ADELAIDE

Mitch Hinge

“Hingey has recovered well, we expect him to train today and be fully available this week,” High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“He’s taken some time off, did some straight line running on the weekend and I’m sure he will get through training today and be available so it’s a nice problem to have.”

Josh Worrell is set to return next week after breaking his arm in Round 10.

“Josh has been on his feet now for about five or six weeks and done plenty of running, we’re hoping that he will get surgeon’s clearance next week and be available next weekend,” Burgess said.

“It’s great news for him, he’s really worked hard, the rehab guys have put him through the wringer and he will certainly come back ready to play.”

Will Hamill is expected to be 1-2 weeks away as he recovers from finger surgery.

“Will has been able to run, he just hasn’t been able to handle the footballs too much, but we are expecting him to get clearance next week or the week after and be available after that,” Burgess said.

Josh Eyre is half-way through the AFL’s concussion protocols, after sustaining a concussion during Collingwood’s Round 15 VFL match.

Eyre will now enter the training component of the protocols.

Jeremy Howe
After last week experiencing hamstring awareness, a precautionary scan cleared Jeremy Howe of any hamstring damage, but further investigation revealed a neural issue originating from his back that kept him out of last Friday’s clash against Geelong.

The 34-year-old has undergone treatment with physios over the weekend and will be available for Saturday’s game against Hawthorn should he complete training this week.

Wil Parker
Wil Parker has completed multiple running blocks over the past week as he continues his recovery from a meniscus tear.

The 23-year-old is expected to be available within the next one to two weeks.

Brody Mihocek
Brody Mihocek has started his rehabilitation after undergoing successful surgery from a pectoral tendon injury, undertaking light activity to strengthen his shoulder movement.

Mihocek’s recovery is expected to take 10–12-weeks, resulting in him missing the reminder of the 2024 home-and-away season.

Tom Mitchell
Tom Mitchell has developed some soreness in his foot after commencing a running program over the past week.

Mitchell will be held back from running actions for a week which will alter his return timeframes, although the midfielder will be able to continue rehab work in the gym.

Lachie Schultz has entered the AFL concussion protocols after sustaining a concussion during Collingwood’s Round 18 AFL match on Friday.

Kaine Baldwin

“Kaine’s recovery from his recent navicular stress injury hasn’t progressed as quickly as we’d like and he’s still showing symptoms with variations in his program,” GM – AFL Daniel McPherson said.

“The time remaining in the AFL season does not allow for him to complete a conservative rehab program, return to training and then be fit to play. After discussions with Kaine, we’ve ruled him out for the remainder of the season.”

Saad El-Hawli is looking at a return from a syndesmosis injury in the next 3-4 weeks

Zach Reid is out of his sling and has commenced running following surgery to repair a pectoral rupture last month. 9 weeks.

“He has progressed all the way through and is on track to get through all of the protocols,” Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said.

Neil Erasmus will be sidelined from the action after receiving a heavy head knock at the opening bounce of Peel Thunder’s clash on the weekend.

“It was really unfortunate for Neil being the first contest of the game,” Merriman said.

“Neil is good, he’s been into the Club yesterday and today and will have the week off obviously.

“We can hopefully expect to see him available to play the following week.

Brandon Walker who played for Peel Thunder’s league side for the first time since round nine of 2021, with Merriman confirming the 21-year-old played through the game unscathed following an AC joint complaint the week prior.

“(Walker) got through fine.

HAWTHORN

Jack Ginnivan (knee) – Test

“Jack’s tracking really well. On Saturday, he got moving out here and did a training session with Jack Price in our rehab group. He did some AlterG running and felt really good. We actually then took him outside on Saturday and started moving. We did a bit more yesterday, we did some strides and some run-throughs. Today, he progressed that and ran faster and then we put him into some football training as well so right now, it’s looking really good for training on Thursday and obviously, for the game on the weekend, it’s probably more in the ‘likely’ category.”

Massimo D’Ambrosio (ankle) – Test

“He had an ankle inversion sprain in the game and acutely, just wasn’t comfortable so he was subbed out of the game. But he’s pulled up quite well and has run straight-line today on the AlterG treadmill. We’ll assess and progress Thursday into some training hopefully, but there’s a little bit of work to do between now and Thursday. He’s given himself a chance and hopefully, he’ll be more of a chance after Thursday.”

Jasper Scaife (finger) – 1-2 weeks

“He was really unlucky. At main training last week on Thursday’s session, we were doing a tackling drill and he just went to fend off, as you would do, and in that action, his finger got caught in an opposition jumper and he was quite sore. We thought it was a dislocation but further scanning showed that it was actually a break so he had surgery later that afternoon to fix that and he’s now in a short-term rehab phase. He’ll miss the game this weekend and we’ll reassess for next week.”

Chad Wingard (calf) – 2-3 weeks

“He had a bit of a niggling calf the past two weeks. We took some time out and got him to a position where he returned and played in the VFL. He didn’t pull up as well as we would’ve liked last week but come Thursday, he was ready to go again and train. He said he was feeling good but it became apparent during the session that he wasn’t as good as he thought he would be and we made the decision not to play on the weekend. We got some further scans which just showed that he irritated some scar tissue in his calf. We just need more time. We need to build some strength back into it, get a few sessions under our belt, back-to-back sessions, a body of work, so in two to three weeks, we’ll look at returning to match play.”

