The top Ten Traded OUT list is pretty reflective of the state of our teams at the minute. 9/10 it could be argued are rookies who have served their purpose and it is seemingly the correct time to part ways with them enroute to an upgrade. I don’t see a world in which arguments for keeping any of them would be a strong case, so if they are on your list, don’t feel bad about severing ties, no matter how loyal they have been.
I’ve included Matt Flynn in the category of rookie (though technically not), as there are certainly arguments for retaining him in your side should the wheel of fortune in the Weagles selection committee room spin up in favour of a third match, given his whitewash was Max Gawn. In any case, with a BE of 68 which should be comfortably attainable, you should probably hang on to him if he is selected. If he’s not, and it will not surprise, I am thinking of just one trade straight to The Chad in the flex position.
The only other player on the list is the enigmatic Clayton Oliver, the subject on many a post on this site recently. I feel that if he plays against the Hawks he should be retained. He has a BE of 86 and is averaging 97 as a pure mid and loves the tough stuff which the Hawks should provide. If you have sorted your on field rookies then go for it, but I’m tipping that’s not the case in the majority of teams. If you held him last week, I don’t see why you shouldn’t keep him this week. Use your rookies to upgrade elsewhere because he will still most likely score more than them and should not lose any cash, and he could be a handy bye cover for three weeks. (see the polls for votes regarding Clarry).
The trend within the top ten percent of coaches is to NOT trade Clarry, as he does not appear on the list of anyone in the top 1%, 5% or 10% in the rankings. Given his ownership of nearly 50k that seems to tell us that those coaches are thinking more stategically and not rage trading whilst still maintaining rookies on field. That’s my two bob’s worth.
The traded IN list is reflective of this time of year and shows a standard pattern of upgrades and downgrades. 25k coaches showed restraint and waited for the bubble on Hustwaite and will obviously reap the benefit of that extra bit of intel, and feel more comfortable including him in their plans. On the other hand, the second most traded in is one gamer Hugh Boxshall, indicating the lack of credible downgrade options this week where there are some pretty potent arguments for going early to get one of the six premos on the list. Two others yet to reach bubble status (Fonti/Lorenz) indicate how desperate we seem to be to make those all important upgrades.
Interestingly, none of the top ten percent of coaches have chosen to bring Will Lorenz into their calculations, instead opting for Freo DPP Neil Erasmus in his place. They do have Joe Fonti on their lists however, and all see Hugh Boxshall as relevant as he appears on all the lists as well.
Chad Warner is the highest on the list of employment for every category of the Top Ten Trades list, overall and top coaches. His recent form and CBA attendances indicate that he’s deserving of the support from coaches. One of the anomalies is that Max Gawn is the next highest traded in player (5,669) overall, but is not on the list of top 1% and top 5% of coaches, and only appears on two percent of the top 10% coaches list. The Bont has been traded in by over 3k coaches this week, but does not appear on any of the lists of the top ten percent of coaches.
Again, I wonder if this is yet another indication that the top brass are saying no to $700k players as a definitive strategy and opting for the value at this stage of upgrade season. Of all the trades IN for the top 1%, top5% and top 10% of coaches, the only common names include Warner and Rankine. Of all the trades IN for the top caoches, it seems the value picks are the ones surfacing. Names such as Dawson, Xerri, Marshall, Sinclair and Zerrett. Our poll also is supportive of this strategy, if you refer back to it.
Thanks for reading, hope you find it useful and happy trading this week.
This is a great addition to the site this season. Thanks JimmyDee.
Great write-up Jimmy Dee, just a note on Clarry and his trade-outs in the top 10%. This week the data is somewhat skewed becasue most traded him last week.
He is now only in:
8.9% of teams in top 1%
10.9% in top 5%
12.7% in top 10%
I was ranked 963 last week and held, that combined with some poor premos saw me drop to 3300 so moving early last week may have been the move.
That being said, agreed that if he is back this week he is probably a hold.
Swings and roundabouts BL !! I did trade to Tracca last week and rose up the ranks, but your point is good, if you still have him, hold him.
Is Dudley the rookie forward from Freo a viable downgrade this week?
