Couple thoughts; flipping between LDU + Budarick vs Pickett + Parish. Considering McAndrew -> Flex, Windsor -> Def then finding a downgrade/upgrade pairing to beef up the forward line. Team hasn’t changed heaps in the past few weeks and some nicher selections have become very popular unfortunately
FWD: sheez tracc Flanders JDG Pou Lombard (Robertson Marshall)
FLEX: Budarick
Next year MUST be a rolling lockout for opening round. To many POD gems exposed round 0 and people bailed out of popular picks that didnt fire and now pivoted and teams are starting to become very similar… just my opinion haha
Think im pretty settled on my DEF, RUCK. FWD & FLEX. For the MIDS i am considering fading Ed who ive owned for 90% of the pre season for a brayshaw, bye free and nice run. Not completely sold on Naicos either would prefer to chase some value but you just know he’s a top 4 mid and will need him.. dont think i have it in me to fade both bont and nick.
I have also flirted with a structure of Visentini & McAndrew R1&R2. May post that team below.
FWD: Sheezel, Trac, Flanders, De Goey, Budarick, Lombard (Marshall, Robertson)
FLEX: Jackson (either move him to R2 later in season or bring in Gawn/Grundy/Xerri at R2 depending on form)
6.5k ITB.
Main toss ups right now are:
1) swapping Clark for Sinclair (but would need 60k to do it – likely via JDG or Budarick -> Phillipou)
2) Jackson new role on scoring potential – I am not sold but mostly have him in at flex to give me flexibility on R2 spot and wait out the new rule changes before committing to a R2 later in the season
3) Fading Daicos (noting his early bye) – yes or no? Tempted by C Serong.
4) Connor Budarick – yes or no? Nervous about him getting Bevo’d
Anyone considering Coniglio at his cheap price with Green out and after his big opening round score? Seems like he has a decent role for the time being and could make a lot of cash?
Not really shez isl is not that good a player. And I rather have these rucks aa if one player scores poorly I get xerris score . Plus I don’t want follow the norm like I.notmly do get stuck with crap rookies scorers in a way I its a pod ream. So if one rookie scores poorly I get ny flexi score
Not worried about NAS, he copped the Perryman tag. The third defender premo was gonna be out of Zorko and Clark, and the first looked too impressive to pass on after last night’s game. Windsor looks the better D4 option ahead of both Coleman and Blakiston, I think he’s got a permanent midfield role that will suit his game style. Derksen is a wait and see to find out if he gets called up against the Tigers, if not I’ll probably put someone else in his place
First five mids haven’t changed since the first side I made up. Keeping my faith in Ashcroft, his only let down scoring wise was his efficiency, I don’t think he’ll be doing that every week. Bruhn’s done enough to trust him at least to be a good cash cow. Got Grlj at M7 so I’ve got at least one player I can use for a DPP switch when needed. Did have Jones on the bench until his injury.
Gawn and English seem like the two rucks that suit the new ruck rules best, so I’m going with them.
Most of my forward line hasn’t changed since the first side I made, most of the guys who played this week were impressive. Only difference since I believe is Dovaston being in.
Yes. I was focussing heavily on non bye players. Early on, with a few exceptions – Gulden and Naicos, Whitfield, one of Sinclair and Nas but not both.
But the fact of the matter is you can’t ignore the injuries and preseason performance.
I never thought I’d be putting Budarick in. Bruhn I dabbled with last year before his erm incidents. And then there’s Sellwood. Jaques and Serong were already there and suddenly most of my defence has a bye.
Still, it’s balanced right through the rnd 16 bye so can’t complain.
Any feedback is welcome! I’m unsure of Sinclair or Nas but currently leaning Sinclair. If Derksen isn’t selected next week he can be changed with the money itb.
Is xavier linsday viable or am i mental.
Also thinking getting reidy and straight captaining Anderson/Butters R1 and use players on bye for next 3 weeks of loops.
I have my choice of captians. Nick d butters xerri. English bont rozzew petracca who can I pick. I thonk xerri score 200 and petracca get close against the Eagles
for me the flex position is just another player. only difference is they don’t have an emergency in case they don’t play or want to loop them (make sure your flex is 100% going to play).
But if u name a ruck u can swap them out. See what I mean. In a way mcandrew be cover if xerri can’t play. I know a lot of people feel like u. But remember top 22 scores of 23. So if u have a rookie or even player get no u pick up the 140 if u want use a mid it’s up to u. I feel thus team I select might get me of to a great start and u can. Put the c on the flexi
that was the Flynn strategy last year, and would have been a very popular Draper strategy this year. everyone is off rucks at the moment until we know what their scoring will be like
i didn’t see Josh Daicos get any midfield time, if he is playing in defence he won’t improve much on last year. round 1 they played Saint Kilda who always allow defenders to rack them up.
Not sure if i should downgrade Coleman and either bruhn or young to go a rookie and another gun. Or leave it and get some cash from the 3 and give the rookies a couple of ganes to see if any worth it.
I am happy with gawn and English. Not sure the 2 Ruck teams is really going to work so I can pick these 2 and barring injurynjust forget about them.
Not sold on lachie neale fully but less ownership then gulden

