      1. Thanks Schwarzwalder, I was going to post this qu. somewhere about the logic of holding SPP over the byes. Wondering if Geelong for example may swing the rookie axe, so warm bodies may be gold. So… SPP to be a sacred cow for my bench…

    Got a bunch of cruddy rookies to get rid of; I think I’ll just put pictures of Hampton, Otten, WHE, Butler and Stewart on a dartboard and see what happens.

          1. Click trade on Williamson or Stewart, click on the big S beside Berry’s name in the midfield (if using a PC, not a mobile device) which will move him into defense, then select Myers to trade into your midfield.

    1. I’d go Butler to Myers if you have the DPP to do it.
      Butler is about to start losing money whereas SPP won’t with his bye and will be valuable during the other three bye rounds.

      1. At $460K, he’s still reasonably affordable; it just depends on whether or not you think he represents value for money at that price. He should average 90+ from here on in, so assuming that there is no one better available at that price point, I’d say it’s a reasonable move.

        P.S. I’m not the same Jack who posted the question. I’m the coach of The Salamander.

    1. You trade out Butler, then hopefully you have a DPP (dual position player – in this case a MID/FWD player) that you can move from mids to forwards to cover the trade out of Butler, leaving you a mid position to trade in Myers.

    1. You trade out Butler, you then move Balic from your midfield to the forwards by clicking on the giant S (substitute) beside his name, enabling you to trade in Myers to your mids.

  36. Struggling to generate dollars to get to real premos. Probably chasing last week’s points but is Michael Walters worth a trade-in for Houston. He is around $380k.
    Maybe Huttabito or Freo Tragic can give me some advice on his role ? If Stepen Hill is back soon, does that change anything ?

    1. Gets thrown into the mids every year for a period and looks great. Happened last year and I picked him up in fantasy, low BE and all, but left a sour taste in my mouth very quickly as he was thrown back into the forward pocket again. It’s a no from me.

      Can always sit tight and hold trades waiting for a bit more cash so you can get the real premos. Makes a difference when you have them for 13 weeks as opposed to someone like Walters for 15.

      1. Still an option, but if you wait til after his bye you could be forking out another $40-60k compared to his current price of $490k.

        You will have Buddy as another Sydney forward should you want to go that way after their bye. He’ll probably be $20-50k cheaper than Heeney as his big 160 point game cycles out of his rolling average after this week. He’ll go up a chunk this weekend and then either plateau or drop a little.

    1. McNiece for Essendon (Defender, $102k) if he’s named. Played rounds 5 and 6, but was dropped/rested/managed in Round 7 and didn’t return for Round 8.

      Sam Durdin for North Melbourne (Forward, $123k). Has played the last two rounds, only scoring in the 40’s so not sure he’s going to be a critical rookie.

      Those two and Myers are pretty much it this week. Scheer is another mid from Gold Coast, two games played for 45 and 27 points. Has the BYE this week though.

    1. Heeney now, keep your eye on Macrae as a late-season luxury swap for Steele, or bring him in for a rookie and push Steele to the bench to cover your mids and forwards through finals.

      Macrae will put up a low score at some point which will give you an opportunity to pick him up cheaper.

      Gotta be pretty frugal this year with quite a few underwhelming rookies.

    2. I have the exact same forwards as you. Was planning on bringing in lynch after his Bye as my final forward but I think I might wait till after rd 11 and nab whoever of heeney / macrae is cheaper by then. As BBalls said you can get the other one at a later date for Steele (or franklin if they both continue their current output).

    Need to get parson out of my FWD line, cant keep coping his 10-40 scores on the field. I Have 98k ITB, would love to get Heeney, but think I have to punt Treloar to do so (Which i’m not against)

    1. A couple of options:

      (If McNiece and Balic are named)
      Hannan out.
      Balic forward.
      Berry mid.
      McNiece in.
      Gives you a bank of around $195k, use half of that to upgrade WHE to Heeney.

      (If McNiece isn’t named, but Balic is)
      Hannan out.
      Balic forward.
      Myers in.
      Gives you a bank of around $163k, use $95k of that to upgrade WHE to Heeney).

      (If Balic isn’t named, but McNiece is)
      Otten out for McNiece.
      Newman on field.
      Gives you about $355k to upgrade Eddy to Heeney.

  51. Considering James Stewart, McInnes and Daniel Lloyd all look like decent downgrade options who will be on bubble at same time is it worth bringing one of them in early?
    Thinking of going Williamson and Butler to McInnes and Myers this week and then two more downgrades next week to Stewart and Lloyd to build the warchest for the byes (want to get Doch and two of Neale, Martin, Bont, Sloane in team).

