Trade Talk – The GF

Written by Motts on August 24 2015

Well, here we are. The last round of 2015. If you’re reading these words, well done on making it this far.

The big question this week is: will Nat Fyfe get a week? Even a fine for Fyfe means automatic suspension and no Charlie. Three fines equals a week. Wouldn’t that blow the Brownlow betting wide open?

The second big question is: how many weeks will Hodge get? It looked ugly and regardless of Wingard playing on, even Hawks supporters will admit it’s worth at least 1.

For the last time this year, who’s in and who’s out?

  1. Is it just me or is Wingard becoming very theatrical when he is bumped/tackled?

I’m not sure on the hodge one – the intention to bump was there and there’s no doubt he made some contact, but Wingard went down like he’d been shot after hitting the post.

Noticed Wingard staging for a free kick (which he incorrectly won) in a recent game as well – might be learning a few tricks off ‘WantsFrees’ Monfries.

Sounds like hodge will either get off or get two weeks, no middle ground as he cant plead guilty due to bad record.

  2. With 2 trades left and Titch and Wines on the pine (would have been great bench cover!!!), I’m hoping my Cash League opponent has no trades left, as he has Titch, Fyfe and Hodge as well!

As it stands, if he has no trades, his bench options are J. Kolodjashnij and S. Colquhoun in DEF, J. Steele, A. Boston & E. Kavanagh in MID and R. Tarrant and O. Fantasia in FWD.

My bench cover is no good unfortunately, but I do have 2 trades, so from my point of view, it would be ideal if those 3 are out and then I can bring in some gun replacements for Hodge and Fyfe.

Sadly the only major GF I’m in, my opponent only has Fyfe affected, so in some ways it would be great for Hodge to be cleared and Titch to comeback.

But I think winning my money back in the Cash League Minor GF is more of a priority, that and racking up some decent scores this week and next week to push for an unlikely top 10,000 finish… I’m a distant 255 points away!!

  3. Gday everyone

I have managed to keep two trades and a war chest of $390K, and assuming that Fyfe gets off and Hodge goes (which is a big assumption I know!!), I just want to trade in the best scoring defender and forward for this week:

My current defenders are H Shaw, Hodge, Gibson, Newnes, K Kolod, Ibbotson (B Smith, Hurley – Frem for loophole)

My current forwards are Gray, Deledio, Dusty, Swan, Goddard, Bont (Lambert, Deluca – Frem for loophole).

DEF – Am thinking either Houli or Enright in for Hodge or B Smith in defence. I want to keep Ibbotson for the captaincy loophole. FWD – And maybe get Titch (if he plays) for Lambert in the forward line, so I can then loophole Bont versus North / Ben Jacobs (and play Titch if Bont goes ordinary).

But would really appreciate any other thoughts from this great community? Thanks.

  4. I have come from 5th to make the grand final this week.

My opponents team looks like and I don’t know how many trades that he has left:
Def: Shaw, Hodge, Rance, Newnes, Murphy, Yeo (Pearce and Edwards)
Mids: Dangerfield, Selwood, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Hannebery, Lewis, Bontempelli, Cripps (Dawson, Steele, Kavanagh)
Rucks: Exact same as me, so there is no difference here.
Forwards: Swan, Deledio, Martin, Gray, Higgins, Goddard (Goddard, Dale)

My side looks like, with 2 trades and 32,500:
Def: Shaw, Murphy, TMac, Birchall, Burgoyne, Smith (Goddard, Edwards)
Mids: Pendlebury, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Hannebery, JPK, Treloar, Sloane, Rockliff (Dawson, Smith, Paine)
    Rucks: Same as above.
Forwards: Martin, Swan, Gray, Dahlhaus, Bontempelli, TMitch (Daniel, Lamb)

    My question.
    Who wins it from here?
And what do I need to do to secure a win this week? I am assuming that everyone is named for me this week, meaning that I was thinking that I would possibly move Treloar/Hannebery on and get someone in good form and maybe upgrade Smith if theres cash left over. Any other suggestions?

  5. In finals. Probably got a full squad with one trade and no cash. Wanting to get yeo out but quite slim pickings. Should I just keep him?

  6. 1 trade left 44k

Cant afford Shaw for Hodge :((

I have come down to 6 options haha

Who would you choose for Hodge and which one will score most points in last two games?

    t/u Houli

    t/d Enright

Comment: T Mcdonald, R Murphy, Burgoyne, Gibson

  7. Hi guys! Last game of the year, Grand Final Week!

Here is the team so far:

DEF: Shaw, Houli, Higgins, Hodge, Newnes, B. Smith (Malcho, S. Hurley)
MID: Pendles, Danger, Priddis, Fyfe, JPK, Jelwood, Deledio, Rockliff (Lambert, O’Brien, Steele)
    RUC: Goldy, Martin (O’Brien)
FWD: Martin, Swan, Gray, Goddard, Bartel, Titchell (H. Goddard, Dale)

I have two trades left, with 114.1k in the bank.

Hodge has to go, so I’m thinking about bringing in Picken provided that he’s fit to play. I also need one last fix somewhere else; any suggestions? DPP is really restricting my moves at the moment.

Any thoughts on perhaps bringing in a forward who could really go big, particularly this week? JJK, Roughhead, Cloke, Hawkins?

Thanks for a great year everyone!

  8. Any news on Titch?

1 trade left and $83k in the warchest.. Hodge has to go – likely going Houli.

I am just livered at how Yeo has performed over the past month.. he’s really stinking it up in a BIG way.

  9. $70k to play with. Fielded Hugh Goddard last week due to injury carnage so I need another Defender. Looking to trade my worst performing Mids/Fwds which is probably Brendon Goddard or Boomer

Current Def: H.Shaw, Houli, Simpson, Hurley, Laird

    T/U Enright
T/D Picken (traded him out last week)
