Polls: Rowell Replacements

Written by The Salamander on March 23 2021

With popular pick Matt Rowell ($495,500) set to be out for some time with a PCL injury, coaches will need to find a replacement.

I’ve put together two polls. For the first, imagine that you have Rowell plus $35K in the bank, so can afford somebody up to $530K:

For the second, imagine you’re a coach with Rowell and $0 left in the bank, so can only afford a player up to $495,500:

Finally, for coaches with Rowell and a substantial amount of cash: just pick the best established premium mid you haven’t already got.

  1. Have Danger and Rowell to deal with this week but luckily seem to have all the best rookies (at this stage). Will be doing Danger to Dusty (I have Dunkley) but can’t decide on Rowell’s replacement . Tossing up between :

TU : Walsh (with $230k remaining)
TD : Macrae (with $123k remaining)

    1. If you’ve got that much cash available, then definitely Macrae.

Possibly consider both (if you can afford to spare it, use DPP to get Walsh instead of Dusty).

      1. That’s not a bad idea and I could do that. The only worry with not having Dusty is missing out on his scores when he goes big and everyone seems to have him. His BE is low so he will only increase in price which makes me think this is the week if I was to trade him in. Would love some thumbs up/down!
        Danger & Rowell for :
        TU- Dusty & Macrae
        TD – Walsh & Macrae

        1. Don’t stress, they’re both good options.

Only reason I would go against Dusty is that he’s already had 1 of his BIG games, and you can’t get that back.

        2. I’m in the same boat with Rowell and Danger, and also picked lost of the right rookies.

I already have Dusty, Walsh and Macrae and I dont think you can go wrong with any of them. With Dusty, remember that his 158 will only be in his rolling average for one game, so it won’t make him unaffordable down the track.

If you can’t split them, double check your bye structure.

  2. Z. Williams, baby!!!!! Everyone wanted to start with him anyway, and now you’ll get somewhat of a POD.

Swing Laird (or another DEF/MID) to the MID line.

      1. Or you can be like me and bave Zac Williams from the start, copped a dodgy round 1 score but Ive got a pod now without needing to trade.

        1. I was very tempted to do the same. Unfortunately for you now, he won’t be AS MUCH of a POD as he might have been. Good luck.

  3. I would take advantage of my DPP players and open up as many regions of the field as possible. This would then include players like Steven May and Zac Williams. They are POD like and defenders seem to be the big scorers of the game these days.

  4. With only 518k I’d be using DPP. I believe best midfield option I don’t have is Cerra.

But I really cannot see Cerra being a keeper, only a stepping stone, and you don’t sideways trade to stepping stones if you can help it. Well done on you if you started him though – his trajectory is up and I can see him only being a luxury trade at the end. Still on my radar.

    Looking at DPP options:
I like the look of Hunter Clark, but with 5 of my 6 keepers in defence already decided that kind of locks me into missing out on potential top 6 players like Ryan, May, Mills and so on. I could do it if I forced Laird into the midfield but I’m far from certain he could hold a mid 8 spot all season without bleeding points.

I have Short who would have been ideal based on my cash.

Stephenson is another one who stands out. Was great on the weekend. the risk is what happens when Cunnington comes back but that could be a long off issue. Also, he has a bit more potential price growth than say Hunter Clark or Adam Cerra.

Right now I’m thinking that the options are going a two-fer and gaining additional cash to make a worthwhile upgrade and grab some cash flow rookie you missed, or picking someone who you can squint a bit and call a fallen premo.

If it was round 2 already and we were on the bubble I’d do the former.

But it’s not so I will do the latter.

I have Taranto, so it’s Heeney for me. Using DPP in this way also lets me swing all the rookies I want onto the field.

    1. Probably Jed Anderson will have more impact on Stephenson’s SC output than Cunnington and Jed might be back this week. If anderson is named I’d wait on stephenson just to be sure

  5. Got a bit in the kitty, but tossed up between two breakout candidates to replace an undervalued player in Rowell. Cerra tempting, but settled on LDU.

  6. Hi all,
To cover Rowell this week I’m seriously considering swinging Laird into the MID which will mean I need to trade in another back. Will have roughly 490k to spend so thinking either Z.Williams or H.Clark.

    TU: Z.Williams (459k)
    TD: H.Clark (439k)

    Cheers

    1. If you can’t separate them on output, you can try and compare their byes and that may help get one over the line.
I’m leaning towards Williams as I’ve had him in my team in previous season, so I can somewhat trust him

      1. Cheers for that bit of info. Will definitely compare their byes and take that into consideration.

      Check the Trade Talk thread.

There’s more traffic and this very trade is mentioned a few times.

      I went Cerra 😉
