Rookie Review – Round 14

Still 2 weeks left of the byes and teams are nearing completion and trades are winding down. Rookies are around with some decent options recently and coming up.

A key thing to remember that anyone you bring in is almost a lock to stay in your team for the rest of the year. Especially rookies, make sure you factor in job security as the top priority for them with dpp and looping swings also. If they aren’t traded out of your team then their price increase doesn’t matter it is purely just points scored.

Butler, McCarthy and Allan look like good trade in targets but all 3 have the bye this week and McCarthy has only played 1 game. Anything can happen so avoid bringing them in this week as much as possible.

The best options for this week are Rowston who has matured since his debut season 2 years ago and has played well in the VFL all year. When given a decent role in the middle he will score nicely. Madden has also been in good form in the VFL and looked good in his 2 games. But his job security is shaky and even if he keeps Briggs out for a week or 2 it is unlikely to last the year and you may be unable to cash in his price increase. Martin looked better in his 2nd game as expected after only 3 games last year. He has a career average of 70 which depending on how you look at it is either low based on his injury history the last 5 years. Or it could be high as he hasn’t averaged over 69 since 2020 which was his 6th straight year over that. Either way he looks a decent option that we only need to be fit for 10 more weeks.

He had 28 touches at 86%, 7 marks and 7 intercepts without leaving the field once. Carroll had his best score and another good game against the Eagles. 16 touches with 8 contested, 4 tackles and 6 intercepts.

  1. I hadn’t considered Bo Allan but perhaps I should because of his D/M status. Do you think he will be given more full games and subsequently score closer to his latest score of 69? Could be good bench cover with McCarthy in the other zone.

  2. I think with Hough and Cole to come back in he may not be a regular starter. The Eagles are hard to read and what we seem to think they will do hasn’t really happened this year.
Their next game is a Saturday night so it will be hard to do but if they have those 2 return and he isn’t sub for that game then that will be a good indication of his role.

    • I don’t know but I’m guessing he’ll get more games, perhaps as the sub. I’m wondering whether he’s not got the stamina to play significant game time, perhaps because his style of game is fairly energy sapping.
