While not a complete failure, Dangerfield still managed a 111 for most teams as Captain last week. Well done if you had a crack at Jack Steven or Tom Rockliff (or even Big Maxy Gawn) for a few extra pts. In a weekend full of big scores, those extra pts really made a huge difference in the close games. Let’s see who Dangerfield has invited to his table as back-up this week 😉 The invites have been sent out for Rd19 to the following players (as always, players in order of appearance, times are in AEST):
Patrick Dangerfield (GEE) Friday Night 7.50pm (vs Dogs) – Still the #1 SC-scorer with daylight second. Despite having 36 touches against the Crows last week, Champion Data only allocated him 111pts. The Dogs don’t believe in tagging (as seen by Danger’s 173 against them in Rd13) so Dangerfield looks the logical choice as VC on the Friday night. Last five against the Dogs: 173, 114, 101, 86 & 120.
Sam Mitchell (HAW) Saturday Afternoon 2.10pm (vs Carl) – Absolutely carving it up over the last five weeks with scores of 110, 152, 117, 120 & 134. Has helped himself to 25+ disposals in 13 of 15 games this season. Hard to back against him in this kind of form. Last three against Carlton: 125, 105 & 114.
Scott Pendlebury (COLL) Saturday Twilight 4.35pm (vs WCE) – Hasn’t slowed down in racking up the touches over the last three weeks (26, 30 & 30 disposals) but his SC scores haven’t been overwhelming (100, 108 & 115). He’s just about due to go large again. What better chance than the big clash against West Coast, an opponent that he REALLY enjoys playing. Check out these numbers that date back to 2008!! Last TWELVE against the Eagles: 100, 110, 128, 153, 114, 125, 155, 140, 138, 139, 108 & 130.
Max Gawn (MEL) Sunday Early Afternoon 1.10pm (vs Suns) – Third highest SC-scorer who is having a tremendous season. Averaging 118 for the season and a staggering 126 over the last eight weeks!! Clearly the #1 Ruckman this year and no reason he can’t continue on against Gold Coast. Last time against the Suns: 174.
Rory Sloane (ADE) Sunday Twilight 4.40pm (vs Ess) – Before his 83 last week against the Cats, The Sloane Ranger had averaged 113 over the previous 13 games. With a very favorable run home, I expect Sloane to receive a few more invites to the Captains Table in 2016. If you don’t own Max Gawn, then Sloane might be the better option on Sunday. Last time against Essendon: 145.
Josh P Kennedy (SYD) Sunday Afternoon 3.20pm (vs Freo) – Having an amazing run (again) this year, having not scored under 95 since Rd1. Has scored nine tons from the last ten games (other game was a 99!) and averaged 119 in that time. 140 & 127 over the last two weeks make him a decent choice of Captain. Last eight against Freo: 154, 118, 94, 144, 101, 151, 132 & 103.
Tom Rockliff (BRL) Saturday Night 7.25pm (vs PTA) – Always capable of a monster score like last week but just hasn’t shown it as consistently this season (due to injury niggles). Has now managed to string together seven games and has averaged 130.5 in that time. Anyone who can keep up that sort of average is always worthy of an invite to the Captains Table. Probably the best back-up if Dangerfield doesn’t have a night out on Friday. Last four against Port: 41 (injured early), 91, 117 & 111.
There are still many more viable choices of Captain for Rd19, which players did you think were worthy of a mention? Is there anyone you have a good gut feeling about? Be sure to tell your fellow SCT Coaches below. Best of luck getting into your Finals, Coaches!!
