Kyle Langford was sent for scans over the weekend, which confirmed a quad strain that will delay his return to play by several weeks.
Darcy Parish scans have confirmed that Parish has sustained a minor strain to his calf and will also miss this weekend’s game. Similarly, a return to play timeline is yet to be determined.
Jayden Nguyen is set to return to play in a week’s time as he recovers from a foot injury sustained earlier in the season.
Harrison Jones and Ben McKay continue to make steady progress in their recoveries, with both players in the early reloading phase of their programs, based on what their respective injuries are able to tolerate. Return to play timelines remain undefined.

Alex Pearce and Sam Sturt “They need to get through this week of training and will be a test to play.”
Liam Reidy Ribs “We’re going to see how he trains on Thursday and that will determine his availability.”
Will Brodie will spend another week under the concussion protocols.
“He’s (Brodie) been a little bit slower than we’d like and obviously with a concussion there’s a no-risk (policy),” Merriman said.
“He’s going to be out for at least another week.”
Nat Fyfe suffered a moderate-grade calf injury during the halftime warm-up. 2 Weeks.
Michael Walters knee “It’s really a week-to-week proposition with Sonny, and we just have to track that and see how he goes this week at training to determine his availability.”
Hayden Young hamstring surgery early in May. “He’s entered the football program and he will be a couple of weeks away, which is great to see.”

HAWTHORN
Jack Scrimshaw – hamstring (test)
“He fully trained on Saturday and fully trained today. We expect him to train again on Thursday so it’s looking really positive for this weekend.”
James Sicily – hip/ abdominal (test)
“Similar to Scrimshaw, he fully trained on the weekend. We got some great volume out in training off the back of modified training last week. We did all of our session today and we expect him to fully train again on Thursday and then we’ll make a decision on Thursday around his availability this weekend.”
James Worpel – quad cork (test)
“He’s tracking really well. He trained fully today and we expect he’ll fully train Thursday and be available this weekend. We got him back into some training last week in our main session. He’d been out for a period of time with this severe corky. To give some context to that, we had to have it drained twice over a fortnight. In the initial incident, there was a burst blood vessel which contributed to the severe bleeding of the cork. There’s some history of these with other players in the past couple of years where it takes a bit longer than you would expect and this one certainly did. Just given the amount of pooling and bleeding in his quad and what we had to have done to drain it and then there was the case of then being able to resume some form of conditioning and training. We were back and able to do some training last week and then on the weekend, he had a really good session last Saturday and that confirmed we were on the right track to resume full football training this week. We expect him to play this weekend.”
Bodie Ryan – clavicle (2-4 weeks)
“(His rehab) is going beautifully, he’s conditioning really well. As I mentioned last week, he’s not into contact training yet but getting much closer. We’re looking at Round 19 of AFL, which I think is Round 17 of the VFL, as his return. He’ll be missing two more games then returning in the third week to match play.”
Will Day – foot (3-5 weeks)
“He’s tracking well. He joined in training today and did two drills in our session today and did some conditioning off the back of that as well so we’re now at the stage where we’re building his participation in drills. That will be carefully done over the next three weeks with the view of the Round 20 AFL game being the week he returns to match play.”
Josh Weddle – back (TBC)
“Josh post-game flagged that he had some back soreness and was quite sore during the game, which came on quite quickly. We certainly didn’t have any warning of this prior to the game. We sent him for scans yesterday and that’s shown that he has some bone stress in his back so that means he’s going to miss a little bit of time now. We’re going to have to de-load for a short period of time and then reassess towards the later part of the season. There’s some optimism there that we could possibly be returning later in the season but in the short term, we need to de-load and let that settle, like with all other young athletes who can be vulnerable to this type of injury. Josh has played 57 games straight since he’s debuted and he’s a high work-rate player. The plan is to get him right and then we’ll look forward, plan ahead and hopefully return to some match play.

RICHMOND
Sam Lalor: Hamstring, Available
“Sam passed all of his tests last week, but we made a decision that the best thing for him going forward for his long-term career was to just get a few more football exposures before we throw him back into AFL football,” Serpell said.
“He did some extra footy training last week, and he will get through a full session tomorrow, and then we will see him out there this weekend.”
Josh Gibcus: ACL, Test
“Gibo’s just got to get through one more training session tomorrow, a light training session, and happy to say (after that) he will play his first game of footy for a long time,” Serpell said.
Jayden Short: Calf, Test
“Similar to Gibo, he has to get through tomorrow’s session, probably a smaller session than he has had to go through the last couple of weeks, and hopefully we see him out there this week as well,” Serpell said.
Harry Armstrong: Hamstring, 1 week
“Harry is tracking well,” Serpell said.
“He passed all of his fitness tests, and repeated scans showed that his hamstring had healed probably better than we actually thought he would.

Josh Smillie: Conditioning, 1-3 weeks
“Smillie is going ok,” Serpell said.

Kane McAuliffe: Quad, 2-3 weeks
“He is tracking well, so we will just bring his return to play forward and expect him to miss another two to three games and see him out there playing a game pretty soon,” Serpell said.
Thomson Dow: Patella, 3-6 weeks
“Dowy is not going too well,” Serpell said.
“We started some overground work with him this week, and he didn’t respond well to that, so we are just going to see how he goes clinically over the next little while and make some calls from there.
“I can’t really say that we will bring his return to play back any sooner, but we are hoping for the best for him.”
Mykelti Lefau: Calf, 4-6 weeks
“Sadly, for Mykelti, he sustained a calf injury in the second quarter, and he was subbed out of the game,” Serpell said.
“He had scans conducted yesterday, and we are probably looking at four to six games he’s going to miss out.”
Liam Fawcett: Foot, 6-8 weeks
“Sadly, for Liam, he sustained a syndesmosis injury in training last week,” Serpell said.
“He had surgery earlier this week, and we can still expect to see him out there at the back end of the year.”
Samson Ryan: Foot, TBC
“Samson Ryan hopefully will start a bit of overground running this week, and then we will have a bit more of an idea of his return to play after that,” Serpell said.
Mate Colina: Shoulder, Season
Judson Clarke: ACL, Season
“Both underwent surgery, and from all reports, surgery went well. Sadly for them, their seasons are done, but we’re looking forward to seeing them around the Club and having a few smiles here and there from them.”
ST KILDA
Zaine Cordy is closing in on a return to play, following a lengthy period on the sidelines rehabilitating a pectoral injury.
“Zaine’s injury was substantial, so it’s pleasing to see that all going well he will be back playing football in the very near future,” EGM Football David Misson said.
Mattaes Phillipou is progressing well through his plantaris recovery, with timelines currently projecting more football for the 20-year-old before the end of the season.
Max King has entered the first stage of recovery following surgery on his right knee.
“It’s important for all of us that Max’s knee has time to properly heal and recover from what was a significant surgery,” Misson said.
“Max will be reasonably immobile for a period of weeks, before he returns to load bearing on that knee, followed by gradual progression from there.”