Here’s what I’m thinking
If Young isn’t over he’s injury he can become Braun or Cogs. I’m also thinking I can go Deveston>Buderuck
Has anybody done the work on which teams play the most games on Sunday so I have a C loophole player, notice a lot of teams seem to be going for a full playing squad, or am I missing something. I like to have one $99K player on the bench who will never get a game.
The only thing I haven’t decided on is whether I’m starting Nas or Sinclair? Im taking Sinclair right now after his big score. Melbourne would have watched nas get tagged on the weekend so surely they send Langdon to run with him
i’ve thought about LDU alot. only problem with him is the round 12 bye, plus ‘is he a season long keeper?’ last few years he has started the season slowly and finished strong, don’t know why he does that.
I have 52k in the bank, not sure what to do with it. Open to suggestions, I had M Reid in my FWD line before but if I do that I’d lose Parish and have Sharp in the mids and I dont trust that he will play.
Ive basically rejigged my whole structure because it just feels like there are too many decent backline/mid rookie and mid price options that i think will make cash/score well
Is this too risky?
Def: NWM, Rozee, Blakiston, Grlj, J Lindsay, Jacques (Farrow, Serong)
Mid: Butters, Daicos, E Richards, Gulden, Young, Parish, Bruhn, J smith (Sharp, Carrol, Blamires)
Ruck: TDK or Jackson, McAndrew, (White as non playing loophole)
That leaves me with $336k left with TDK or $249k with Jackson
Main concerns are am I going too thin in backline? Is Bruhn a trap? Is farrow to exxy to have on bench?are there better mid rookie options than Carroll and am I silly avoiding all the big name rucks?
I’d say main risk is no back up ruckman with McAndrew at R2. I’m hoping there’s at least one cheap ruck option for R3 on selection night. Also remember Blakiston is a short term option, Bryan will take over as first ruck when he returns. Windsor could be better at cheaper price
Was thinking the same could be a trap, finished seventh midfielder when scoring 91 against Gold Coast. His score looked inflated in a depleted team that copped a beating.
His price is tempting but.
TU Bruhn, TD Mackinlay, finished seventh midfielder at only game at $99k in round 24 last year against Gold Coast, equalling Anderson’s score, more than Rowell who picked up one Brownlow point giving away six free kicks and ten clangers ffs.
Solid team, I’m running McAndrew R2 also but I’m looking for coverage at R3 so running a loophole slightly risky. Pending selection I have CCJ at R3 but Reidy could be it. Doesn’t look like he’ll score great but it’s some cover.
ROB lacks class but he’s the ultimate competitor, he’ll fight hard for his spot back
Rounds 2, 3 and 4 is best 18, so even if he doesn’t play those matches, all is not lost and we have time to pivot to another ruck before round 5. Even then it is only best 22 or 23.
McAndrew at R2 and Blakiston at Flex. Blakiston should get R/D by Rd6.
By chance McAndrew is dropped swing Blakiston to R2 until a premium ruck is traded in. That’s my thinking….. then again I’d love to start Gawn/Xerri due to low ownership.
See how both go, easy to trade one out for the ruck on fire and bank the cash.
Toby Murray is one worth keeping an eye on. Word form Adelaide is he is now clear second ruck option because he can play as a forward (although his TOG might be low). Who knows, he might get a decent run and get DPP
Subject to rookies, but think this will be the general structure. Gone a bit of a midprice madness strategy this year – worked well last year so will give another crack at it.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on mckercher? I’m starting him but seem to be a bit worried about him as he’s missed those pre season games
TU – start
TD – miss
Hey lads, just want peoples advice on if I could make this any better or anything’s
Defence – Sinclair, Rozee, Mckercher, Windsor, Grlj, Serong (Lindsay, Jaques)
Midfield – Butters, Daicos, Anderson, Dawson, Gulden, Young, Parish, Jagga (Sharp, Blamires, Carrol)
Ruck – English, McAndrew (white)
Forward – Sheezel, Petracca, Flanders, Philipou, Marshall, Robertson (Lombard, McRae)
Flex – Bruhn
