Many upgrade targets this week. If only there were rookies…
Defenders
Jack Sinclair – 532.8k, (-73.8k), 112 AVG, 112 BE
Mentioned Sinclair last week and that all still applies, plus he lost another $10k. Must-have in the backline as he’ll probably be top 2 for points back there and is pretty affordable right now. Nas being out for 3 weeks shouldn’t really affect him and he also has Richmond this week, who he has gone 135, 162 and 124 against in their last 3 matchups. Great option again.
Lachie Ash – 512.6k, (-70.4), 104 AVG, 102 BE
We all know Ash has had a role change over the last few weeks, but it actually hasn’t impacted his scoring as much as initially thought. He managed 111 against Essendon and has another soft matchup with West Coast this week. His running power should enable him to find the footy in almost any role and while he may not have as many easy touches, he could still be a top 6 defender for our sides. If you believe he can keep adapting to the midfield role and out-perform his cheap price, go for it.
Incoming Price Drops
Callum Wilkie – 500.6k, 196 BE
Luke Parker – 514.3k, 151 BE
Jordan Clark – 490.2k, 139 BE
Midfielders
Lots of value in the mids this week. Especially in times like these where we don’t have a lot of downgrade options and cash can be hard to come by, cheap fallen premiums become so important to our sides. Unless you’ve got a stacked line already, I’d recommend getting one of these guys.
Noah Anderson – 500.2k, (-119.5k), 101 AVG, 72 BE
I feel like there’s been an abnormal amount of premiums just falling off a cliff out of nowhere this year. Anderson has lost a huge chunk of cash after looking a bit off all year until last week. He went off in Darwin for 145 points and this could signal a return to form. Averaged almost 115 last year and that included some tag affected shockers, so we know he has a huge ceiling. Also worth noting that St Kilda opted to tag Petracca instead last week. You can target him this week to get in on the Suns Darwin dominance, or if you want another look, he’ll still be affordable next week
Finn Callaghan – 488.3k, (-117.2k), 99 AVG, 85 BE
Surprising that Finn wasn’t able to capitalise on the matchup with Essendon last week, as it wasn’t as easy of a win as we might have thought for his side. As a result he lost even more money leading into a date with the Eagles this week. Surely this is the week he’ll break through for a large score, I’d back him for 130+. Looking beyond that, his Round 13 bye will be a massive advantage and he should outperform his current price pretty easily barring getting completely shut down by a tag. However it’s just not looking like he’ll be a tippity top mid this year like some predicted. Solid option nonetheless
Hugh McCluggage – 474.5k, (-171.8k), 75 AVG, 77 BE
McCluggage rewarded those who traded him in last week including myself, giving us a nice score of 111 in close to 80% TOG. He looks to be settling back in to form in the Lion’s midfield and is criminally cheap for what he can provide. Now is a good time to get him in after a couple of solid weeks and his price still being low. One thing to be wary of is the upcoming matchup with Geelong, who should present a much tougher matchup than Essendon and Carlton combined. However I don’t think they’ll send Mullin to him like they have in the past, given his slow return to form and the form of Neale and Ashcroft. Again, this probably won’t be his year to be a top mid, but its really hard to say no at this price for all 3 of these guys
Incoming Price Drops
Nick Daicos – 567.1k, 173 BE
Matt Rowell – 564.1k, 167 BE
Bailey Smith – 627.7k, 152 BE
Isaac Heeney – 651.3k, 147 BE
Rucks
Not gonna lie, at this stage I don’t think I’d bother with a ruck upgrade that isn’t Xerri, Grundy, Jackson or Gawn. They’ll all cost you a Kidney and a couple of fingers, but they’re all averaging 127+ which is 20 points better than the next best. Rowan Marshall looks to have figured it out, but you can just get him in the forwardline anyway. Watch the form of English when he returns after this week too.
Incoming Price Drops
Brodie Grundy – 676.5k, 183 BE (He might get that against Steene)
Forwards
Touk Miller – 483.2k, (-102.8k), 99 AVG, 87 BE
Listing the same 2 options here as I did last week. We wanted to see if Touk could go back to back tons and he did just that, showing he might be turning the corner. He should be a top 6 forward and definitely offers a more consistent option than a lot of our other targets in this line. Look to get him in now if you’re in the market for a forward, but if you have to wait he probably won’t be unaffordable in the coming weeks anyway.
Izak Rankine – 463.8k, (-75.6k), 86 AVG, 42 BE
I wanted Rankine to prove he was back in form last week and he went off against the Tigers. He’s got his midfield time back from Rachele and looks so much sharper than the start of the year. He does have a tough run of games coming up, but if he plays like that it shouldn’t matter too much. He’ll still be up and down, but if you’re looking for a forward upgrade he’s hard to go past at this price, where he won’t be for much longer.
Incoming Price Drops
Kysaiah Pickett – 542.5k, 150 BE
Jason Horne-Francis – 481.3k, 142 BE
Let me know if there’s anyone else you’re targeting as usual and good luck for the week
TU – Anderson
TD – Mcclaggage
Great write up Billbur! You seem to be a lot more sure on Rankine than I am!
Thanks for a great write up Billbur
