Rockliff Revisited

Written by MJ on June 3 2015

We’re all talking about Tom Rockliff again, but this time it’s for all the wrong reasons. The poor chap has gone and broken three ribs during the match against the Saints, yet played through to still salute the crowd with an SC ton. He is an undoubted champion, but will have to either sit on our collective benches for 4-6 weeks or face the big red T.

If you’re battling for a decent overall ranking, it’d be daft to keep him for that long, but a league focus may see some opting for a hold strategy, at least for the time being. Maybe you’re waiting a week or two for the right option to bottom out in price?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. 6 weeks is a really long time. I think it’s dependent on circumstance – anyone with more than 18 trades should flick him, anyone with less or only playing for league wins should definitely hold. Also, he should only be moved on for someone who will be in your final side – otherwise that’s 3 trades out the window for one guy.

I’m personally moving him on, with an eye to getting him back for that JOKE of a footballer/person Ryan Griffen around round 18.

  2. I’m torn. Not keen on trading for another LTI so will hold this week at least. But going to be hard to keep him over the BYEs when you need all hands on deck and you’re seeing nearly $500K sitting idly on your bench.

  3. Bye rounds help cos you only need 18 scoring players, so there’s 3 weeks 😉 . Last time (R1) he was meant to miss 4-6 weeks but only missed 2 games. I’m still undecided cos I’ve only had him for 2 weeks where he’d raised the bat on both occasions.

  4. If this was pendles or anyone else who we all had since the start of the year I think we would all be trading him out straight away, but the fact that we all just brought him in the last 2 weeks makes everyone reluctant to trade him out, when really it shouldn’t factor in at all. I for one need as many on the park during the bye rounds as possible so Rocky is out. If this happened in Rnd 13 I might hold him, but just before the byes, no chance.

  5. Hold I say, its 4-6 weeks, 3 of those 6 weeks (worst case scenario) are byes, so only your best 18 play – as long as you can get 18 on the field each week – I’d hold Rocky

  6. I can remember a few years back when Gibbs was in a similar proposition to Rocky – most players held. When MJ posted his journey to being a top 10 player, if I recall correctly, he traded Gibbs out and then traded back in when he returned. Whilst most of us are not top 10 prospects, I think there is a lesson to learnt in maintaining momentum if you are looking to achieve a high overall position.

  7. Mmmmmm, what to do with Rocky?

If I keep him, he can be loopholed quite well over the next 5 weeks R10…Sunday game, R11…Bye, R12…Saturday night game, R13…Saturday twilight game, R14…Sunday twilight.

But momentum in overall position is important, being in the top 40…. I’m thinking it makes sense to trade Rocky out!

  9. Leaning toward trading Rocky now and contemplating the following:

    Rockliff – Wines
    Oxley – Wallis (McKenzie)

    Good trade?

  10. I feel like even if Rocky is out for 4 or so weeks his ribs will be subject to reinjury and id much rather a Wines or another fallen premium running around making points for me in the interim.

  11. Straight swap, Rocky to Joelwood. I know he hasn’t been in great form recently but he is an A grade champion who will bounce back to his best.

  12. Somewhat surprised at the result from this poll! When making it, I thought “Trade Immediately” would be the most popular option.

Then again, I’ve always been an aggressive trader! I’ll be flicking him this week.

  13. Sorry Rocky, but thanks for the last fortnight……got a gut feeling it’s going to take 6 weeks to recover a 2nd time around!

Rocky out, switch Newnes to mids & Gibson in def
Oxley out, switch Newnes to def & Wallis in mids

    T/U……Good trades Catta
T/D……Start again Catta, you can do better

    Cheers SCT coaches
