Thursday Night Footy?

Written by MJ on June 25 2015

Every season we get the odd Thursday night fixture thrown into the schedule, however this year we’re being treated (or tormented) to four on the trot, with not only the R12 and R13 bye rounds, but R14 and R15 will also include the mid-week match.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I like them from an entertainment / something to watch perspective. From a fantasy perspective, if the AFL are going to have them they need to push up the team announcements (across all games) to Wednesday..

Actually, I think given the size of the gambling/fantasy industries now, and their impact on viewer numbers/advertising, the AFL would do well to revisit their whole team/injury reporting structure, and model it more on something like the NFL (i.e. daily reports of ‘probable’/’questionable’/’doubtful’/’injured’)

  2. I had it in my head today was Friday, so I’ve come to work in casual clothes thinking “Yay, casual Friday!”. I blame the footy!

Otherwise I don’t mind Thursday night footy. Just annoying for Supercoach.

  3. Worried that the AFL will go over board with it in the years to come and it’ll become an every week fixture. Personally think a few here or there works well and it needs to be a game which is of interest to the general football populous.

  4. I hope it is an every week fixture, makes more sense than a Monday night game. It also matches the extended trade period of all shops being open on both Thursday and Friday nights. It’s a no-brainer for me.

Note: The extended trade period I refer to is for Victorians, I am not sure what the other states have exactly so that would have to be taken into consideration also when scheduling the fixture..

  5. Surely it’s all about T.V rights & $$$$$$

As a young family man, Thursday night & Sunday twilight games are terrible for us. It feels more & more like the AFL don’t give a rats about young families going to the footy anymore.

Friday night, Saturday day/twilight & night & Sunday games are all easy for my situation, so I’m fine with the occasional Thursday night game!