I’d appreciate any feedback. If I’m too heavy in the midfield or my bye structure isn’t good enough. I’m definitely not sold on parish or mckercher ?
Thanks guys
I see White is listed back in 4-6 weeks so you just need a strategy if anything happens to McAndrew. You could maybe ride a doughnut in rounds 2-4 but would hate having to use 2 trades to correct worst case.
The only way you could reduce your early byes would be to look at some of the Fremantle players like Clarke, Serong, or Jackson, to replace Anderson, Guelden or English. Those 3 are basically the only differences I have to your team, as I’m trying avoid the early byes, although I’m warming to Anderson because his first two games could make up the points lost in the bye.
I’d be putting M Reid into my forward line if he is out. Problem is that I need a m7 – I already have Parish and only 219k, don’t like the idea of Sharp there – he is on my bench.
Other alternative is Petracca into the mids and Marshall into my forwards.
Or no M Reid and going for someone like Coniglio
Forwards are currently
Sheezel, Trac, Flanders, Reid, Pou, Dovaston (Lombard, Robertson)
Let’s say Grij, who will be on my bench, has a fieldable score on Thursday, and Young was only going to miss one, you could actually look at still starting him. Maybe.
Let’s see if he is named, he wasn’t on their injury report.
TU: Gawn, Grlj, Robertson (on field) (McAndrew on bench)
TD: Petracca, Parish, McAndrew (on field) (Robertson on Bench)
Bottom option takes another rookie off field for Parish and keeps same amount of keepers in team, but if McAndrew goes down have to deal with the headache of bringing a ruck in
Serong has been in my team from the start, mainly because of no early bye.
i got lucky last year and started Brayshaw instead of Serong, so why am i starting Serong this year, testing my luck?
My early byes are looking ok, with just daicos r2, Petracca r3 and Sinclair and Flanders r4 missing.
I think i’m ok to look at either Richards or Anderson to replace Serong, both have the r3 bye.
Anderson has an amazing run of games to start the season and Richards has already banked a 144pt game and looks the main man in the dogs midfield (until Treloar comes back ;).
or do i just go back to the well, and go with Brayshaw again?
alright with the news Kossie Pickett has potentially done a bobby hill/lachie neale on his partner Im swaying towards punting him from the team for Luke Jackson, this allays one of my concerns re being too thin in the rucks. also decided to play reidy at R3 instead of Kalani White as dont really need a non-playing rookie loophole in rounds 2-4. Finally punted Farrow for Sellwood from the Dogs as Dons have announced that Sharp/Kondogiannis/El Ackhar will be the three debutants for Friday. (Im not picking Kondo despite his decent pre season as Ridley is listed as only 2 weeks away and they are very similar style players).
new team structure
Def: NWM, Rozee, Blakiston, Grlj, J Lindsay, Jacques (Sellwood, Serong)
Mid: Butters, Daicos, E Richards, Gulden, Young, Parish, Bruhn, J smith (Sharp, Carrol, Blamires)
I think Dovaston over Rosas but at 145k you really aren’t going wrong there. Both are good options. But Dovaston one less bye to worry about.
I like the Watkins pick as another rookie we should see more of.
I’d be solid on Bruhn and more worried about Young. If he strings the games together Young is a winner but the preseason worries are always bad on a player with such a bad injury history.
Between Young and McKercher that gives you at least $838,600 That gets you a Windsor and 555.3k mid or Coleman and a 604.8k mid.
That’s a Gulden/Heeney grade mid, or maybe even a Callaghan or Dawson with a few k of cash. If you took a punt on Grlj as that d4 then it gets you anyone but Bont.
Of course the other way looking is it gets you a Whitfield grade defender (not worth taking NAS based on his previous round score and Sinclair bye) or an Ash/Clark type and Budarick via Petracca or Sheez’s dpp.
Think there’s been a slight overreaction to the ruck rules, there were only a few less stoppages on average in round 0 and aami series. Gawn and Xerri may be slightly overpriced but imo they’ll still be the two best scoring rucks for the year, plus no early bye. LDU underpriced as a pod and looks set to bounce back, had 2 years averaging 110 prior to last year. Promise I’m not a north supporter despite the numbers of Roos in my side
