  1. Great stuff Tim!

Just wondering, don’t you think the Heat will play Pattinson over Stekete for the first couple matches between test matches?

    1. That was the most difficult selection that I’ve had to make so far.

I like Pattinson more since he’s almost an all rounder. That wasn’t enough to select him though. Steketee’s recent form in the JLT Cup and Sheffield Shield was too good to ignore for me in the end.

      1. Watching Stekete the last few years though, he gets towelled up especially in the latter overs if he is used that way by the Heat again … the Heats big weakness is restricting runs … I haven’t selected him for that reason

        1. With the addition of Laughlin into the squad this year. I see Lalor (1 over) and Laughlin (2 overs) bowling at the death. I would imagine the other bowler would be Z. Khan or Ur Rahman at the death. Steketee could still bowl an over at the death. I haven’t watched any of the JLT Cup or the Shield but if Steketee has developed an effective slower ball and yorker (that’s all a bowler needs to bowl at the death) he should be right at the death. I’ve said similar things about players in the past based off last year sc scores or their stats and a lot of the time that season they’ve developed the balls above and improved on their avg from last year.

            1. Yeah that’s true. For most the double game weeks for teams, it’s going to be common the trick is to work out the common players and keep the high scoring (and ranking) PODs.

          1. Looks like Steketee will play now.

Hazelwood just did his hammy (likely 3-4 weeks recovery).

This means Pattinson will likely get called up to replace Hazelwood for the Boxing Day test and the possibly the Pink test.

    1. He was always going to BBL just not international cricket.

He’s an option later from (rd 5 onwards) but I would be hesitant selecting him early.

    1. I don’t think he’s a very good bowler. He’s great for the middle over but him bowling at the death last year wasn’t very economical.

Playing 5 bowlers eliminates that, Laughlin and Lalor as both specialist death bowlers, Khan, Swepson and Stek can bowl in the middle overs.

Out of those 3 one of them (pending on how many wickets fall early in the innings) will need to bowl an over at the death.
