We begin our polling this week much the same way we did last week: with Lachie Neale.
Lachie looked a lot better during the first half of Thursday night’s game. He didn’t look so great in the second, though. With the Lions suggesting he may be carrying an injury, is it time to move him on?
Moving on, young Docker Hayden Young, who finds himself in around 20 percent of teams as a cow-like object, was on the wrong end of a collision with Levi Casboult on Sunday, after which he took no further part in the match, leaving him with a score of just 19, which will now stay in his price cycle for three games.
Finally, we’ll finish off the way we started: with a repeat of a poll we had last week. Paddy Dow couldn’t get into the action on the weekend, recording a score of just 29 points. Like Young, that’s going to stay in his price cycle for three weeks, hurting his cash generation. Is it now time to move him on?
Got an idea for a poll you’d like to see here on SCT? Let us know over in the Polling Station thread!

Paddy Dow is gone this week for me! I gave him a chance and thought he would improve this week with Martin and Fisher out, but did a lot worse!
It’s just who comes in for him is the question
Josh Kelly, hold or trade to someone like Oliver or jump on the Tex bandwagon. Can’t see Kelly being a top 8 mid.
TU – Trade
TD – Hold
Hold until he eventually gets injured…
Neale should have been traded out last week. Wiyhout a question.
If you didn’t before the game, even knowing he had a back injury and a 271 breakeven, you were obviously committed to him, despite the expected 200k price drop.
Why back out now on an improved result and a future cash loss only half as bad as forecast last week?
We didn’t know he had a back injury before the game, that came out after the game. Beforehand it was “mystery injury” or “soreness”, nothing concrete.
So the circumstances have changed and the decision has to be assessed anew.
I would have traded him last week if he’d said what he said post-game. “Im not sure if I’m allowed to talk about this but I had back scans this week and the results are pretty bad”. Or words to that effect, why the hell isn’t he allowed to talk about it anyway?? But that’s another story.
Having this info now, unless there is some positive news on these bad scans by the end of the week, he’s gone for someone fit for mine (Sam Walsh come on down).
The rnd3 price drop should be ignored, it’s history now. His current price is too much cash to have invested in a bloke with a dodgy back.
I read about the back complaint before the round started. I can’t recall where, maybe reddit or fanfooty or something. But it was that it was a “complaint” – the usual we’ll give him a couple of injections and he’ll play type thing.
You know, the kind of niggling injuries that most footy players play with most of their careers.
No mention of scans at that point. That came out afterwards.
But certainly that he was carrying “some kind” of a back injury was in at least
limited circulation in the public domain before the match.
You’re right though, if you weren’t aware of it then it could be/probably is justification to trade now.
But for me the obvious lack of form, interrupted preseason and the 271 break even last week should already have already sealed it.
I got roasted enough for that last week though.
I certainly wasn’t aware before the round started and would have definitely traded if I’d known his back was sore enough to require scans.
All the info only came to light after the game when Fagan said Neale was really brave playing so sore and then the next day when Neale admitted he’d had scans.
Hindsight is a great thing but it really wasn’t as obvious a trade as you’re making out HH. Particularly given Neale was on 73 at HT and looking good to go 130+.
But yes, after the fact and after the news, trading Neale was definitely the right call and I think it’s more than legitimate that owners are contemplating trading this week as well now that they have more info re: scans etc.
I’ll probably hold myself, but it is tempting to grab Dunkley/Impey and set up my FWDs so will give it some thought over the next few days.
And you’ll continue to get roasted throughout the year as Neale averages 120+ and your rank continues to fall.
Harbour Heroes is 15th in the SCT group, is ranked 1077 overall and scored 2296 on the weekend. Think he’s doing alright. Let’s lay up on bashing HH who contributes a lot of great intel for the SCT community.
Well said RooBloke. HH was spot on with his analysis and thoughts on Neale last week.
And yes generally you don’t trade premos but there was a strong case to move Neale last week and his injuries and form were even greater case for moving him on.
His inability to handle the tag even more so and if more sides don’t tag him this year it will be a huge surprise.
The main factor was that you need to be comfortable in the use of one of your valuable trades as it is difficult enough to get your 22 roles into premos over the course of the year
For the record, I didn’t mean to come across as ‘bashing’ HH. I was merely disagreeing that the decision to trade Neale was so clear cut. Utmost respect for HH and the advice he shares, along with the many other contributors on this site.
