The Top Guns

Written by MJ on June 4 2015

The biggest talking point as we approach R10 is no doubt in midfield for very obvious reasons. Contrasting opinions on the Rockliff injury saga was intriguing to note in the poll yesterday. Motts highlighted the best performers in each position in Team of the Week on Monday.

I’ve listed the top 10 scoring midfielders in the poll below (excluding Fyfe). They’ve all scored within 60 points of each other over the entire season so far, so there’s not much in it. I’m giving you the choice of 4, to narrow down the options for those looking at trading one of these guns in for Rocky.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Priddis clearly over his price. Neale going forward will drop price after a couple of games, same too Pendles with injury. Shiel is a bit hit and miss, and Mundy carries the issue of having Fyfe and Neale in the same team.

Danger as top pick after the 188… no surprises.

  2. i am torn between danger and sidebum as my rocky replacement….sidey would’ve made this list injuries aside. I am having to do my trades early this week as going on a fishing trip this weekend so my question is as the pies play the dees, who do you think will cop a tag from vince? i am in a tight h2h and don’t want to bring in sidebum if he the likely recipient of vince’s attention….thanks

  3. Rocky’s value is $480, can’t hold him for 4 to 6 rounds, any suggestions around $500, nice if they are in the same bye week as well, thank you

  4. Personally Pendles, Dangers & Beams the only 3 for my liking….Decisions decisions……I’m leaving room in my midfield for a $470-$480k Sloane, after his R11 bye, hopefully 😉

With Rocky going down for the 2nd time with his rib injury, I’m utilizing the opportunity to bolster my backline that little & also bringing in what I hopefully will use as a solid M9 in the latter time of the season.

    Rocky out > Wallis in
    Oxley out > Gibson in

  6. What are you guys doing to me! I had my trades all planned on Monday, then that changed after a sensational rookie review as was very happy with my trades. Then the fallen premiums come out and my trades have changed once again and I’m even happier, then the Rocky poll comes out along with Cow talk and I’ve decided to cash in on Rocky. Out Rock In Buddy, perfect! Now I’ve seen this article and I have to change it again! Gotta say love this site, and appreciate all the effort everyone goes into to put this work together!

  9. Its probably a bad idea but I want to try and avoid trading Rocky out for another mid that’s going to cost me an extra 50-150k. I’m almost inclined to look in the backline or up front for a player that’s good value and can score well, i.e. Rance, Simpson, Buddy etc. Someone like Rance is currently 450k and will likely be a top 6 defender so should be a good addition to my team. He doesn’t have the same potential as Rocky but I could use the extra 30k to help turn a midfield rookie into a premium during the byes. The above could even apply to a Rocky to B Smith trade in R12… Maybe I’m off the mark but it seems ok to me in theory.

  10. Mundy clearly suffering from the lack of exposure outside WA. If not for his injury-affected 87, he’d likely be the number 2 scorer this year to date, behind Fyfe. He shouldn’t be the POD he’s proving to be.

  11. Im thinking about holding rocky, purely for the fact that the byes are right here.
Got bench coverage in Miller but then the next 3 weeks after this are the bye rounds. I’m not suffering to hard from the byes as I have traded properly regarding the bye rounds.
What im saying is that I am only missing out on 2.3 games without rocky… think i can afford to keep him

  12. Thoughts on Montagna/Jack as a replacement for Rocky? Only concern for Montagna is his age + durability & for Jack is having too many other players stealing points off him eg. Kennedy, Hannebery, Parker, Mitchell..

Furthermore, who would be the best bet out of Sidebottom, Hannebery & Beams as a top end midfielder?