Let me know thoughts, I’m sure there will be a few changes prior to lockout!
Young’s still touch and go. Gets me too nervous coming off a long term injury seeing that kind of stability. That he might still not be right after last week off was enough of a warning sign for me.
Likewise LDU and McKercher are giving danger danger signals. They won’t all fail (hey, I have Darcy Parish and Cogs) but you need to accept that you are definitely playing risk vs reward.
If you’re comfortable with that, then that’s perfectly ok. Just go in with eyes open.
Reidy got dropped. Swap him with McAndrew on Flex and maybe swap Reidy with Zane Zakostelsky as you already have Lachie Carmichael for flex, or Kyalani White.
Can any Melbourne fans/anyone in general give me their thoughts on Harvey Langford? Feel like he’s the perfect build to take on the inside mid role and been bullish on him all preseason
1. With bye weeks being best 18 I’ve moved away from trying to cover this and take the hit of a missing premo and am banking on banking points with players who have softer early draws and having players to cover.
2. Freo worries me with what they’re doing and I have no faith picking any of them as premos which has caused me to think this way.
3. Wanted to try an incorporate some PODS without having a complete cookie team.
The Ruck debate has me changing my side all the time.
Set and forget and piece of mind not scrambling if mcandrew fails.
Or English and mcandrew…. but if he fails takes a bit to fix it up.
Then if you go say gawn and English, can you run with 4 mid price midfielder to free up the cash
Tried for a couple of PODs. Hate that opening round has forced a lot of us into similar picks. My feeling is De Koning will find his form and earn his paycheck. Feeling nervous about the Freo boys, but willing to ride Brayshaw and bail out if necessary.
I agree with the premo rucks (if you can call TDK a premo – yes, I have him too) but running McAndrew as my R3 – still hurting from 2025 having Matt Flynn as my R2 (thank you Mini McQualter!!)
Bucking the trend and limiting as much exposure to mid-price injury risk by exposing myself another way by forsaking byes and aiming for a more GnR strategy that hopefully offsets the bye deficits via good scoring matchups and some value with cash gen (I do need team drops to go my way, but can cull a mid-pricer or premo during rolling lockout to fill something devastating.
Def: Sinclair, Rozee, Roberts, Lindsay, Serong, Jaques (Grilj and Sellwood)
Pretty straight forward line Could have gone Mckercher but dont trust that were going in blind rather than knowing the role where Roberts should get great use of half back with ridley down plus his end of the year was promising last year.
Mid: Butters, Daicos, Dawson, Richards, Gulden, Parish, Bruhn, Smith (Sharp, Carroll and Blamires)
I dont trust Parish or young but felt might be necessary to risk one of them otherwise a relatively simple midfield, hoping to bank on Bont losing money and picking him up later in the year.
Rucks: English, D.Visentini (White)
English has been relatively flawless so far and visentini has a soft run to start the year, hoping to bank cash from him and would rather have mcandrew at flex
Forward: Sheezel, Petracca, Flanders, Budarick, Philipou, Lombard (Marshall and Robertson)
Another simple forward line
Flex: Mcandrew
133k ITB
Otherwise I could go with a typical guns and roomies approach and set and forget my rucks therefore changes become:
Waiting on team news before I decide on McKercher, however if I decide to take him out, I don’t have the funds to get him to a premo that I like currently.
Which is the better option?
TU: Trade out Dyson sharp to a cheaper rookie & grab a proper premo like Serong/Gulden type
TD: Hold Dyson Sharp & go for a mid price combo of Caleb Windsor & Lachie Blakiston
DEF: Sinclair, Rozee, Mckercher, Windsor, Grlj, Jacques ( J. Serong, Lindsay)
MID: Butters, Naicos, Gulden, Walsh, H.Young, Bruhn, Sharp, Jagga (Carrol, Macrae, Blamires)

