The Fallen Premiums – Rd 20

Written by Chillo on August 7 2019

Trading at this point of the season is either impossible, ie you’ve already spent all those cookies, or relatively straightforward. Break-evens and injury risks fade into insignificance, and it simply becomes a case of picking the best player you can with the cash you have available. But if we assume that cash in in short supply, then who can we pinpoint as that best available option?

Here are the Fallen Premiums!

DEFENDERS

There’s actually not that much to recommend here this week. Rory Laird ($471 900, avg 98, BE 64) has had a down year by his standards, but is still a top 6 defender and managed to tie his best score of the season last weekend. Chances are you’ve already got him though! Kade Simpson ($442 500, avg 80, BE 54) is still good value if you’re looking for a nice cheap POD, averaging 102 in his past three starts.

MIDFIELDERS

Sebastian ROSS (STK), $482 200 (-$76.2K), avg 94, BE 33 – A patchy season from the Saints ball magnet see his scoring down almost 10 points a game on last year’s pace. Something has definitely clicked for Ross with the ascent of Brett Ratten to the head coaching role, pumping out 100 last week after a season high 159 the game previous. Finished 2018 in a blaze of glory (136 ppg in Rounds 20-23), and at this price might be worth a punt to repeat the feat. Saints face Freo, Carlton and Sydney for the final three games of the year.

That’s right ladies, he loves puppies too!

Dustin MARTIN (RIC), $489 000 (-$74.8K), avg 98, BE 54 – Three tons on the trot for the Tigers’ champ, fresh off a season high 138 last week against the Dees. More importantly, Dusty is spending a lot more time in the guts, averaging 34 disposals a game in his past three. Richmond are in the middle of that much-publicised MCG rush to finish their year, so it wouldn’t surprise to see them chalk up a few more W’s in the next three weeks.

Shaun HIGGINS (NTH), $435 400 (-$124.8K), avg 93, BE 55 – Yeah, you heard me. Burnman is back! An AC joint injury kept Higgins out for over a month this year, but 28 possessions and a couple of snags against the Hawks last week just shows that he has not lost any of that class. Very well priced and ignored (somewhat justifiably!) by everyone, with Ben Cunnington drawing the tag seemingly every week now, who else could you possibly want as an M9 loop??!!!

RUCKS

With the Pies clashing with the Dees this weekend, is now the time to pull a strategic luxury trade out of the kitbag? Gawn and Grundy may prove to be the unstoppable force and the immovable object, so a POD such as Goldstein ($621 200, 3 round avg 125) or McEvoy ($524 000, 3 round avg 122) might provide the edge you’re looking for in that crucial finals matchup.

FORWARDS

Mitch ROBINSON (BRL), $467 200 (-$29.4K), avg 92, BE 50 – I’m completely indifferent to the Lions, I don’t really mind either way if they win or lose. But I love Mad Mitch. He’s made an art form of riding that fine line between lunatic and lynchpin, and he’s certainly one of those blokes you’d love to have as a teammate – and hate to have as an opponent. He’s also in good Supercoach form, with three tons in his past four and a 5RA of bang on the ton. The Lions are poised for September, is Mitch poised to be your run home POD?

Just quickly: Tim Kelly ($485 600, avg 104, BE 72) and Isaac Heeney ($492 300, avg 96, BE 74) both tonned up big last week, are both top 8 forwards, and are both available this week for south of half a mill. You’ve probably already got at least one of them, but for those who don’t and instead are among the 15,000+ Caleb Daniel owners, it’s a great time for a straight swap.

  1. Great stuff again Chillo.

Waiting game for me this week. Don’t mind losing my semi-finals. With only two trades left, I think I’m gonna need them for Prelims (and hopefully the odd GF).

    1. I think you are playing me in one final AS.

      Can I borrow a trade!

Mine are all gone now and will have to field Burgess if Lycett misses again.

      1. Learned my lesson last year. NEVER again!
Well never say NEVER, but you know what I mean.

While painful at the time, NOT trading Heeney, Dunkley, Whitfield, ZWilliams, Rockliff and Hore has saved my bacon and three of the first four have actually paid in spades! Should probably have held BSmith (Sicily pfft) and Man of Steele (Jelly) too!!

  2. Brought in Lycett to cover for Gawn a few weeks ago then Boak was a late out giving me a 0 anyway, traded Lycett out last week to Daniel, now I have to trade out Daniel. I was lucky in the first half of the year but the second half has been rough.

  3. With Chol and Clarke unlikely to make BE this week considering them out and Hawkins/Ziebell and Higgins in. Leaves me with 2 trades $14.9k and decent bench cover for the run home. Crazy?

  4. Chillo – I’m not talking to you! Your Macrae captain choice knocked me off in Contribs league by a measly 16 points!!
    Well done!

Good calls with the trade and captain choice! I contemplated Macrae – should have done so! Problem is can’t cover scenarios across all ten leagues!!

    1. How can you possibly have any trades left PJ?!?

Laird is more likely to save you another trade than Lachie, but if you have 3 …

    2. So PJ how many sides are you running?? You seem to have been trading every week since round 3??? Maybe round 1 with corrective trades I remember you mentioning and also max trades through bye rounds?? Seem to have been an awful lot you have made and blokes like Whitfield and Franklin twice and so on … not sure how you have three left??

      1. ha ha ,
maybe you guys should take more care when reading my posts
pretty sure iv’e only stated that i have traded maybe 10 players on this site , & most of them were before the byes
just because someone says that a player is good value doesn’t mean he fits their team structure
& just because they say that they cant wait to trade a player out , doesn’t mean they have
the truth is often the casualty of a persons interpretation , when it comes to what they want to believe
        just ask any religious fanatic

        ready , set , thumbs down 😉

        1. Fair enough PJ. And your SC score updates over the weekend are v handy for those time-poor people.

honestly i am over having to justify everything to you guys

this use to be a fun site for outside the box , free thinking discussion
