SCT AFLW Fantasy Comp 2019 – Entry Details

Last year, we here at SuperCoachTalk made history by holding the first proper AFLW Fantasy competition, complete with prize money. Fast-forward another year, and there are still no official competitions. But never fear, because we’re back with a new competition!  Prize Pool of $100 has been put up by SCT.  If you’d like to donate more into the Prize Pool, we’d be very appreciative.  Or if there’s a sponsor out there, we’re more than willing to throw in a lot of ‘plugs’ for your company 😉

As with last year, it’s a dead-team competition – you send in your entry before the start of the season, and that’s it. Once the season has started, your team cannot change – hence being considered ‘dead’.

For the most part, the rules are pretty similar to last year:

1. No captains, bench, or emergencies.

2. You must pick 22 players – 6 defenders, 8 midfielders, 2 rucks, and 6 forwards.

3. It should go without saying, but you can’t pick the same player twice.

4. Only one entry per person. Coaches caught attempting to enter multiple teams will be ineligible to win the overall prize. You can, however, alter an existing entry, so long as it is done before the start of the lockout of 6:45 PM AEDT, February 2nd.

5. Team names should be no more than 25 characters. Also, keep it classy – these names are going to be published in leaderboards on this site.

6. The whole of the prize pool will go to the overall winner.

7. The overall winner is deemed to be the person whose team scores the greatest number of points across the home-and-away season. In the event of a tie, the prize will be split evenly between the winners.

Not everything is the same, however. The rules for selecting players have been dramatically simplified: instead of last year’s requirement of having 2 two 5 players from each club, and at least 6 of the previous year’s draftees, we’re having a simple salary cap of $9,000,000.

The scoring system has also changed. This will be explained in full in a separate post later today.

The entry form is attached at the bottom of this post. Send your entry through to: AFLWFantasy ‘at’ outlook ‘dot’ com.

I would strongly prefer it if you could send it as an old-fashioned attachment. If you must send it via some new-fangled cloud service (some email providers may try to make this the default), do make sure to set it up so I can actually access it.

Entries are open now, although you might want to wait until the Round 1 teams have been announced later in the week.

The entry form has been tested and confirmed to work the following spreadsheet programs:

Excel (I tested the Mac and web versions, but there’s no reason why the Windows or mobile versions should treat the file any differently)

● Google Sheets (which also has the nice feature of making the drop-down menus searchable)

● LibreOffice Calc

There is no reason why it shouldn’t work in other programs, but if you decide to use something that is not in the above list, you are responsible for making sure that your entry is both valid and correct.

Entries close at 6:45 PM AEDT, February 2nd.

Let me know below if you have any questions or comments.

  1. Lets hope this year i can pick a dead team where i don’t lose a player after round 1 that just kills off most hope for a great team.
Plus, thanks Salamander for creating this and then working on it even more before the start of the new season, giving the community an even better system that no one else can provide.

  2. Thanks Salamander for all your hard work getting this comp up and running again. I played last year and enjoyed the competition, hoping to finish a little higher this year.

  3. AllSaints has been kind enough to donate $30 (thank you!!) to the Prize Pool so we’re now up to $130 to the Winner! If you’d like to donate/sponsor, then get in touch with me at: schwarzwalder ‘at’ supercoachtalk ‘dot’ com

    1. Due to logistical reasons, we’re just doing a dead-team competition: you send in your team before the round 1 lockout, and that’s it. No trades. Your team stays the same from round 1 to the end of the season.

Hopefully next year I’ll be able to do something a bit fancier.

    1. I’ve gone through the entries I’ve received so far and can’t find one with a coach name ‘Trudge Triumph’. Did your entry get a reply? If not, you may have sent it to the wrong email address.

It’s AFLWFantasy [at] Outlook [dot] com.

  5. Cross-post from the other thread:

    NEW RULES:

#1. If a game is cancelled before it starts and is not re-scheduled, the players named to play that game will be awarded their season average (taken at the end of the season) as their score for that game. If they do not play another game for the season, and thus do not have a season average, they will be awarded the season-average of all players of their *exact* position (e.g. all DEF/MIDs if she’s a DEF/MID, all pure FWDs if she’s a FWD, etc.) to have played at least 1 game for the year as their score for that match.

#2. If a game is abandoned after it has started, and is never completed at a later date, the players’ scores from the period of play that did take place will be scaled to the length of a full match.

#3. In the extraordinarily unlikely event that a game takes place but Champion Data fails to record the data, #1 will apply.

Hopefully none of these will ever have to be applied.
