POLL: TRAPS or TREASURES, The Cheapies Edition

Today I’m splitting the criteria. Firstly the players who have had previous experience at the level and range in price from the low $200k+ and who scored well, and secondly, the rookies or rookie priced players regardless of experience who pulled out great scores worth considering. Some I believe are not worth adding to the poll as they will be in many coaches thoughts and teams before we kick off. Such players include Devon Robertson (94), Todd Marshall (85) and Tom Blamires (87), who all scored well and will settle in a lot of teams if named in round one.

We start with Kiddy Coleman D $233,800 – 58 pts who hasn’t hit the highs of past scores so far. Trial performance a little underwhelming if we keep referencing the ton in a half a couple of years ago. Was moved a few times between forward and back, and spent time roaming between the arcs but didn’t look damaging or overly impactful. Am I overthinking this one?

Lincoln McCarthy F $170,500 – 82 pts.  Not sure we trust the role yet. Started back and looked the goods turning defence into attack. Ended the game forward so we cannot be sure there is not some experimenting going on there. Can be damaging and can impact games, and has an enticing price for such an experienced body.

Luke Pedlar F $240,700 – 98 pts.  Good score for under a quarter million. Could this be the ultimate trap? Low possession, high impact game from Peds in Mandurah which included a low ten possessions but also three snags amongst a ton of tackles. Do we think this impact could be a weekly thing?

Josh Rachelle F $369,600 – 90 pts.  Genuine mid price, and tricky at that. Ran through the guts all day and had the highest CBAs of the Crows in his 86% TOG, but is 18 possies enough to give us the faith for a breakout season. Also bear in mind he was playing in a midfield missing Sam Berry, James Peatling, Jake Soligo and potentially Ranks and Cal Ah Chee, so how much of the pie (pizza) will he get.

Zak Johnson D $273,600 – 102 pts.  Top scored for the Bombers and looked assured and comfortable in defence racking up 24 disposals. Given the Bombers defensive issues, he looks set to continue in the role so are we likely to consider a cheap defensive option, or was this just an outlier ? Did score a couple of 84s in his first three games last year, but not much after that.

Connor Budarick F $245,700 – 75 pts. Has the role now, and we know it is SC friendly and the price is attractive. Had 21 possies but only one kick in (although the highest for the Dogs on the day was two). Look for him to work his way into the system and show an increase in output, or are there better cheapies in this area?

Bruce Reville M $242,400 – 103 pts.  Great score from a cheapie achieved with 20 possessions (including two KI) running up and down the wing. Bit of cult hero at the Lions but is it enough to stay in the position. Spent 87% TOG and I think he stays due to his fitness and versatility, what do you think?

Xavier Lindsay M $273,900 – 97 pts.  Great score from a very efficient 14 disposals (4 KI) playing that floating half back role we all love. Small sample size due to weather obviously but looks good in the role.

Finn O’Sullivan D/M $314,100 – 99 pts. Has he got the new mid role locked in, or was it just trialling around? Bit more expensive but I’ve chucked him in here because of potential and not a lot of other useful DPPs. Attended 20 CBAs and picked up 24 disposals and a couple of clearances and looked composed whilst on the field for 74% in an up and down performance from the Roos.