With bye rds all u need iz top 18 gets scores. And remember is top 22 high scores so u can have a 23 like a high score mid ruck for the flexi

Only take an early round Premo that will make up the difference of playing one less game while you own them.

Yes. ZZ job security is probably shaky and Phillipou can do better than his 66 this week.

Don’t think a lot of players how to use your flexi in a right way. Remember 23 players 22 best scores
for me the flex position is just another player. only difference is they don’t have an emergency in case they don’t play or want to loop them (make sure your flex is 100% going to play).
Put the c on the flexi
that was the Flynn strategy last year, and would have been a very popular Draper strategy this year. everyone is off rucks at the moment until we know what their scoring will be like
Draft related question, who averages more?

you are missing a Flex
i didn’t see Josh Daicos get any midfield time, if he is playing in defence he won’t improve much on last year. round 1 they played Saint Kilda who always allow defenders to rack them up.
Changes to my team:
OUT: Gawn, Treloar & Farrow

The rucks do worry me, and Gawn could leak plenty of cash
So you’re back with your usual risky R2 strategy again Derek?!

Has anybody done the work on which teams play the most games on Sunday so I have a C loophole player, notice a lot of teams seem to be going for a full playing squad, or am I missing something. I like to have one $99K player on the bench who will never get a game.

I have 52k in the bank, not sure what to do with it. Open to suggestions, I had M Reid in my FWD line before but if I do that I’d lose Parish and have Sharp in the mids and I dont trust that he will play.
Same had Murphy Reid in and out of my team definitely in for a big year.
Ive basically rejigged my whole structure because it just feels like there are too many decent backline/mid rookie and mid price options that i think will make cash/score well
Is this too risky?

Fwd: Petracca, Sheezel, Flanders, Budarick, Phillipou, D Robertson (T Marshall, Lombard)

That leaves me with $336k left with TDK or $249k with Jackson
Main concerns are am I going too thin in backline? Is Bruhn a trap? Is farrow to exxy to have on bench?are there better mid rookie options than Carroll and am I silly avoiding all the big name rucks?
I might change Jackson to tdk. How ever Fremantle playing my cats and Jackson have a field day as geelong has no rucks
I’d say main risk is no back up ruckman with McAndrew at R2. I’m hoping there’s at least one cheap ruck option for R3 on selection night. Also remember Blakiston is a short term option, Bryan will take over as first ruck when he returns. Windsor could be better at cheaper price
So long as he plays R1 you’ve got time to deal due to Rnd 2-4 byes. Does not sound like ROB is coming back soon.

