced to be stepping stones. I’d instead grab 5 premos + Rowell, Pickett and Green. I like the Titch pick btw.
RUC: With the money you’ve freed up from those DEF and MID changes, do yourself a favour and get Gawn. Just do it lol.
FWD: Easily your best line. Really nice, Brad. Leave that as is. If you rate Brayshaw, you can chuck him FWD.
I believe most of these rookies will play maybe besides mid and defense bench rookies. What do you guys think??
Thoughts appreciated. TU or TD
Def: Laird, Houston, Doc, Noble, BZT, Brander(B.J Williams, Gould)
Crystal ball time. He played SOO and Marsh so is obviously good to go.
I’d ask myself two questions:
How will you feel if you don’t start him and he starts smashing out 120s and 130s every week?
How will you feel if you do start him and he only averages 100 or worse, gets injured?
I know which feeling I’d rather have!
Hope that helps a little?! Good luck
Looks great mate. The suitcase you’re only real gamble so that’s fine. Good luck mate and I look forward to resuming our rivalry (ie smashing you) in the coming weeks! 😉
Thanks All Saints
Just got Gawn in .
To be honest like to take a few more risks and toyed with Lukosis English and Brayshaw and Oliver .
More mid time for Petracca , addition of Tomlinson and Langdon and Melbourne’s tough early draw and lack of rookies turned me off Oliver .
Actually quite confident in Mcluggage out scoring Oliver and Neal being top 3 mid and Bont stepping up as captain with more mode time with addition of Bruce . Just needs to overcome Deboar tag
Good luck .

You need playing rookies full stop. Wait for teams to be announced and make the necessary sacrifice. Whoever you’re least 11% on out of Laird, Titch and Dusty will likely have to make way to make this happen.
Start the best team you can, but NOT at the expense of more than one non-playing rookie.
I get wanting to minimize on-field FWD rookies, but you’ve gone too deep up FWD imo. I’d get a 5th midfield premo and Gawn instead of stacking your FWD.
While your current structure could pay off in the early rounds by avoiding those bum rookie scores, you’ll pay for it OA vs those who started Gawn and an extra MID premo.
I would guarantee that members of the the top 50 would use this site.
Irrespective of the community’s opinions (which are like arseholes – everyone has one) the amount of factual information and analysis from amazing contributors like Father Dougal and AllSaints makes this site compulsory viewing.
Ha ha GD. Goldy is just like the energiser bunny… just plug him in and off he goes and goes and goes. I am choosing Goldy’s durability of Maxi’s scoring.
I think cramming matches may make a significant difference here.
Fwd: Whitfield, Martin, Petracca, Steven, Smith, Taylor (Rankine, King)
> In defense I have gone cold on Roberton mainly due to Long taking his role and downgraded him to Williams.
> Using All Saints advice on not leaving a chunk of cash over, with the left over cash I previously had and the cash gained on Roberton I have added Petracca for Starceivich via Brander. However still tossing between switching him to Ceglar to reduce the risk of Naismith by using Ceglar as cover.
> Overall I feel I have evaded fielding many rookies with only 5 players under 200k on field, with there not being many rookies this year with high scoring potential.
Kinda really want D.Smith & J.Steven combo though in so was thinking something like:
TU: Cogs, D.Smith, Crisp, Brander
TD: Macrae, Laird, Ash, King
But don’t know if this would be the smart option, cause I really do like Laird, and the amount of people that picked Macrae, you kinda have to have him
Not sold on Cogs yet, but just short on getting Oliver or better.
Although no Gawn is a bit frightening to think about, it allows me to upgrade several rookies to mid pricers.
Please let me know any thoughts or suggestions!

Very heavy spend on DEF line. Could work, but maybe better, cheaper options than Cumming and Ash (JS?!), eg Williams, that’s help you with FWD rookies (who a couple of may not do well enough to generate fast and good cash).

Looks great but see Greene a little overpriced and therefore more of an upgrade target. Could be wrong of course, but a single value pick FWD could help bolster a DEF rookie to a Noble type?!
Good luck. Looks v solid.
Any thoughts and criticism (constructive or otherwise, froth a bit of banter) is very much welcome 🙂

About 70k in the bank.
Good luck!
I think I’m happy and done until the teams are released next week…. in the meantime I’d appreciate some feedback.

