Round 13 Review

Written by Dane on June 13 2022

Richmond (11.11.77) defeated Port Adelaide (10.5.65)

1. Liam Baker (112). Did the majority of his work in the final term which boosted his score in a tight game. Kicked 1 goal from 26 touches (10 contested) to pair with 5 clearances and 531 metres gained.

2. Travis Boak (110). Currently at a heavily discounted price and hence, was a semi-popular inclusion this week. Repaid the faith with 25 touches (12 contested) plus 6 marks, 4 tackles and 9 clearances.

3. Jayden Short/Darcy Byrne-Jones (102). Ninth ton of the year for Short who found 23 touches (11 contested) and a team best 578 metres gained in his now usual, midfield role. Byrne-Jones had his fourth ton for the year thanks to 23 touches, 6 marks and 4 tackles across the backline.

4. Jack Graham (100). Standard game from Graham who had 17 touches, 1 goal and 10 tackles in the Tigers win.

5. Ryan Burton/Dan Houston (98). One of those rare games where fifth spot falls to a couple of scores in the 90’s. Both of these guys were flying in the mid 80’s at half-time but really slowed down, with Burton eventually finishing with 25 touches and 635 metres gained, while Houston had 26 touches and 6 marks.

Other 100+ scores: Zilch

Disappointment: He might be worth a look in with his scoring potential to finish our forward lines, but this week Dustin Martin (70) only had 13 touches and 2 goals.

Rookies: Juddson Clark snagged two goals from his first two kicks in league footy, which boosted his score to a respectable 63 from 11 touches and 3 tackles, and his overall performance probably means he keeps his spot for the next fortnight or so. Gibcus was thrown forward and had a great score of 68 from just 6 touches and 1 goal if anyone had him this week as a warm body on field. No rookies for Port.

Injuries: A calf problem meant that Trent Dumont’s night ended early, while Butters and Jonas had a severe head clash but played out the game and seem set to play in round 14.

Essendon (7.12.54) defeated by Carlton (12.8.80)

1. Dylan Shiel/Sam Docherty (139). Shiel put in a splendid performance in the midfield with 27 touches (15 contested), 8 clearances, 10 tackles and 1 goal for his best score of the season. Docherty had a decent jump in ownership after his bye round and rewarded those handsomely with 33 touches, 9 marks and 699 metres gained.

2. Patrick Cripps (126). Eighth ton of the season for Cripps who wasn’t fazed by close attention from Perkins as he found 28 touches (13 contested) of the ball, while also recording 8 clearances, 5 tackles and 1 goal.

3. Harry McKay (117). Back in the team and performed really well with 15 touches, 8 marks and 3 goals for his best score of the year.

4. Adam Saad (109). Another solid score from Saad who has gone massively under the radar this season. 19 touches, 5 marks and 6 tackles for his seventh ton.

5. Lewis Young (106). Career best score from Young who ran at 100% DE from his 18 touches and 7 marks down back for the Blues.

Other 100+ scores: Jordan Ridley (103), Dyson Heppell/Nic Newman (101)

Disappointment: Unfortunately poor disposal (65%) and clangers (6) held back Sam Walsh’s 29 touch game to just 75 points.

Rookies: Numerous teams probably had to use rookies such as Durdin (23) and Reid (33), or maybe even Boyd (39), who all fell well short of desirable scores in round 13. On the flip side, Hobbs (83) had 17 touches, 3 tackles and 1 goal, and Martin (66), who many are still running with, had 13 touches, 5 marks and 5 tackles. Marchbank (28, 209K defender, 3 years out of the game) might be a downgrade option if his job security seems alright.

Injuries: The big news out of this one was Darcy Parish being subbed out with a calf injury that I think was due to a corkie, while for the Blues it was Cerra, who was subbed off super early with a hamstring.

Fremantle (14.11.95) defeated Hawthorn (12.10.82)

1. Hayden Young (142). Best game of Young’s career with career bests in disposals (31), kicks (21), marks (10), inside 50’s (5), rebounds from 50 (6) and of course, Supercoach score. Averaging 92 on the season and huge breakout potential in the second half of the year.

2. Andrew Brayshaw (135). Huge game from Brayshaw who found 37 touches (only 4 contested) but ran at avery good 83% DE while also laying 6 tackles, grabbing 6 marks and nailing 1 last quarter goal.

3. Jaeger O’Meara (132). Best score of the year for O’Meara who led the Hawks midfield with 30 touches (13 contested), 9 clearances, 7 marks, 7 tackles and 1 goal, while also not recording a single clanger.

4. Caleb Serong (127). Building very nicely with five tons from his last six games to push his season average to 94. Had a massive 33 touches (20 contested) plus 6 clearances and 4 tackles.

5. Luke Ryan (119). Has now had three tons in four games after being rather questionable to be in our teams after scores of 62, 75 and 63 in rounds 7, 8 and 9. Found his way to this score thanks to 27 touches and 10 marks while running at 85% DE.