ROB lacks class but he’s the ultimate competitor, he’ll fight hard for his spot back
If McAndrew is named for round 1 pick him.

Team looks good.
Yeah I was fading Anderson early but didn’t realise how easy his fixture was. Thanks for the feedback though derek
i’ve dumped Serong. Now need to decide between Richards or Anderson
Did hear that Robertson is injured… looks like Dovastan in!
If Young is out who are we going?
Sam Draper looks a very good chance to play Round 1.
Not good for ZZ
TU: Richards
TD: Anderson
alright with the news Kossie Pickett has potentially done a bobby hill/lachie neale on his partner Im swaying towards punting him from the team for Luke Jackson, this allays one of my concerns re being too thin in the rucks. also decided to play reidy at R3 instead of Kalani White as dont really need a non-playing rookie loophole in rounds 2-4.

I was sure if i should take mckercher down to Coleman and then upgrade either bruhn or young

Agree to the over-reaction to the rucks this year.
I like LDU at his price. It’s just the R12 bye puts me off him

I’m nervous about freo too, have Brayshaw at this stage as wanting a bit of a mid POD. LDU has burned everyone too many times…
Lots of midprice madness. Is there still any love for the classic G&R’s approach ?
It’s a good question. I think we some of the value in some of the mid price players its hard to not take a few of them
The Ruck debate has me changing my side all the time.
Set and forget and piece of mind not scrambling if mcandrew fails.
Or English and mcandrew…. but if he fails takes a bit to fix it up.
Then if you go say gawn and English, can you run with 4 mid price midfielder to free up the cash

TDK and a named rookie for visentini and parish
TU: Option 1
TD: Option 2
Final Question:
TU: 3rd Premo Defender (Clark)
TD: 2nd Premo Ruck (Gawn/Jackson/Grundy/Anyone, McAndrew Flex)
Not long now! Thoughts? Bit of mid price madness going on.
Def: Rozee, Clark, J Daicos, McCarthy, J Serong, Jaques (Grlj, Lindsay)
Mid: Butters, Merrett, Gulden, Walsh, Young, Parish, Bruhn, Smith (Farrow, Carroll, Blamires)
Ruck: Jackson, McAndrew (Zakostelsky)
Fwd: Sheezel, Petracca, Flanders, Budarick, Phillipou, Robertson (Marshall, Lombard)
Flex: Blakiston
TU: Coleman & J.daicos
or
TD: Blakison & Roberts/Kerch
biggest question for all teams (including my own) – do we trust Flanders?
Waiting on team news before I decide on McKercher, however if I decide to take him out, I don’t have the funds to get him to a premo that I like currently.
Which is the better option?
TU: Trade out Dyson sharp to a cheaper rookie & grab a proper premo like Serong/Gulden type
TD: Hold Dyson Sharp & go for a mid price combo of Caleb Windsor & Lachie Blakiston
Cheers!
Any assistance appreciated, on bottom of the ladder & can’t catch a break
DEF – Whitfield, Sinclair, Clark, NWM, Lindsay, Blamires (Carroll, Sellwood)
MID – Bont, Daicos, Callaghan, Butters, Serong, Holmes, Murdock, Cumming (Retschko, Anderson, Sharp)
RUCK – Gawn, Jackson (White)
FWD – Sheezel, Petracca, Flanders, Kozzie, Phillipou, Lombard (Marshall,Steene)
FLEX – Cook

Thinking either McCluggage or Rankine this week? Round 16 is my worst bye so avoiding anymore premo’s from there.
