Team Reveal – Chillo

Written by Chillo on March 5 2020

Here ’tis. Insert the usual disclaimers about rookies yada yada…

DEFENDERS

The Bulldogs favourable early draw has me leaning towards Caleb Daniel at D1, teamed up with everyone’s hyped discounted defenders Houston and Docherty. I’ve gone for Ash and Young because I can easily downgrade them if they don’t make selection, and injuries to Hardwick and Impey open the door for the impressive Greaves. Gould and Bailey J. Williams have been good in the Marsh series and form a solid bench.

I would like to find a way to get James Sicily in there, but I think the only way I can fund it is to find a cheaper alternative at R2. Hmmmm…….

MIDFIELDERS

No mucking around here, I’ve picked five premiums that I reckon will be in the top 10 at the end of the year. Rowell picks himself, and Serong and Green are contested ball beasts that can be downgraded if need be. Pickett should be in every team, and the remaining two spots are placeholders only at this stage.

Josh Kelly is my pick to win the Brownlow this year, but I can’t figure out a way to get him into this lineup…..

RUCKS

Nothing interesting to say about R1, but I’m starting to waver a bit on Max. Hopefully he can put together a nice 120 this weekend and lay all that to rest. Plenty of options at R3 (none of them particularly good) but I’m set on putting a R/F there for the flex so Xerri gets that spot for now.

FORWARDS

The first three players on this line are so vanilla it makes me sick, but I think they’re the best way to go. Hill should do enough to be a viable cash cow. R5 and R6 are the most problematic spots on my team, and will require more thought before that first bounce. Rankine and King sit comfortably on the bench, as they do in most teams I guess.

FINAL COMMENTS

I know ‘POD’ has become somewhat of a taboo word in these parts this year, but I’m a fan of having one or two to start with. Last year Travis Boak was at 2% ownership and was one of my players of the year. I don’t really have anyone like that this year, although Daniel is flirting with PODdom at 7% ownership.
This team will probably change once teams drop and some of my rookies miss the boat, but I have plenty of scope to mix it up so I’m not worried. Bye structure is okay. The biggest problem of course is that I couldn’t find any Swans worthy of a spot!

  1. Looks great Chillo. I read somewhere Daniel played a lock-down roll in M1. I didn’t see the game, but might be something to keep an eye on.

I have the same mid rooks, but feel like Pickett is wasted on the bench, especially with two on field in the forward line.

For example, a combo on field on Sicily (100-105) and Pickett (70-75) probably gets you 170-180 points. Cripps (115-120) and Georgiades (45-55) may be closer to 160-170.

Obviously all depends what you think different players will average, and with so few guarantees in FWD/DEF it’s hard to find four rookie spots on field in the mids.

    1. Thanks Chips. Daniel came into the game nicely in the second half of M1, and the Dogs’ early draw favours him.

Pickett’s form in M1 was underwhelming so I’ve gone a bit cold on him. Still should make a decent cash cow though.

    1. I actually think Rankine is a decent shot at playing round 1. But yeah, if he misses out (depending on how long he’s out for) I’ll go to plan B.

  2. This is a team I can get behind. So similar to mine i had to check my phone wasnt bugged ;).

Love that you have forked out on good rookies.

Nicely done, only major difference is Smith vs parish which Ill make the call on after the last marsh game.

  3. I honestly thought this was my team. I only have 3 players different to you. I just traded Houston to Weller after the China game got cancelled. I’ve got Jelly in my mids instead of Neale, because I also think he’ll win a brownlow at some point. And I’ve got Petracca up forward instead of Dusty, still need to see Petracca playing mid in M2, so might swap him for Parish.

  4. Nice side, very similar to my current set up. Only change I would suggest is an increased risk appetite, but you already seem to be well aware.

That all guns and premium rookies midfield looks phenomenal.

        1. Look at his first 5 ruck match ups: Witts, ROB, Goldy, Nic Nat and Grundy.

          That’s a no from me.

          1. Hmmm Smart, looking at Lycett last year he really did cash in on the poor rucks & was pretty average against the good ones.

        2. As GD said.

I might look at him after he takes a pounding early and Naismith has gone up a bit in price.

  5. Hi Chillo, isn’t it amazing how similar everyone’s team starts to look after all our back and forwards banter. It has to make you think that we collectively may be subconsciously talking all of us to picking very similar teams. I wonder how much 375 supercoaches from supercoach.com would get splitting $50,000? One thing I’ve tried to do that would also work here within your existing budget is to swing Brander down back at the expense of either Ash/Young and to put Swallow in the vacant forward possie. That then gives you a forward/defender switch (Hill/Brander) to add to the others you have. You could even change King to Cameron and get another switch in the Forward/Ruck with Xerri as well. Obviously, the question, will Swallow score similar to Young/Ash if you make the change and will Cameron/Xerri get the game time to match King. Solid line-up mate, good work!

    1. Thanks Snarfy! I assume you mean Sparrow, not Swallow – different kind of bird that one 😉 He’s definitely an option if named for round 1.

I’m not worried about teams looking the same at this stage. The big test is when the witching hour rolls around at 6:30pm Thursday, March 19…..

  6. Nice team Chillo. No controversy pick which is logical and self explanatory. Maybe if you went with 2 of Rowell, Serong and Green you could afford J.Kelly. Personally I thing Oliver is a great pick and will have a great year regardless of early De Boer tag.

  7. Gould is a swan mate so you did find one worthy of a spot, your biggest problem solved 🙂
But I think you have a bigger problem than an invisible swan. with that little amount of cash left you should drop Rivers and Young now and grab a couple who are likely to get a gig round 1 I don’t know who just yet but Tom Willo is loooking fairly safe and he’ll save you 40k or you could just slot brander in there to make room for Buderick on field
I’d probably have Buderick on field in the fwds instead of george or brander and swap rivers to close Close as your mf swing.

      1. Didn’t play Marsh 1 or Marsh 2. Who does he suddenly force out?

I’d rate him as no more than a 2% chance. Similar for Bianco.

  8. Really like this team, It’s not too dissimilar to my own, I’m risking one of Martin or Whitfield so I’ve got Smith at F4 & have Sicily, have Kelly instead of Neale.

Any issue with Houston and the earlier bye?

    1. Yes, there is. I swapped out Houston and Young for Sicily and Starcevich last night for a minute or two, just to see what it looked like. I’ve gone back to the team above though….for now.

      1. If Young isn’t fit for round 1 would you go Sicily and Robertson/Starcevich?

I think Starcevich is close but not quite there yet.