Other 100+ scores: James Sicily (116)

Disappointment: Little bit unders for Will Brodie here from what we’ve come to expect, who had a solid last quarter to boost his score to 82 from 22 touches and 8 tackles.

Rookies: Poor returns here from Callow (28) and Butler (40) who once again may have been needed for many teams this weekend. Josh Morris (2) was subbed on and is priced at 123K in the forward line.

Injuries: Sam Frost copped a knock to his knee which saw him subbed out of the game, while Blake Acres was flying before a hamstring ended his day early, but not before he could record 692 metres gained, a game best.

Brisbane (10.18.78) defeated St Kilda (8.9.57)

1. Brad Crouch (129). Continued his outstanding season which now sees his average at 108. Had 26 touches (16 contested) plus 1 goal and 10 tackles to lead this games scoring.

2. Lachie Neale (123). Another massive performance from Neale who had 37 touches (16 contested) with 6 marks, 3 tackles and 7 clearances. A score that the majority probably accepted for the captaincy role this weekend.

3. Hugh McCluggage (120). First ton since round 8 for Hugh who played a brilliant game through the middle to find 33 touches and 1 goal while also recording a team best 574 metres gained.

4. Daniel Rich (119). Broke his streak of only scoring tons in even rounds with this 26 touch, 7 mark effort across the backline which ran at 92% DE.

5. Jack Sinclair (118). Super popular option to bring in this week with his bye in the rear view mirror and thankfully produced a great score from 30 touches and a game best 639 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Jarrod Berry (116), Josh Battle (110), Jarryd Lyons (107)

Disappointment: Just 77 this week from Jade Gresham who is still having an outstanding year and is probably a luxury upgrade anyway at this point.

Rookies: Windhanger (42) had 7 touches at 100% plus 5 marks, and he would’ve been joined in this section by…

Injuries: Mitch Owens, but unfortunately the youngster suffered a concussion which ended his night around half-time. He wasn’t the only player to finish his night on the pine in this one, with Jones (groin) and McKenzie (concussion as well) joining him on the Saints bench. It didn’t stop there though. Zorko (hamstring) and Gardiner (back) being the Lions who didn’t finish the game on Saturday night.

North Melbourne (7.11.53) defeated by GWS (15.12.102)

1. Harry Himmelberg (187). Alright let’s unpack this for anyone who hasn’t been up to date with GWS. A couple of games ago Himmelberg got moved into the backline and that has seen a major uptick in his usage and therefore score, which is what happened here, rather than a big bag of goals which one may have assumed in the past. He set career bests in disposals (37), kicks (25), handballs (12) and marks (16) this week, which ran at 94% DE and ultimately gained a game best 697 metres gained. Also slotted one long-range goal. This type of statline won’t happen again but if you want the quickest cash gen/stepping stone possible, consider.

2. Stephen Coniglio (174). Another guy who had a massive game was Cogs who seems to be really enjoying his midfield role. Had 34 touches (14 contested) with 5 clearances, 6 marks, 3 tackles and 3.2, which could have easily been 6 if he slotted all of his chances.

3. Luke Davies-Uniacke (138). The young Roo found his way to a career best score here with a really good game through the middle that included 33 touches (16 contested) that gained 574 metres and ran at 87% DE, plus 1 goal.

4. Tanner Bruhn (127). Another career best effort in this game went the Bruhn, who set benchmarks in disposals (24), marks (7) and goals (2) while running at a very good 87% DE.

5. Lachie Whitfield (118). For those long suffering coaches who are still running with Lachie, all I can say is I hope this score is the beginning of a resurgence. While he hasn’t had a horrible season performance wise, his Supercoach scoring has been down by his lofty standards, with this 29 touch, 14 mark game being his first in triple figures.

Other 100+ scores: Tom Green (117), Isaac Cumming (115), Callan Ward (114), Josh Kelly (111), Todd Goldstein (104), Sam Taylor (101)

Disappointment: Rough score if you own Luke McDonald, as it seems his role for the day was the keep a close eye on Toby Greene and not have his usual presence in the back half, hence he only found 13 touches for 24 points, with 6 clangers holding him back.

Rookies: Plenty of coaches jumped on Jacob Wehr this week and were probably crossing their fingers when the team sheets came out that he would hold his spot, which he fortunately did. Overall he performed pretty well, finding 12 touches, taking 7 marks and laying 4 tackles for a respectable 66. For North, Paul Curtis (61) had the best DE (90%) in the team from his 10 touches and 1 goal (for comparison, only 2 GWS players ran at less than 75% DE, which I think is absurd), while Hayden (49) and Perez (42) at least hit their breakeven. Fingers crossed you weren’t relying on Horne-Francis (26) this week.

Injuries: A heavy bump early on meant that Harry Perryman was off to hospital with what I assume would be rib related, fingers crossed it’s nothing serious!

  1. Take Neales C score of 123 or rely on Oliver today.

I am 154 ahead of my opponent who has Gawn to come. Any Gawn score under 154 will win it for me
