Rookie Review – Round 8

Written by Alza on May 7 2024

What a week, horrible carnage followed by a few great rookie scores and then the Lions globetrotting on Sunday night.

Jones is the best rookie option this week. He’s shown plenty in his 2 games and looks to have a place in the side locked in. Hardemann has a decent role for scoring but shares that with about 3 others. Clark is one to consider bringing in or back in if he stays in the side. He’s only 31k above his starting price and with Dangerfield out he avoided the sub’s vest. He’s still a chance to get it but if not could make some more cash.

Players on the bubble are marked with an asterisk*

The Good: McKercher had a day out again playing across half back. He had 30 touches at 90%, 3 marks, 3 tackles, 8 intercepts and 579m gained. Starting to show what he can do in years to come.

The Bad: Answerth has been a pretty good rookie this year but was concussed very early on with a score of 0. Archer returned to the side with just 4 touches and 4 tackles with 5 clangers. Turner couldn’t match the heights of his 1st game as he had 5 touches and 3 marks.

The Good: Sharp bounced back with a decent score to reward coaches that didn’t trade him. He had 18 touches at 83%, 10 marks and a goal. Clark had his best score returning to the side. He had 14 touches (10 contested), 3 tackles, 4 clearances and a goal. Only priced at 155k makes him a trade target again. Sullivan started as the sub but came on fairly early. Still only had 43% game time but managed 10 touches at 80%, 5 tackles, 4 clearances, 8 score involvements and a goal.

The Bad: Rogers was a popular trade target this week but didn’t match his 2nd game as he had 6 touches, 3 tackles and 4 clangers.

The Good: Wilson played his best game to make it 2 good ones in a row. He had 21 touches (11 contested), 8 marks and 3.2. A great score to be unfortunately stuck on a lot of coaches benches. Windsor had a great game with 18 touches at 83%, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 8 intercepts, 9 score involvements and 1.2. Lohmann played well with 13 touches, 6 marks, 6 tackles and 1.2.

The Bad: Simpson had just 5 touches and 2 marks in his 2nd game. Clarke made his debut but was subbed out after 46% TOG. He had 6 touches and 2 marks but 5 clangers kept him scoreless.

Time To Trade: Berry, Emmett

  1. Is there any chance a rookie defender with job security is going to emerge so I can get either Hore or Reid off my bench?

    1. Hopefully that rookie defender turns out to be Reid. He seems to be 2 weeks away for an eternity.

    2. Hardeman should be decent but he was subbed out on the weekend and hasn’t set the world on fire. Hastie may be an option but I think he was injured on the weekend and job security is shaky. Curtin made his debut but isn’t a certain to stay in the team although he probably should.

Reid could be back in 2 weeks but surely after his injury history they don’t rush him back even if he is highly rated. I wouldn’t be trading him now if you still have him though

      Maybe Phillips or Schoenmaker??
I’m waiting for the latter as he can score!!!
      Good luck

    1. Hayes looks like the ruck forward role is his for the taking. Big bodied mature age players are thin on the ground for the mighty saints. He takes the heat off both King and Marshall.

    2. Feel like I am getting a slightly more mature version of Darcy with a slightly better role (no Bevo, no Lobb, less tall forward line) and putting 90k in the bank. Unless he throws a shocker this week, I think I will be buying!

        1. It’s just initial thoughts. Haven’t really looked into it, but for all I know he may be irrelevant next week anyway