I don’t think Macca’s comment was in response to you – for what it’s worth, I didn’t think your comments were bashing HH.
What’s your rank, since you’re questioning my judgement? 🙂
In the end, should Neale return to 120 points, a 120 point midfielder is not essential. If you look at how many options were in the 110+ midfielder range in ANY year you will see that the risk of missing out on a 120 point midfielder is not going to be a season ending calamity. Any of the top 15 midfielders is usually within about 10 points of each other.
Should he become a 140 point midfielder that will be different. But with 3 sub 90 scores that is probably already beyond him this season.
Money is points. Points is money. The $721k he cost spent elsewhere is not dead money.
In my case the money spent elsewhere than Neale got me a 5 deep premo defensive lineup with Lloyd and Ridley as starters. I believe they’re going to be a good choice and my rank should remain relatively good.
Plus, I will shortly have the potential to buy Neale at a number beginning with 5 if I wish.
Disagree if you like. It’s fine to have alternate views and opinions.
But let’s keep it all civil.
.
Not sure why you got roasted HH – it was a pretty clear decision I think and logically had strong merit. I guess people will hold him still if they feel like they are in for the season ride, but I dont get the assumption that he is still a guaranteed Top 6 mid this year – he might end up that way but on all currently available info you would have to say it is far more unlikely than likely.
If anyone says they didn’t know about Neale’s back, I have one important piece of advice. GET ON TWITTER! I was a firm hold on Neale, then found out about the back injury/jabs etc and traded him out as fast as I could. You need to keep yourself informed to get ahead in this game.
Thanks Daisy. That could have been where I saw it too, on a twitter side feed.
We knew it was a back injury but we had very limited information on the seriousness, its a different situation now regardless of the price drop
Dow made 9k off the bubble.
If ever there’s a definition of list blocker, Dow has to be right up there.
I have Sidebottom and Saad in my team as PODs! Should I move them both on for Dunkley and Mills?
TU – Trade
TD – Hold
Thanks for the thumbs (votes) haha… It’s killing me not having Dunks but just wasn’t sure wat would go down in that Doggies midfield!!!
Does anyone think that Petracca can improve his disposal and average above 100..? Seems to be getting a lot of it but just rushed disposals very frustrating..!
Yeah, he’s just butchered in the first three rounds. Finding plenty of it, but heinous DE and lots of clangers. That’ll clear up, dw.
Bad for owners, great for those looking to pick him up on the cheap.
Thanks for the feedback will keep for sure.
Shai Bolton at F3. He’s a goner this week, just head spinning who to bring in. I have $166K in the bank, so pretty much have free choice…
TU = TEX!!!! It’s not just an aberration
TD = Butters, he’ll be be consistent
or please comment for other contenders.
cheers
Without knowing your team, if it’s got to be a fwd, Impey, Ziebell are other cheaper options if you don’t have them. Dunkley if you’ve got the cash.
Cheers RB. I have Dunkley & Ziebell, but will give Impey serious thought.
We’re a week late but I’m contemplating him too.
Impey is the regret I have – selected Dow over him and will regret it all year it seems
You can end that regret this week.
Yeah it feels wrong buying at an increased price and acknowledging your mistake, but a bigger mistake might well be keeping a player you don’t want.
I feel I’ve got too many dicey fwd options already. F1-F4 reads as Tex, Phillips, Ziebell, Daniher. Adding Impey in there as well …. could be a masterstroke – or not!!
Well, You’re already on the outskirts of Risky City and the car is running low on juice…. time to go all in
Hahaha…
Oh, Dow is gone this week without a doubt … it’s just whether he is up or down for the replacement is the question.
The other problem that needs to be considered is the rookies not being named in the Def line … based on his matches thus far, Hawks must surely be going to drop Kosi … he looks out of his depth. Lions already dropped Sharp and Saints dropped Highmore … it needs correction there … so Impey may well have to be missed regardless …
The annoying part is the naming of the sides 24 hours out … makes it hard to know who will now be dropped.
Neale-Dunkley
Clark-Impey
TU – yeah
TD – nah
Its nice after having to deal with Heppell, Draper and Caldwell, not to have to worry about Neale, Dow, Young.
Adams. 75av
T/U Trade
T/D Hold
Thoughts on De Goey?