So, for all that:
Def. Houston Weller Doc Noble BZerk Starcevich (Brander Williams)

Thoughts??
Afternoon, Hysni.
I’d either run Houston down back or not at all and, yeah, I’m with you on Roberton. Saints have too many HB options; Clark, Long, Savage and Roberton are always going to rob each other. Two will have big games, other two will bum around at 60~.

Hey, Adam.
Your structure is very solid, I’m just not sold on the Coniglio and Goldy picks. I’d cull one of your FWD mid-pricers and go:

Or something along those lines depending on how much cash you’ve got.

Afternoon, Glen.
Best of luck.

Definitely a valid point, they have a pretty stacked midfield.
Yeo just seems to win a lot of ball and rarely butchers it.
Ideally I’d like Neale but that won’t work with the way my team is set up and how the cap is structured.
Yeo seems a good fit at that price.
Pretty good side…the only thing worth thinking about is whether you want to load and lock 5 premium mids (e.g 90%+ chance to finish top 10 in scoring avg at end of season) and then fill final 3 spots with rookies.

What a problem to have lol.
D. Smith and Neale plus a top shelf rookie is looking like a deadly option.
L-l-l-lock!
Got Noble in there, very happy with his output in the Marsh. Will have to have a look at an outside option, or could potentially go Robbo at D4

Evening, Brad.
Hope that helps, mate. Best of luck.
My round one team playing in front of zero crowds.
Sitting on this team till rookies revealed next week. Thoughts? Bit of coin left over.
DEF: Lloyd, Laird, Docherty, Noble, Zerk, Starcevich (Gould, Watson)

VERY nice.
Probably going to be my set team, and would love maybe a fine tweak somewhere

Can we get away with not starting Whitfield?
Im not sold on his durability and hope he can drop in price sometime
TU: don’t start him use the $$ for other lines
TD: don’t be stupid lock him in
Crystal ball time.
Good luck

Good luck .

Tried to make a balanced team:
DEF: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Zerk-Thatcher, Starcevich, McLennan (Gould, O’Connor)

Biggest concern at this stage is no Fyfe and at least 2 non-playing rookies come Round 1, with only 3.8k in the bank.
Any advice?
You need playing rookies full stop. Wait for teams to be announced and make the necessary sacrifice. Whoever you’re least 11% on out of Laird, Titch and Dusty will likely have to make way to make this happen.
Start the best team you can, but NOT at the expense of more than one non-playing rookie.
Looks great by the way. And that should say 110%!

Hey, Peter.
Best of luck.

You blokes have no idea. Everyone on here just copies the same setup. Is there actually anyone on here top 50 from last year?
I would guarantee that members of the the top 50 would use this site.
Irrespective of the community’s opinions (which are like arseholes – everyone has one) the amount of factual information and analysis from amazing contributors like Father Dougal and AllSaints makes this site compulsory viewing.
I think the coronavirus deleted my avatar…. but I am back.
I would like to see your team Rebecca
Seen you think everyone on here
has no idea! There’s a lot of great
teams on this site and great
information.
Why are you on here?
Given the fact that no games have been played yet and you can count all the good rookies on your hands, yeah most of us have similar teams.
And, yes, from memory Ithaca, e=mchammer, TrooRoo and Anthony all finished Top 100 last year.
Here is my latest iteration of my team.

I think Houston may be too risky, so if u still want smith you could trade him

Just ideas, Good Luck!
Don’t let your Roos’ support cloud your vision, Shaggi.
Gawn over Goldy all day.
Ha ha GD. Goldy is just like the energiser bunny… just plug him in and off he goes and goes and goes. I am choosing Goldy’s durability of Maxi’s scoring.
I think cramming matches may make a significant difference here.
G’day again, made a few small changes to my team posted before:
Def: Laird, Houston, Docherty, Noble, Zerk-Thatcher, Brander (Williams, Gould)
Mid: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Dunkley, Oliver, Rowell, Green, Pickett (Robertson, McHenry, Budarick)
Ruck: Grundy, Naismith (Xerri)

> In defense I have gone cold on Roberton mainly due to Long taking his role and downgraded him to Williams.
> Using All Saints advice on not leaving a chunk of cash over, with the left over cash I previously had and the cash gained on Roberton I have added Petracca for Starceivich via Brander. However still tossing between switching him to Ceglar to reduce the risk of Naismith by using Ceglar as cover.
> Overall I feel I have evaded fielding many rookies with only 5 players under 200k on field, with there not being many rookies this year with high scoring potential.
Would love some new feedback 🙂