Mitch Lewis (knee) – Season

“He’s been in nearly every day we’ve been here as a group. He’s up and about, he’s supporting his teammates, he’s been super positive. He’s booked in now for surgery next week. We’ll get that done and start the journey of a rehab process. Mitch is ready to attack it, he’s really positive and he’s been fantastic around his teammates this week in particular. It’s just great when he’s around the club, he’s a real presence for us and he’s really good.”

MELBOURNE

Max Gawn will need to successfully complete training later this week if he is to be available for the Round 19.

Gawn suffered an ankle injury during Round 17 and has since been incredibly diligent in his rehab program to try and be back as soon as possible.

The club’s High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith provided an update on the ruck on Tuesday afternoon.

“Max has progressed well,” Griffith said.

“He got back into running earlier this week, and we’ll look to integrate him into training as long as he recovers well from that run.

“Then a decision on his availability will be made following that training session later in the week.”

Lachie Hunter has suffered another calf injury during the VFL on Sunday. We’ve scanned that calf which has shown a low-grade strain to his gastroc [gastrocnemius] muscle. Only expected to miss 1 week.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Hamish Free has been placed in AFL concussion protocols and will be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Brayden George is recovering well from surgery and his knee has reduced in swelling and increased its range of movement across the past week.

Josh Goater and Callum Coleman-Jones (Achilles) are “starting to make good inroads with building their calf strength and running mechanics,” White said. Both out for the season.

PORT ADELAIDE

Jeremy Finlayson has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2024 season, with scans confirming a small and stable laceration to his spleen.

Todd Marshall has escaped serious injury and will be tested this week, with imaging showing a strain to his hip.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Aaron Naughton and Adam Treloar will train this week ahead of a possible return against Geelong on Saturday night

Treloar suffered calf tightness during the warm-up against the Blues and will be assessed after Thursday’s main session.

“In the warmup of the AFL game, Adam Treloar had some persistent generalised calf tightness,” Head of Sports Medicine, Chris Bell said.

“Aaron Naughton has been progressing in line with our post-concussion management framework,” Bell said.

“Aaron completed a game-like session without contact on Saturday and is in line to tick our final boxes to be available for this weekend’s game.

James O’Donnell

“James had some hamstring tightness during last week, so we modified his Saturday session.

“With some interruptions to his training and playing over the last few weeks, we want to make sure that we regain some continuity.

“We will progress his training over the next two weeks to make sure that he is fit and firing and is back to his best.”2-3 weeks

    1. Mattaes Phillipou will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a hip injury.

The 19-year-old played out Saturday’s Round 17 game against Adelaide with very mild soreness, however scans have since revealed the extent of the injury.

“This is a disappointing setback for Mattaes, who has been incredibly diligent in his approach to this season,” Executive General Manager of Football David Misson said.

  1. Far out. Cox a test? He was supposed to be out for 6-7 when I brought DCam in at R2. Fml.

I’ll let it slide if Maxxy can make a magnanimous return this weekend.

Bracing myself for Tingles the dud to go 150 v Cats.

  2. WCE medical report:

Jack Petruccelle is set to be available to face St Kilda, but Jeremy McGovern, Liam Duggan and Tyler Brockman will be sidelined from the Marvel Stadium clash.

Meanwhile, spearhead Jake Waterman is listed as a test due to soreness with his iliotibial band near his knee.

Petruccelle has missed the past three games with a hamstring strain but just needs to get through training to put his hand up.

“Great news for ‘Petch’, he’s missed the last couple of weeks with his hamstring, but assuming he gets through training on Thursday we’ll see him out there on the weekend,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“Liam unfortunately got that head knock during the game, so he enters the concussion protocol this week so he won’t play.

“Tyler hurt his ankle during the game. He has a syndesmosis injury. We’ll put some work around that in the next couple of days and give you some more info but, again, he won’t play this week.”

McGovern returned home by driving across the Nullarbor last week after being unable to fly home from the clash with Melbourne and took part in some light training on Tuesday.

“’Gov’ from a couple of weeks ago with his ribs, he’s back running which is really good, joining in some lower-level drills and got up to some speed today,” Inness said.

“He won’t play this week; he needs another week at least.”

The Eagles will test Waterman this week at training before deciding if he flies east on Thursday.

“Jake, out of the game, has a bit of soreness around his ITB just near his knee,” Inness said.

“Nothing to do with the cut from a few weeks ago, so he will be a test later in the week to see if he can play.”

Matt Flynn (ankle) is on the comeback trail from the ankle issue he suffered against Hawthorn in round 16.

“’Flynny’s’ ankle, he’s back training, it’s taken a little bit longer than expected,” Inness said.

“He’s a test this week but he’s probably unlikely with our WAFL team not playing as well. He might get a chance to do a big session with those (players) if he doesn’t play in the AFL.”

  3. On Caldwell’s Supercoach note this week, there’s mention of a possible injury. Anyone have an idea what this could be?
