Trade Or Hold – Rd16

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 3 2018

This one effects 56.7% of all teams……..Nat Fyfe.  Unfortunately for Fyfe owners, he limped off the ground yesterday with a hamstring injury.  Officially he’s ‘certain to miss Rd16 with the prospect of more to come’.  That leaves 56.7% of Coaches in an awkward position.

Should we cut our losses and trade Fyfe for a fellow premium?  It is, after all, nearly Finals time.  Can you afford to have Fyfe sitting on the bench for so long and still make Finals?  Or are you going to hold and hope for a speedy return?

What to do with Nat Fyfe (FRE)?

  1. Depends how long he’s out, how many trades you have, and your ladder position in your main league.
I’d trade if you needed to win most of your remaining matches to make finals, if you were pushing for overall, or if you had 9+ trades left.
But if it’s only a week or two, you’d just hold unless desperate

  2. If he’s pinged a hamstring he’ll be gone for a month. Not sure you’d want the best part of $600K sitting on the bench for the most part of the season.

  3. My worry is the level he returns at whether it be in 2 or 4 weeks time. I jumped on matt crouch a few weeks after his return from a hamstring injury and it took him until the last couple of weeks to get back to his best.

  4. I’m ranked around 10,000~, so purely focused on league glory (in a paid league).
I’m currently 9-4, and full premo with 6 trades left.

Considering the above, I will hold. I have Boak as my M9/F7 for coverage. And Ahern to cover Heeney if he is also out this week.

  5. Have 9 trades remaining so I’m making the move! I can afford anyone.

Current Mids: Titch, Cripps, Fyfe, Danger, Zerrett, Parker, Coniglio. Dusty
    TU: Josh P Kennedy
    TD: Josh Kelly
Also looked at Matty Crouch as POD.
Comment any other insightful ideas 😀

  6. Got 7 trades atm and am technically full premo however this full premo team includes dusty, rocky and de goey (dont ask). Its a tough one as i was hoping to use my remaining trades to either replace the above guys or bring in additional mid/fwd to loophole with them

  8. no one talking about Heppell this week , 474 with a low BE , looks like 1 of the best mid bargains of the year ..
Crouch’s price wont change much this week playn tigers @ the G , so contemplating
    Holman to Heppell &
    Ainsworth to Mclean

  9. I have a rather nifty swinging bench-cover system that would normally allow me to cover him without fielding a rookie, but with Heeney out this week that won’t work.

Fremantle’s lack of transparency on this is really making things difficult. If it is just one week, or even two, then I can deal with that. Hell, even three weeks is probably fine as long as I don’t get any other injuries (Heeney is only out for one week, so it would only be this week that I would have to field a rookie). But if it’s going to be 4, 5, or 6, I’m going to want to move him on.

    1. The general assumption is that he’ll miss at least a few weeks, but Fremantle has been tight-lipped thus far.

    1. Fyfe update – “We know how professional Nat and Aaron are, so we see Nat’s injury being a four to five-week injury to the hamstring,” general manager of football operations Chris Bond said. Source: AFL web site.

  10. Fyfe out for 4-5 weeks means we need to trade him but who comes in? Schwarz, any chance we can have a poll to help with this?

    1. I am considering Neale (strong form), Gaff (outside game concerns me), Duncan (consistency) or Crouch (would like to see another big score). At this stage I am leaning towards Neale – been strong all year, five upcoming games at home, and his best year was when Fyfe missed almost the whole season. Btw I will aim for one of the other three next week when I do my final mid upgrade.

      UP – Fyfe to Neale
      DN – reconsider

        1. I like JPK too. My concern is a number of very low scores early this year and last year too. Not sure I trust him atm.

          1. don’t believe in previous years history as a factor for trading in fantasy players , but if I did JPK would be the man @ this time of the year ..

  11. Like the SC Community thoughts on this, playing just one league (bragging rights) and so far haven’t dropped a game, but the next three weeks the are top 4 clashes – and they are improved.
6 Trades left was hoping to hold until finals. $187K
Mids were set until Fyfe, so now I am thinking going hard and trading
    OUT – FYFE and DUSTY
leaves me $1,220K to then pick 2 premos
TU: Yes – GAFF and J KELLY
TD: “watch you talkin about willis”

    1. if yr not worried bout rank , only playn 1 league & yr top with “only” 6 trades left id hold trades , even hold fyfe , u may pull out the wins anyway , trade fyfe during a lockout only if u need to , Kelly wont go up that much so you can grab him whenever , remember that top 4 all get double chance in finals , hopefully your opponents will have used all their trades by then tryn to stay in the top 4 ..
