Rookie Review – Round 14

Written by Alza on June 20 2023

Round 14 in the books with just 1 more week of byes to come. Try to get 18 on field this week but remember there are still 10 more rounds to go and most people are left with 10 or less trades. Ideally, we’d like to have all our rookies off our fields come next week but majority of coaches will likely have 1 or 2. More than likely whoever you trade in this week will be held in your side for the remainder of the year with our teams heading towards full premium.

There are a number of rookies on the bye this week marking the perfect time to trade them out.

Players on the bubble are marked with an asterisk.

The Good: Sheldrick had another great game but only played 55% of the game. He still managed 19 touches at 58% with 4 tackles, 2 goals and 4 clearances. So far he’s been an excellent trade in option since his bye. Henry played one of his best games with 17 touches and 6 marks.

The Bad: Berry was subbed out early after 1 handball and 1 tackle from 32% TOG. Angwin was the sub and had 1 handball in his 14% game time. Buller made his debut and was subbed out after 55% game time with 2 touches, 2 marks and 2 tackles. He deserves another chance but he may not get one.

  1. Great work as usual Alza! always a must read.
Just wondering your thoughts on Dev Robertson, it looks to me as if the penny’s dropped for him and he’s finally bringing his 2nd tier form to the big show. How do you see his js and separately his output for the remainder of the comp?

    1. Thanks Mark, appreciate it.

I like Robertson as he’s always had the potential to be a good scorer as he has shown in the VFL and not just this season. I traded him in last week and am very happy with how he started but there are still some worries.
I don’t think he will play out the season from here at least not in the 22 or without a few injuries anyway. I think he’ll play for a month or so and depending on from he might lose his spot.
In the past Fagan hasn’t given him a genuine go for too long so that’s why I have my doubts but it could change. He does tend to give kids a run for a couple of weeks to see what they can do and then bring them back to the VFL.

    1. Sydney fans seem to really rate him but Mills & Heeney are due back soon so JS is definitely a worry.

    2. Given how he has performed you would think he would stay in the team but it is a worry. He should stay in until he has a poor game but it might only take 1 game without a decent impact for him to be dropped again

  2. If I needed to trade in one of either Shedrick or Windhager – which one woulf you take?

TU: Sheldrick – cheaper but with job security concerns as mentioned above
TD : Windhager – better job security
