As we move rapidly towards Supercoach finals, it’s easy to focus on which premiums we should be getting and just push the rooks to the margins. However with 10 teams still to have their bye this year, the rookies are actually more important than they have ever been at this stage of the year. Furthermore in this abbreviated season, we’re almost to the point where any cheapies you bring into your team will be there for the duration, and therefore every downgrade choice you make is crucial! Here’s the best and worst of the freshmen from round 11.
DEFENDERS
Player | Club | Price | Score (avg) | BE |
---|---|---|---|---|
Lachlan SHOLL | ADE | $155 400 (+$32K) | 71 (62) | -29 |
Trey RUSCOE (MID) | COL | $138 900 (+$22K) | 55 (49) | -14 |
Tom WILLIAMSON | CAR | $243 800 (+$17K) | 87 (56) | 0 |
Trent RIVERS (MID) | MEL | $180 600 (+$15K) | 54 (49) | 9 |
Matthew COTTRELL | CAR | $123 900 | 33 (33) | 19 |
Will DAY | HAW | $279 300 (+$23K) | 87 (72) | 24 |
Andrew MCPHERSON | ADE | $281 000 (+$35K) | 79 (71) | 31 |
Brandon ZERK-THATCHER | ESS | $231 500 (+$7K) | 16 (50) | 32 |
Ben MCKAY | NTH | $274 300 (+$15K) | 68 (69) | 39 |
Lachlan ASH (MID) | GWS | $278 800 (n/a) | DNP (54) | 45 |
Matthew EAGLES | BRL | $155 800 | 13 (13) | 52 |
Stephen HILL (FWD) | FRE | $279 400 (+$13K) | 61 (64) | 58 |
Brandon STARCEVICH (MID) | BRL | $229 500 (-$18K) | 11 (51) | 82 |
Derek EGGMOLESSE-SMITH | RIC | $273 400 (-$19K) | 33 (61) | 97 |
CHEERS: Forgettable times for Hawks fans but the form of draftee Day has been a rare highlight, looking composed in the backline for his 18 possessions at 88% efficiency. Williamson is still in 6% of teams for some reason and rewarded his patient owners with the best performance of his career thus far, running through the midfield on occasion and managing 6 tackles to go with 13 touches. And at long last Rivers returned, and what’s more he played well in a solid Dees victory (14 possessions, 6 marks). Hopefully he has more cash to make for those who held onto him all this time!
JEERS: Starcevich – what a mare! If you held on to him for bench cover that was clearly a mistake, as he has now dropped almost $70K from his max price. Zerk-Thatcher backed up his score of 90-odd last week with a putrid 3-possession effort against the Suns, which has completely cooked his cash gen for the time being.
TRADE TARGETS: Cottrell actually played better than his Supercoach numbers would suggest. Still a brave pick if you’re looking for a defensive downgrade though. Sholl is more expensive but probably a better choice; his 16 possession effort against the Pies was outstanding and he looks to be safe in that 22 for a while to come. Ruscoe is a bit cheaper and comes with DPP if you prefer a Pie in your team. He’s fun to watch too! Special mention to Eagles, who is not Supercoach relevant in the slightest but it’s always great to see The Recruit get a game!
MIDFIELDERS

Sam WICKS | SYD | $123 900 | DNP (80) | -28 |
Jack BYTEL | STK | $123 900 | 76 (76) | -24 |
Xavier O'HALLORAN | GWS | $123 900 | DNP (68) | -16 |
Harry SCHOENBERG | ADE | $138 900 (+$22K) | 39 (49) | -14 |

Dylan STEPHENS | SYD | $223 000 (n/a) | DNP (53) | 19 |
Sam SIMPSON | GEE | $287 000 (n/a) | DNP (78) | 21 |
Ned MCHENRY | ADE | $195 600 (-$2K) | 48 (40) | 28 |
Caleb SERONG | FRE | $381 000 (+$51K) | 82 (79) | 34 |
Harley BENNELL | MEL | $226 400 (n/a) | DNP (53) | 53 |
Jye CALDWELL | GWS | $295 400 (n/a) | DNP (66) | 55 |
Noah ANDERSON | GCS | $339 200 (+$0K) | 74 (67) | 71 |
Marlion PICKETT | RIC | $353 400 (+$5K) | 48 (70) | 97 |
CHEERS: Serong returned from the bye and continued on his merry way, accumulating 20 disposals and 6 clearances as well as attending 87% of centre bounces. He’s still a hold until they rest him or kick him out of the centre square!
JEERS: Schoenberg was by far the most traded-in player this week and sat on -4 at quarter time. Eeek! Fortunately he “recovered” to post a semi-respectable score, but the potential returns of Sloane and Crouch may have his owners on edge.
TRADE TARGETS: Wicks and O’Halloran come off their respective byes after each had eye-catching debuts, and both have already been named for their second game (potentially lining up against one another!). Expect them to be among the most popular trades this week. Bytel came in for Saints and played most of his time in the midfield, compiling 18 possessions and 5 clearances. Unfortunately coach Ratts didn’t sound overly impressed by Bytel’s efforts at the post-match presser, so buyer beware!
RUCKS

