Game Chat – Adelaide V Sydney

Written by MJ on April 16 2016

Venue: Saturday, 7.40pm AEST

Last time: R18, 2015, Sydney Swans 17.15 (117) d Adelaide 9.11 (65) at the SCG

Best SC Scorers from last game:

  • Crows: Lynch 97, Lyons 94, Thompson 88
  • Swans: Tippett 165, McVeigh 143, Hannebery 134

In/Out:

Adelaide

  • In: Lynch
  • Out: Knight (Omitted)

Sydney

  • In: McVeigh, Towers
  • Out: Hewett (Omitted), Jones (Omitted)

Game Notes: First thing to note is that Jarrad McVeigh back and may be a solid option in a couple of weeks. The Swans gave the Crows an SC mauling last time out, with 9 players scoring 110 points or more. Tippett makes the trip to South Australia to face his old side again, likely to face a chorus of boos from the home supporters. Both teams have shown solid form in the opening three rounds, so this promises to be a cracker.

MJโ€™s tip: Swans by 14

  1. Guys, I only need one trade to go from Greene (via DPP swing with Adams) to get in Laird or Johannisen. Worth it, or persist with Greene for longer?

Means my Forwards then look like:

Hall, Barlow, Adams, Kerridge, B.Kennedy, AMT (Papley, McCarthy)

And my Defenders then look like:

Houli, Shaw, Laird/Johannisen, Bartel, Weitering, Dea (Brown, Hartley)

Too fraught with danger in terms of structures?

  2. Sinclair a late out.

FU Callum you spud. Worse decision i ever made was putting you in my initial squad. Now i’ve got little coin to try and conjure a magical doughnut avoidance trade.

  4. Pre-game I rage traded like I’ve never rage traded before. You’re on my never again list Callum Sinclair. Not for your scoring but on moral grounds for being late out and making my Saturday dinner time a stressful one.

I’m sure to get a number of thumbs down for this move and I get that. I didn’t want a doughnut and I see it as an upgrade from an elite to an uber elite and a swap from a mid-pricer to a cash cow. That’s how i’m justifying it at least.

    OUT – Sinclair
Hasn’t advanced like i’d hoped he would plus i didn’t want a doughnut.

    IN – Goldstein
    SC must have.

Meant i was 200K in deficit and with limited options half way through the round i had to roll the dice on a ballsy move …

    OUT – Treloar
Been consistent but his ball use is terrible and seems like it’ll stop him from being one of the SC uber elite.

    IN – Young
With limited options it came down to Wright, Young, Oliver and Lyons. Went Young with little confidence in the decision. With a negative BE at the very least he’ll make some coin over the next few weeks before being upgraded.

Not proud of this double trade but just sharing it with the community.

    1. I also flicked Callum Sinclair. I had Stefan Martin, interestingly enough, on the ruck bench, with Wyatt ready to take GAJ’s captaincy score, so I could have played Sinclair over Martin had I been stronger in the other lines. Through DPP I could have kept Callum Sinclair and played Michael Hartley’s 44 on field, but I decided to gamble and pick up about $100k by trading Sinclair to Jonathon Griffin.

  6. Is it just me or is the Home Ground Advantage helping the Crows with the umpires? Some baffling decisions, Swans very stiff

    1. Not getting near it when he’s on the ground. Might survive another week at the selection table if the Swans get up

      1. Cameron in for Milera. First look at Milera and he was off the pace in a very hot game. Go Crows! Don Pyke appears to have the goods as a coach.
