Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows
Hi Everybody!
I think last week went to his head.
He’s got that “About to perform look”
The little sailor suit is a clue.
…oh no, he hasn’t discovered sea shanties has he?
Squeak matey!
To the tune of what do you do with a drunken sailor!

My!
Not exactly Shakespear
Rather the opposite.
He did cover the options. Dodgy rookies are very annoying, and there are a lot of them running around.
Or not running around, most likely.
And more on the horizon, I see’s ‘em in my spyglass!
You do, who are they?
Too far away to make out, but some of them’s we’re bringing in now, they’ll be dodgy rookies as well. Mark my words!
Yeah, true enough. So, what do you do with a dodgy rookie?
Well, a lot of the time, nothing. If they have no cash to extract and are not playing, then they are now a perma-loop. Of course it could be that you have multiple perma-loops in the same line, in which you may need to trade one out if you can’t use DPP to fix that problem. We should have one playing backup for Defense, Midfield, and Forward. Trades are too valuable to use to bring in a spare backup.
On the other hand, if you are struggling to field 18 over the byes, then, trading out a non-playing guy for someone likely to keep his job probably is worthwhile. Could be 100+ points over the next five rounds, and could be a backup after the byes.
If they are playing, but are not playing well, then they are a backup. Maybe not the best backup, but still, 30 points is better than no points. Slap the E on them and hope you don;t need them.
(Pro-Tip, you will need them)
If they have made some cash, you can trade up from down or try to harvest them. That’s super situational. Might be crucial long term to get $40,000 some week. Hopefully not, hard to spend a trade to get a small amount of cash, but it can happen that is needed. Might go along with the byes.
That’s all pretty obvious.
Yeah, fair. The other side is maybe more important. When bringing in a cow or cow-like object, you should have a plan for what to do if they go “Full Sullivan” on you. This is where price point comes in.
Rules of Cowquisition?
Indeed, Rule Number Twelve: “A cheap cow that loses his job is a loophole. A high priced cow that loses his job is a source of funds. A mid-priced cow that loses his job is a problem.”
If you bring in a guy for $99k and he loses his job, then there is no money at all to get out and you have a loophole.
If you bring in a $200k guy who loses his job, you can upgrade or downgrade him. It is worth a trade to get $100k+ from a dead rookie, especially if you can bring in a playing one.
The problem is with guys who are prices around $160k. A trade down won’t get much cash, and they are hard to trade up from. There is a good chance the end up an expensive loophole.
So avoid those guys?
Not like as a rule, but if a rookie has bad job security, I’d be more careful paying up for him.
How about Cow-like objects? Say, hmm…McAuliffe or Sheldrick?
Ok, first, Cow Talk and the Cow Talk Advisory Panel is in no way advocating anyone bringing in McAuliffe or Sheldrick. Just being clear. Ask people familiar with them and their teams about them, not us, we’re going full Sergeant Schultz on them. But if you did bring one in for about $230-270k-ish, and something went horribly wrong and they only went up by $10,000, then you could certainly trade up from them, and it would be possible to get a trade’s worth of cash out of them.
Good right?
Yeah, but not as good as getting someone who scores as well for $100,000 less in the first place. Then if they fail you have the cash without using a trade. That is better.
Ohhhh
So, good luck with the byes, and be careful who you bring in. Odds are they are staying with you, but be sure you have a way out in case they have to go.
Defenders
Z Reid: Injured. At least at a high price.
Trainor: Well, he will probably bleed cash. Not for sure, but probably. But, he will play this round and could be kept as a warm body.

Last Week: Hold until he has made money. He seems too good to be held down for a long time. Well, he plays for the Eagles, so, maybe they will find a way.
This Week: He found a way. His price is so low it hardly matters. I plan to hold him to his bye, at least, in the hopes he plays. No money there to harvest, and you could cull the non-playing Hustwaite for about the same cash, if you need that.

Rerun from last week: Has a job, has DPP, Has Job Has DPP, Warm body in the byes, warm body in the byes, but looks like he will never make money. He will some day, but man, he so rarely puts up a score that you want on field. I was expecting to give up on him, but he may be a needed warm body, and he can’t lose too much cash, knock on wood. Another I feel you get rid of now or hold to his bye.
Added this week: If he is player 18, then whatever he scores counts. If he is player 19 he might count and as we just saw, you might need a 35 to cover an injury. If you don;t need him to make 18-19,, then do whatever.

Dodgy Advice: ….um….Unless you are doing really well, this is a great time to buy underpriced players. Cow, Cow-like Objects, Fallen premiums, whoever will get the most points / dollar. Fallen is relative of course, I will sure went to try and get Bonmt next week, and I hope we are all trageting Butter when he hits bottom, but there are or will be others. Compromises are probably going to be needed to get 23 preimum-ish players, like holding Ned Long as M8 for example.
Remember the Cow Talk guarantee: “All predictions wrong or triple your money back!” (Offer not valid if money is actually involved.)
I am time zonally challenged. When Cow Talk goes live, I’m probably asleep, so replies from me may take a while.
Thanks for reading!
Hahaha, that ditty was great!