I traded De Goey this week. Not getting the increased midfield time I expected/hoped after others left. I thought he could be a good POD but I was wrong. Had to go. Moved some pieces around and turned him into Ridley.
Dylan Sheil out for season 🙁
I’ve got 3 players that are killing me. Dow is out, possibly for Waterman.
Simpkin has really underperformed and after having seen the last 2 matches, he looks disinterested, so likely upgrade to Guthrie.
DeGoey stays for now. It’s my own fault, I traded him in at the last minute for Heeney.
Anyway, onwards and upwards!
Brad
I’m not sure Guthrie is a good pick up.
He’s been off the chain with Danger out. He usually plays a more accountable role.
I see him returning to a 100/105 average. Not terrible , but there are better Mids out there.
I know, but being a Geelong supporter, sometimes it’s just more fun to pick players you like watching 😀
Danger might play forward anyway, plus with the cats terrible game style at the moment, Guthrie runs as hard as anyone to make position for a short kick.
I was going to bring in Guthrie lol. Which premo would be better besides Macrae Boak Dunkley Dusty Brayshaw Laird (all of which I already have)
Steele
Yep Steele or Walsh.
Titch is still a probable top 8 mid , Though he should be cheaper next week with a 153BE
Have no real issues this week and have all the good rookies.
So thinking of this,
Phillips – Impey
Dow – Walsh
TU – Do it
TD – Save trades. Both not keepers
Hayden Young : Executive GM football Peter Bell: “He’s sustained a high-grade hamstring injury. We’re just working through exactly what that looks like but he’ll be unavailable for a lengthy period of time.”
He ( Young) has to be a must trade now.
Chapman shapes as a likely option. Though we won’t know for sure if he’s playing until Sat.
Luke Parks is another one that should get a second game for Carlton.
There’s Cox and Butts ( no pun intended ) I won’t be going there though !
If you have a bit of bank,do Jiath or Cummings come into consideration ?
This may need a poll on its own.
Replacements for Young and Dow !
No chance ill be going cox to butts either…
Neale to be rested this week ???
Tu Should
Td Shouldn’t
Comment: @#$&*!!! Neale……..
Are there any stats somewhere on % or number of kick ins, Swans, Lloyd V Dawson?
Jake Lloyd 5/11 (5 played on) – Dawson 4/11 (4 played on)
Barry do you also know the kick in stats for the Geelong game?
Stewart took 1/10 – Duncan was taking a lot of them for some reason
Duncan 4, Tuohy 2, O’Connor 1, Smith 1, Stewart 1, Henderson 1.
Thanks CT, Dawson cetainly hurting Lloyd potential points this year, but Dawson might just be a better kick… one to keep in back of mind with more experience
Don’t think so but you can use a calculator. All I’ve been able to work out is that Dawson took 36% of the Swans kick ins.
Thoughts on bringing in Fogarty or Pickett. Both getting some midfield time and both in the negative Breakeven wise. And could be a good point of difference. Big hit or miss tho
Looking at the forward line.
Who is the better investment?
TU- Impey
TD- Warner
Thanks
only have 1.8k
adams to sloane
kosi to Chapman
T/U Good Trades
T/D Bad Trades
Go Frankie.
Hunter Clark too
TU : jiath
TD : Bowes
Trade out
TU : Phillips
Or
TD : hunter Clark
Got them both as well. Considering bringing in Jiath and Dusty.
UNCONFIRMED
I’m hearing that Neale has a fracture in his back. Anyone got any mail on this?
All we’ve heard is that he had scans and they weren’t good.
I would think allowing him to pay with a fracture would be well outside a club’s duty of care.
But if the club doctor said it was not at risk of deterioration from playing, who honestly knows?
Think its time to just cut your losses with Neale, he’s still over 600k and doesnt look like having close to that scoring potential at the moment, you still make money jumping on Ridley so think we should just do it and move on.
No issues to deal with this week so far.
So thinking T.Phillips down to Impey
3 trades used prior to this round.
TU: do it – better points and cash ITB.
TD: save trade, you’re burning then to quick
Should I pull the trigger on Dow to Tex?
Can’t believe I could bring in Tex, who woulda thought!
Used 4 trades already due to injuries and suspension.
To replace Cripps
TU Steele
TD Boak
Don’t trade Cripps