Sam DRAPER | ESS | $166 100 (n/a) | DNP (74) | -47 |
Luke JACKSON | MEL | $264 200 (+$15K) | 73 (58) | 1 |
Darcy CAMERON (FWD) | COL | $270 200 (+$51K) | 102 (70) | 8 |
Tom DE KONING | CAR | $123 900 | 38 (38) | 14 |
Cameron was the ultimate in bench coverage if you were missing Max this week, clunking 9 marks and booting a couple of majors on the way to a valuable ton. Jackson took the lead ruck mantle at Melbourne and performed admirably for his 11 possessions and 5 hitouts. De Koning was the newcomer to the ruck ranks this week and showed some nice signs among his 5 disposals and 11 hitouts, although the Carlton lineup was noticeably too tall in that game and changes may be made this week.

Max KING | STK | $314 400 (+$5K) | 44 (60) | 86 |
CHEERS: Woodcock rewarded those who took the punt on the basement priced rook, sparking the Power forward line with 12 possessions and a goal. Sparrow and Stengle are rookie PODs who once again rewarded their handful of owners, while Rankine returned to his exciting best against the Bombers. He’s already been a great cash cow, but imagine if he could find the goals a bit more regularly!
TRADE TARGETS: Flanders is an intriguing prospect who looks like he’s going to be yet another great draft pick for the Suns, but his role and inflated price tag probably exclude him from Supercoach this season.

I know this is not the right forum. However, while using a mobile to make trades and whatnot to my sc side is there a way to move dpp players. This might be obvious to most but not me so. Appreciate any help.
Hey Bobo.
Trade the player out as you normally would. At the bottom of the screen should be a “Trade Out” tab. Hit that, then press the ‘S’ next to the DPP you want to move into the vacant spot.
Go back to “Trade In” and select the new player to bring into your team.
Hope this helps!
Hey there chillo,
Wealth of info mate. Appreciate the advice and good luck for this round.
Is it worth spending the little bit extra to downgrade to Woodcock this week? His JS looks pretty good especially with that Rozee injury and the DPP is really handy
I think so, as long as you’re not expecting to play him on the field too often. I get the feeling he’ll throw in a few 40s.
Btw he’s forward only.
Woodcock is a Fwd only so does not have Fwd/Mid DPP status.
Cheers guys, must have misread his status.
As a follow up question, is it worth trading him for a rookie like Simpson or Georgiades who are yet to fully hit max price? Or should I wait for another rookie in a week or 2? I’m just a little uncertain of rookies JS in the upcoming weeks considering teams are coming off their byes/about to have them
Cash now is regularly better than cash later, if you can make good use of it.
TU Zerk>Sholl
TD Budarick>Wicks
Need DEFs moreso than MIDs.
Not sure who has better job security
Targeting rookies this week, shouldn’t be as bad in determining whether they hold their spot or not. Starting to go back into a standard schedule this week, so less nights of only 2 teams being named, gives wider range of rookie selections.
Hoping Cottrell holds his spot and does better against Freo this week. Managed to avoid Starcevich but didn’t jump on Scholl which causes concern
And of course i just read off twitter that for the remainder of the year all selections are released 6:20pm the day before each game……………….
Will Doedee’s bad news be good news for Sholl, in terms of job security?
Got me out of a bind chillo. Wanting to move Devon Smith back to forwards to bring in wicks. Not sure he will score better than last week , or as well against the giants. But now I hear only 1 change at Geelong with osava coming back in and no Simpson. So if that’s the case I might have to say goodbye to Simpson despite his low break even. Decisions decisions…. and again thanks for your help earlier.
Bringing in Wicks and O’Halloran as my rookie downgrades. Who do we think will score more / who should I put the E on as a potential loophole (with Simpson).
TU – Wicks
TD – O’Halloran
Good qu nadonis.
Think it will come down to which team plays better on the night. 50/50 in my eyrs
Gee Bytell was impressive. Coach had enough faith in him to be at the centre bounces against Danger and co in his first game (Although I thought it was terrible coaching) so I would be surprised if he doesn’t hold his spot for a few weeks at least.