    1. Pederson is definitely scoring well for the moment, but I think his scoring will drop off (or he’ll be dropped entirely) once Spencer and Gawn come back. Either way, come finals time you won’t want him in your team.
      Given he’s already priced at 408k – he’ll probably only make another 50k-100k at very most, which isn’t enough to be trading him in purely for cash generation.

      1. I’m thinking of trading him in more so because my forward line is kind of in trouble, and finding cheap forwards who score even adequately is turning pretty much impossible. The first of 4 or 5 rounds I was struggling with keeping my defenders and midfielders backed up with so many injuries and not making the sides. The last few weeks have really messed up my forward line, because I’ve had to take care of my other areas beforehand.

        In the coming weeks, I do plan on downgrading a few players on my mid and defence benches. Also Spencer is still at least about 4-5 weeks away, so I’d say this trade option could work out if Cam continues in scores well, certainly a potential POD in the next few weeks (better than having Butler anyway. By the time the byes have ended, I’ll hopefully have enough cash to get someone better when I get rid of him, through downgrading others.

        1. Corey, I don’t know how many trades and how much cash you have.
          But anyway, Witts has been a consistent performer and has a BE of just 43 – I would keep him throughout the bye period. I would swing Nank into ruck this week to cover Witts’ bye.
          IMO, you should look at upgrading your rookies before making luxury trades like upgrading Witts.

          I agree it’s time for Butler to go. You could swing Taranto to FWD and downgrade Butler to Myers.
          This might also give you enough money to upgrade Taranto to a premium FWD if you wish.

          1. I like Butler->Myers too Steve. Leaves Taranto, Parsons and Durdin on field for this week but all should play. I would look at using the money to turn Hampton into a premium defender pending team announcements and if there’s any holes.

          2. If I haven’t used any trades, I will have 18 left, with $235k to spare.

            One big problem though if I do all you said, is that there is a good chance I may not have 6 forwards to use.
            The only way I can switch Nank into the ruck is if I put Darcy Cameron into the forward. Knowing john Longmire, he’ll never pick this kid to play, so there go Cameron to play this week. Butler, Parsons and Durdin I think all have a good possibility of getting dropped. Durdin I think most certainly will get the boot with Waite coming back in. Parsons had an absolute shocking last two weeks. Butler is the only one out of those 3 I can see staying in. Knowing Chris Scott, he won’t give Black a go either. So I reckon there WILL be at least Cameron, Durdin and Black who will miss getting selected. Parsons with a good chance of getting dropped too and Butler not coming up with the scores he should be.

            If I move Taranto into the forward and trade in Myers for Butler, that will STILL leave me with 4 forwards possibly not playing. Regardless of whether I upgrade him or not. I also won’t have any MID/FWDs in my midfield if I do that, so when the byes come around I’m pretty much screwed. Sorry if I’m sounding a little cranky towards your last reply, but I’m having troubles trying to figure how that’ll work and it’s driving me bloody mad.

            What I’m wanting is to STRENGTHEN my forward line, not weaken it. Even if Parsons and someone else plays, I’d say it would be 90-95% likely that they’ll score the same dodgy scores. If that outcome I mentioned before in any way happens, and I follow your directions, I’m going to have a donut, the big zero next to at least one of my forwards on field. This is the main reason why my team has been failing for the last couple of weeks, my forward line has been crumbling. I had to take care of my MIDs and DEFs prior to the last two weeks because they were about to crumble themselves. But as I tried to fix that up, my forward line started to get messed up with people getting dropped, injured or suspended. My current top 3 forwards are the only ones who haven’t missed a game yet and have been consistently getting good scores. I am at the stage where I have to lift my team’s score up now, otherwise my whole season is FARKED from here onwards until the season is over.

            If I had 4 or 5 of the forwards who can play as forwards, that won’t be called to play in their respective teams this week, what I should I do? Trade in players who can play, or just take zeros and call this week (at least) quits?

            1. Corey mate, it seems as though you have 2 choices:
              A) Take a donut or two this week and focus towards building a stronger team at the end of the season
              B) Avoid a donut at all costs by making trades like Pedersen, who is only a short-term solution.

              What choice you take depends on your goals: Are you in a cash league and looking to make finals/win the league, or are you chasing a high overall ranking?
              If you are focused on your league and are currently well placed, you might be better taking a loss this week and thinking with a more long-term perspective.
              If you desperately need a win, then I agree that Pedersen is an option to potentially avoid a donut. But by doing this you are burning trades, as Pedersen will eventually need to be upgraded or downgraded.

              In either case, you can’t really make a final decision until the teams are named and you know the availability of Durdin,Black,Butler and Parsons – if Butler, Durdin and Parsons are all dropped, then you’re looking at a donut regardless of what you do.

