Captaincy Candidates – Round 18

Captaincy Candidates

Daicos v Suns

L3 v Suns: 116, 149, 75

L3 @ PFS: 116, 143

L3 MID v Suns: 159, 104, 136

Typical Hardwick. The Suns midfield are high use and non-negating, so they’ve become a decent ceiling midfield for opposition. Daicos really solid here and can absolutely play interstate.

Bontempelli v Crows

L3 v Crows: 119, 112, 88

L3 @ MRVL: 133, 177, 66

L3 MID v Crows: 111, 98, 73

With the Dogs playing their first Top 8 opponent in a month, I can see Bont having to salute in the guts while maybe a Peatling follows Richard and Keays glues Dale.

Zerrett v Tigers

L3 v Tigers: 156, 119, 162

L3 @ MCG: 100, 81, 156

L3 MID v Tigers: 100, 112, 177

Back to his Atlas best on ball last week (shocker). Watch Essendon act like this is a grand final. Zezz to raise the bat. Martin also viable but not sure lightning strikes twice.

Butters v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 117, 94, 58

L3 @ AO: 123, 130, 101

L3 MID v Eagles: 105, 131, 127

Speaking of lightning (great segue, Michael), Port will make a meal of West Coast at home. Butters and Rozee to lead the way.

Rozee v Eagles

L3 v Eagles: 114, 126, 153

L3 @ AO: 150, 80, 117

L3 HB v Eagles: 110, 96, 103

Thinking Rozee actually outdoes Butters here as we’ve been somewhat denser OB but still leaving heaps of slack around ground. Watch Rozee, the downhilly-est of skiers, have 36 and 2.

Smoky Picks

Anderson v Pies

L3 v Pies: 140, 109, 133

L3 @ PFS: 105, 146, 89

L3 MID v Pies: 85, 110, 131

Been mercilessly tagged but the Suns captain has been getting the job done. The Pies will be a super test of their steel, thinking that channels his best!

Brayshaw v Hawks

L3 v Hawks: 100, 136, 149

L3 @ OS: 84, 103, 130

L3 MID v Hawks: 116, 108, 118

I was at Saints Hawks last week and was low key stunned how loose the Hawks were a stoppage. Lost track of the extra numbers and had patches of getting brutalised in contested numbers. That’s Brayshaw’s language. He’ll just need Serong to draw the ire of Sam Mitchell.

Cats MIDs v Giants

L3 MID v Giants: 93, 139, 100

Giants have a become a nice midfield to crash into and the Meters Gained Brothers took them for a spin last time.

Steer Clear

Gawn v Xerri

In all likelihood one of those open contest battles where both rucks score well but I wouldn’t bother trying to split them. Look elsewhere and just enjoy if they pop.

If you’re backing in one of the Port boys, Racca or Kozzie could be some fun.

Verdict

Letting it percolate but have Brayshaw into Butters at the minute. Kind of don’t want to ruin Suns Pies with a VC sweat – should be a great game.

    • Eh. Into Hewett and Cincotta? Not really but suppose Carlton could roll over completely and Cluggers fleeces them.

      Just feels capped.

Go for it if you’ve got a feeling.

    • Suns haven’t out and out tagged this year.

I did think of Miller w that run giving Daicos a look but he’s settled into that FWD hybrid role so well. Not sure they unsettle their biggest strength at the source to negate one player. Not Hardwick’s style – at all.

The Suns have been an excellent opponent for MIDs, I reckon he’s still fine for the VC.

  1. Vc Martin into Capt Butters, …. why?

……. I don’t have Zerrett, and the ball won’t get to Rozee as much in Ports defence ……

  2. Daicos into Bailey Smith (blitzed last time he played the Giants – 154 points. Playing SC do or die games atm – hoping lightning strikes twice….

  3. Zerrett into Butters/Rozee for me.

Giving Zerrett a last crack at a large one before the inevitable lower tag scores incoming.
