The TEAM 2018 – Dangerfield Situation

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 15 2018

Welcome back to the TEAM for another year!  Where our plethora of SC-minds have been united to form the perfect TEAM……….

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Paddy Dangerfield pulled up short after a kick on the weekend and is in some doubt for Rd1 (and maybe more?).  As we have already voted him as a ‘Walk-Up-Start’ for the TEAM, this has presented us with a dilemma.

In past seasons we have applied the rule that: ‘if a player doesn’t line up in Rd1, then they don’t line up for the initial TEAM‘.  That has applied to Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe….all the greats in the past.  Should it apply to DangerMan as well or should we hold him regardless of time frame?  Voting is now open below…………

How does the TEAM approach the Dangerfield Situation?

  1. I feel we would need to have a poll for the potential chance he is named but becomes a late out round 1.
Who will be the one to replace him? There is a limited number of players we could choose from.

So if Danger is a late out who would you want to replace him. Oliver, Duncan Selwood, Parker, JPK

    1. To keep it simple, it should just be whichever one of those guys named finishes highest in the midfield premium poll.

      1. Yep, that’s how it’ll work. I might have to switch things round at the last minute but that’s why we set up the parameters…..

  2. This is s crazy idea but I will put it out three. If Danger is out we could view it as a ‘free hit ‘ – pick and underpriced player such as Coniglio or Petracca or JOM or a rookie – leave cash in the bank. Once Danger is back and looking good, trade him in and maybe we make some cash from the other player.

    1. I kind of agree with this thought. Could bank some serious cash (this depends on the outlook of the rest of the TEAM. All lines.)

I know of the ‘rookie correction trade’. I was thinking, if Danger misses out, he misses out and isn’t in the TEAM. If he is named Round 1 (and we keep him out and straight up downgrade) we could wait and see if he puts up a big score for the first couple rounds.

Downgrading straight up from Danger to Coniglio saves about $300k. If Coniglio hits as a sleeper, sweet. If he doesn’t we can use the funds saved, and 1 ‘premo correction trade’ to bring danger back in before the price change takes effect.

Of course, we need to keep the $ in the bank just for this move. But with the$300k in the bank it gives some serious options. We can use $100k for upgrading some rookies before round 1 (depending who is named, maybe upgrade another midpricer on another line…for example a Sicily to a Heeney). I’m not sure myself entirely. I mean, we are a week away and I just deleted my entire team to start fresh! But suddenly the idea of not starting with Danger (and his pricetag!) is opening a lot of doors!
