An aggressive off season has seen the Saints acquire some top level talent, while managing to secure some star’s signatures long term. Mix in the talent taken in recent drafts, and it’s easy to see why there are a heap of pundits thinking Ross the Boss can push this team up the ladder. Time to take a look at a super relevant Saints side.
The Lock’s
Sam Flanders ( Fwd ) $396.600
Could this be the biggest gift of this year’s SC season ? He seems to over last year’s back issues, and hopefully the horrible hair dyes ( was he trying to get noticed ? ) Flanders is a SC star in the making. Check his junior sats if you want to dig deeper. Priced under $400K and as a Forward, he will play full time midfield at The Saints. Don’t over think this pick. lock him in… F2-F4 I don’t care. Just do it.
Nasiah Wanganeen – Milera ( def ) $622.300
Nas or NWM turned 23 last Monday ( 21 / 2 ) He’s played 86 games of footy. The Saints midfield is now his. He has the skills to be an Elite SC talent for the next decade. This could be the last year we get him as a defender. The possible flags.. are tags coming ? We haven’t seen him really deal with a tag. Can anyone really run with him? Look he’s top priced, and he has the Round 4 Bye. This he shares with the top 4 Def from last year. Whitfield Ash and his mate Sinclair. Pick one maybe even 2 of these guys, and hope they’re the one that pops. Nas is my pick for D1 overall scorer this year so I’m keen to lock him in early. I do also like his mate Jack though.
The Dark Horse
Jack Sinclair ( Def ) $606.600
Nas Moving to the midfield could be a blessing for Jack. Now sole Kick in taker, Sinclair should control the Saints back half this season. I think he’s shown over the last few years he has what it takes to be called a Proven premium. A Pre Bye average of 115.9 ( Post Bye 107.9 ) tells me he can start well. At ~10% owned he’s an interesting prospect indeed.
The Breakout
Matttaes Phillipou.( Fwd ) $168.400
I don’t think I’ve seen a team without him in a while. Another of the “don’t over think” club.. If he’s fit and playing put him in. He might still play a fair bit of Forward time, but at his price it’s hard to say no.
The Rookie
Jack Carroll ( Mid ) $119.900
Jack Carrol from Carlton right ? He’s a 22 year old from the 2020 draft. Looks like he could have a back line spot thanks to another X Carlton player in Liam Stocker being unavailable. It’s more a lock down role so don’t expect great scoring. He’s a possible bench spot. Might get Dpp if he hangs around.
Charlie Banfield ( Fwd / Mid ) $113.500
Son of a gun may even get an early Debut. 192 cm extremely mobile.Big Tank. Fantastic training reports. Looks like he’s already impressed a few at Moorabbin. He maybe still behind Jack Carrol, but keep an eye on him.
