The Fallen Premiums – Rd 16, 2020

Written by Chillo on September 5 2020

Well, thank *** that’s over! Round 15 was pretty gross for a lot of us, desperately trying to scrape together 18 active players and then watching the likes of Dusty, Petracca, Brayshaw and NicNat turn into pumpkins. Fortunately the cavalry arrives today and we’re (almost) back to full strength.

Here are the Fallen Premiums!

DEFENDERS

Shannon HURN (WCE), $410 800 (-$151.4K), avg 86, BE 70 – I think most of us have written off Old Man Hurn this year after he had a career year in 2019, but maybe he’s just taking a little longer than usual to get warmed up? Leaving Optus Stadium was supposed to be the end for him but he had 112 at the Gabba against the Bombers, with 12 marks and 17 typically booming kicks. Super, super cheap for a player of his potential and if you’re strapped for cash (and who isn’t at this time of year?), then your search for a D6 is over.

Tom STEWART (GEE), $497 900 (-$35.3K), avg 95, BE 78 – For those who prefer to play the percentages a little more, Stewart is fresh off the bye and has a SC-friendly run home to help him out (Bombers, Tigers, Swans). With four tons on the trot, his form is impeccable and yet you can still get him for under half a mill! Done.

Backing it up…..
Luke Ryan, $585K, BE 180
Zac Williams, $457K, BE 138

MIDFIELDERS

Travis BOAK (PTA), $535 800 (-$46.5K), avg 107, BE 58 – At 10% ownership, the Port veteran is still getting no respect despite being the tenth-highest scoring midfielder of the year and playing a vital role in the fortunes of the ladder leaders. Faces the struggling Roos tonight before getting the Bombers at home, and then the scoring-friendly Pies in the finals round. Form is good (averaging 122 in his past four games) and still looks as strong as ever at 32 years of age. Could be the early-round POD that gets you the league win this weekend!

Travis and Muppet Robbo

Just quicklyJosh P. Kennedy ($435 000, avg 92, BE 55) and Andrew Gaff ($525 500, avg 105, BE 65) were here last week as proven but under-priced premiums, and each man duly raised the bat with a triple figure score. Both are still available at good value this week.

Limbo land…..
Lachie Neale, $654K, BE 207
Jack Macrae, $673K, BE 167
Jarryd Lyons, $575K, BE 150
Marcus Bontempelli, $670K, BE 145

RUCKS

Max GAWN (MEL), $668 400 (-$28.7K), avg 141, BE 116 – I did a bit of research for the other lines this week, but let’s be frank: the 80% of coaches who don’t boast the Melbourne monolith in the ruck department are all desperately crunching the numbers this week to find a way to change that. Scores of 135 and 150 since returning from knee and upper back injuries indicate that (1) Max is physically fine, and (2) his price tag is of little concern because he is a captaincy option every single week that he plays. Last three opponents for the year are Darcy (FRE), Mumford/Jacobs (GWS), and Draper (ESS), all of whom he should dominate. The only question is where do you get all those dollarydoos from?

Timberrrr….
Nic Naitanui, $594K, BE 186
Todd Goldstein, $527K, BE 163
Tim English, $445K, BE 161

FORWARDS

Toby GREENE (GWS), $439 000 (-$71.1K), avg 90, BE 84 – 105 last week from Greene and once again he played a crucial role in getting his Giants the win. Extremely under-priced but the flag here is that the likely return of Kelly will push Toby back out of the midfield and into the forward pocket. But maybe that doesn’t matter either, the Giants run home including the Crows, Demons and Saints. Huge risk for a variety of reasons, but what else is there but risk at this time of year?

Forward thinking….
Tom Hawkins, $622K, BE 168
Dustin Martin, $528K, BE 166

Christian Petracca, $563K, BE 158
Andrew Brayshaw, $534K, BE 143

Michael Walters, $446K, BE 137

  1. Hats off as always, Chillo.

I’m in the market for a 498k MID to replace Shuey. Looking at McCluggage and Berry given the Lions comparably softer run.

    Anyone have any insights?

    1. We started with McCluggage this season as a POD. Has been OK – some big scores early days, but liable to the odd shocker (60-70 points). Playing in a stacked midfield doesn’t help.

Decent options, Cluggs and Berry. Parker, Shiel, JPK, Cogs and T. Kelly other options too.
