What a season it’s been even with 3 weeks still to go. We have been very lucky at times this season with a lot of rookies performing well and giving us some nice cash generation.
We didn’t get it all our own way though with a few issues throughout with a lot of rookies only playing a few games or being in and out of the team. A number of players played 3 games and were dropped or 1 and done. The sub was another big factor but fingers crossed it looks set to go next year. This year has seen a massive 167 rookie priced players play this season, players under the Lalor Line of $203,500
This was a very hard team to select due to a number of great rookies and that rookies can be classed as a success in a number of different ways. Points, price increase and job security are the main 3. Not everyone will agree but below is the selected 23 and generally in their playing positions. Let me know below who you would have in your Rookie 2025 team and who your favourite rookie was for the year.

DEF
Prior has been ultra consistent all season averaging just under 70, playing every game and reaching a max price increase over 200k. Fellow Bomber Reid finally got some continuity to play 10 games before another injury ended his season. He scored 3 100’s and increase by a huge 318k in that time. Trainor was a great rookie early in the season which worked well. He reached his max price in round 10 with a 170k increase. Bice was a standout early on and looked like he could be our last on field rookie. He averaged 90 for 6 rounds and hit his max price in round 8 rising over 260k before a role change left him with a couple of low scores and sub affected games seeing his price and average plummet. C. O’Sullivan has been another consistent performer playing all but 1 game and playing very well. His max price rise came 2 rounds ago at just over 175k showing his consistency. Late comer McCarthy had to be here because he’s been so good. Back to back 100s straight up saw him increase by 113k to not quite break the all time weekly increase record. With a low score of 71 he has been excellent increasing by over 277k in just 7 games while averaging 99 and providing much needed bench cover.
MID
Curtin has had a fantastic season and is one of the favourites for the Rising Star. He started the year okay but was never really popular. His last 10-12 weeks have been big, only 1 score since round 7 below 65 with 4 100s and a massive 153 in there. He is currently at his max price increasing by 350k. Long was never in many sides with a high starting price and sub game for opening round. Since then he hasn’t missed a beat playing every game and hitting a peak of 274k increase. Like the 2 before Langford was also not very popular to start with although was around the 10% mark. Round 1 he was the sub but since then hasn’t put a foot wrong. Sheldrick had a few sub games early on but since round 9 has been very good. Took his chance when he got it and scored well through the byes to rise by 227k at the peak. Hewett missed the whole 2024 and was a pre-season favourite at a discounted price. He might not have been the most consistent but this up and down scoring helped his price rise quicker up to a 230k increase at the most.
RUC
Fort has been a bit of a surprise this year and continues to be underrated. He kept McInerney out of the side for a few weeks during the byes and no one really expected that as his ownership never went above 3%. He rose over 230k scoring well especially across a 6 week stretch.
FWD
Remember round 1 when Ashcroft was named sub? Well that didn’t happen with a late out and hasn’t happened since. A few were scared off but he was still very popular. A very good rookie for us increasing over 200k with a max average of 79 other than after his 1st game. Hall went under the radar for non owners but has had an excellent year. Across a 5 week stretch he had 3 100s which saw him reach his peak price increase over 267k. M. Reid is another favourite for the Rising Star playing every game. Very reliable with coaches having a chance to cash in on his value at different stages, most likely for around 180k before the byes. Powell-Pepper had a quiet game in round 1 in his 1st game back from a big injury. Since then he scored very well to be a great rookie before an ACL ended his year. A. Reid joins his brother in this side as a pretty consistent scorer mainly in the 1st half of the year. He rose by close to 130k up to round 7. Kako kicked 4 goals in pre-season to lock himself into 72% of teams. He’s played every game and been very consistent with his best form coming since the byes.
INT
Brock was a surprisingly good rookie. He was dropped after 2 games but returned to play 8 in a row while scoring well and rising in price every week to his peak which is over 190k. Lindsay started like a house on fire before an early knee injury slowed him down. He only missed the 1 game but didn’t really reach those heights again. He was still a good rookie increasing over 160k before some form and role changes hit. Davidson was one of the best rookies to start the season with a huge 129 in his 3rd game saw him rise quickly by 180k after 5 games. Carroll has risen by over 190k this season. He had a quiet month just before the byes but other than that has scored very consistently. Erasmus has been a little bit of a late season bloomer. He played 2 games early before returning as the sub in round 9 which saw him into the starting 22 from round 10. He rose by 180k across 8 games.