              An alternative to my above suggestion would be:
              1 – Downgrade Hampton to McNiece if he is named. (giving you 420k~)
              2 – Swing Nank to ruck, to avoid a donut there.
              That leaves you with a FWD line of: Yeo,JJK,Dahl,Butler,Parsons,Durdin,Black,Cameron.
              3 – (Hope that 2 of Butler, Parsons, Durdin and Black are named)
              4 – Upgrade a FWD who isn’t playing for a premium. If you traded out black for example, then 198k + 420k is enough to get Bont in your MIDs (by using DPP to put Taranto FWD)

    2. You’re in a bit of strife there, Bradley.

      You should be able to upgrade Newman using half of your kitty (about $100k) when he tops out in price around his bye.

      So you’ll have $100k left. and two rookies to upgrade (Barrett + Myers). Both will likely top out around $280k, so they’re going to need $250-300k each for the upgrades depending on whether or not you can find some bargain premiums that you like.

      Call it $550k required for the upgrades, $100k left after your Newman upgrade…you need to find another $450k. Stewart will give you about $140k when he’s traded in, but O’Connor ($0), Fisher ($100k), Pickett ($40k), Wigg ($0), Strnadica ($0), Eddy ($20k) and Parsons ($90k) still leave you with a shortfall of at least $60k.

      Depending on how many trades you have left, I’d spend the next few weeks on rookie watch, and grab anyone who looks like they’re going to make money, and hope like hell that guys like Eddy and Pickett get another few games somewhere along the line. Keep building your bank and make sure you have enough funds on hand to pounce on the fallen premiums when they bottom out (ie Pendles in a few weeks).

    He finally toned up again last week and is only 510K.
    Does he look to be over his injury issues? Not seen him play this week, but want to try and get back on him as at some point he’ll be back to how he started off in the first 3 games before his injury.

    TU: Get Dusty in, he’s over injury issues and will come good.
    TD: Nah, forget Dusty this year if you don’t have Bont, T.Mitchell.

With Champion Data having cracked down on our usual practice of putting midfielders in our forward lines, a lot of us have had success playing ruckmen as forwards instead this year (Nankervis, Pedersen, etc.). Obviously, I wouldn’t bring him in this week, but Ryder is averaging 93, and is priced at just $493,300.

    Now, people might be tempted to point out that his average could be inflated somewhat by his good form over the last couple of weeks; however, if you remove his best (139) and worst (75) scores, his average is still 93. It seems likely, then, that he should continue to score well, just so long as Matthew Lobbe doesn’t rear his head. He’d be a great asset during the byes, too.

    I started with Gawn & Grundy, moved Nank up & sold Gawn after injury.

    Is it too early/late to trade Nank-Martin or wait for Gawn to return considering his price will fall even further ??
    If I take Martin now, failing an injury I’ll run home with him & Grundy. ( hopefully without Cox )

    1. Gotta hold Nankervis. He’s the 6th highest averaging, multiple game Forward at the moment. Definitely a keeper on this position based on that let alone his great bye and ability to cover the rucks.

    Td: trade preuss out for strndinac/ Cameron move Nank in his place and buy in Myers to have more money in bank

    Trade 1 – Otten into Premo Def
    Trade – Beams, Powell-Pepper or Fox into Myers

    Any ideas about which player to get downgraded would be fantastic

    1. Out of those 3 players I would choose Fox to downgrade. With Sydney starting to build up form it will be hard for him to break back into the side again and even if he does his job security will be very shaky.
      Powell-Pepper will be handy to have as cover over the main bye rounds (Rds 11 – 13) and he should be able to make a bit more coin before you offload him.
      Beams you should definitely keep now that Rocky’s out, as he should be back if not this week then most likely next week, and should score well providing he doesn’t re-injure himself!
      Which premo DEF do you have in mind to bring in?

  78. Hey guys just looking for some opinions. I have 17 trades left (after using 2 more again this week). My strategy in burning so many trades is simple. Rookie cash generation. I have gotten on most if not all of the best cash cows, and gone one up one down each week (Apart from rd 1/2). So far I have 16 genuine keepers in total, with Sandilands and WHE both my midpricers who will be culled at some stage post BYE. So realistically I have 6 more upgrades to do (Sloane, Rocky, Gawn/Other, Rance/Simpson/Lloyd/Roberton, Riewoldt) until my team is set. Ranked around 5k but I think that will get slimmer given I have smashed the trade button early. More Premos usually means more points. Its a risky move but one which I back given that in the foreseeable future there are not many rookies which are on their way.

    Is 17 trades left risky given I have 16 Uber Premos?

  80. New to this SC stuff this year

    I have a number of DPP but all in defence and forward line ATM. My feeling is i should have some in my midfield too, for flexibility in trades etc

    Any recommendations strategy wise? In other news I only have 17 trades left!
