Captaincy Candidates – Round 17

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

TARANTO v Swans

  • L3 v Swans: 115, 72, 119 (102 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 128, 147, 118 (113 av.)

Blinked for the first time last week. High stakes clash against the Swans back in Melbourne will be apt conditions for him to return to his 120 average. Don’t mind Gulden here either.

BONTEMPELLI v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 125, 92, 76 (98 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 114, 169, 125 (136 av.)

Expect the Pies’ lightning warfare style to crash into the Dogs contested possesion and repeat stoppage system. Usually don’t like players into the ultra dense Pies but expect Bont to step up and lead the way for 125.

ENGLISH v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 96, 63, 70 (76 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 127, 133, 99 (120 av.)

Tingles remains a great proposition week to week. He’ll shred Cameron and Cox. A lock for 130.

Captaincy Candidates

NEALE v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 123, 133, 166 (141 av.)
  • L3 @ G: 143, 144, 128 (138 av.)

Finding some real nice backend scoring. Comes under immeadiate consideration with the Eagles at home and has the strongest L3 numbers of any candidate this week. Slight asterisk on O’Neill going to him after pulling a job on Sinclair the week before, but even then the chasm between the Eagles and Lions should still see him on for 120+.

PETRACCA v Saints

  • L3 v Saints: 106, 92, 127 (108 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 81, 114, 148 (114 av.)

The Saints’ biggest issue right now is their uninfluential and soft midfield. Well down on all key numbers. Steele, Crouch and whoever else they cut through there will be no match for Petracca. Sails to 140.

ROZEE v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 113, 94, 125 (111 av.)
  • L3 @ AO: 111, 98, 140 (116 av.)

Port are just off tap at the moment. Their exuberant young midfield will relish a soft kill after a string of intense outings. Butters and Rozee on for 120s, both will be nice POD Cs this week. Listed Rozee because he had a full scoring history v Suns. Butters either missed or injured in previous’ Suns clashes.

Steer Clear

  • ESSENDON v ADELAIDE

I’ve put the entire Dons Crows game under the Steer Clear this week, not with any certitude and forcefulness, but just because things are a little hard to read there and all other named candidates are simpler propositions. For Baird and Dawson, it’s the fact they’re not playing at AO where they’re markedly better. Their scores against North last week were disconcerting as well. Beginning the write up this week, I was hot on Zerrett. Lethal form, high stakes. The issue for him is potentially that Keays goes to him. While he did play on the outside last week and didn’t really latch onto Daicos the week prior, Zerrett’s influence can be explosive and one that Keays could quickly put the screws to. Also prefer him at the G instead of Marvel. They’ll all probably still ton and it’ll be a great game with plenty of scaling on offer, just note the

MERRETT v Crows

  • L3 v Crows: 143, 135, 120 (133 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 137, 111, 114 (121 av.)

LAIRD v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 143, 123, 97 (121 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 125, 123, 143 (130 av.)

DAWSON v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 97, 122, 73 (97 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 80, 134, 97 (104 av.)

Smoky Pick

LIBERATORE v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 128, 108, 106 (114 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 121, 115, 139 (125 av.)

Could see Libba honestly top scoring here with a signature under the radar coal face game even with the Pies new found contested dominance. A look for 150 given his large ones come on the big occaisons.

GREEN v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 97, 97, 79 (91 av.)
  • L3 @ GS: 127, 89, 100 (105 av.)

Looking to press a 110 season average and did himself a big favour with last week’s 38 touch outing. MG and K:HB ratio held him back but that came very much as a feature of the conditions. Hawks a little disjointed currently, so he should be able to nab them for 130.

History

  • Round 1: Green 132
  • Round 2: Baird 147
  • Round 3: Satan 156
  • Round 4: Tingles 145
  • Round 5: Tingles 137
  • Round 6: Miller 40
  • Round 7: Satan 134
  • Round 8: Satan 136
  • Round 9: Tingles 88
  • Round 10: RoMo 126
  • Round 11: Baird 115
  • Round 12: Daicos 123
  • Round 13: Daicos 118
  • Round 14: Dunkley 137
  • Round 15: Gulden 164
  • Round 16: Daicos 149

Verdict

Bont into Neale. Would prefer Neale to come first as VC and even a look at Zerrett but need to take some insurance against what will be a highly selected combination this week.

  1. I’m desperate this week. Taking on the one and only Shorty from Shortys SuperCoach in leagues and my team is miles behind his! So my vc and c are just picks that he doesn’t have in an attempt to get myself a miracle win! Gulden vc into Merrett. Good luck all.

  2. I think I will find picking Vc and C a lot less stressful when Bont starts playing late games. Can have more of a speccy pick at VC. Last week was so stressful having Sinclair as C in last game. Then he started so badly and somehow got the miracle CD bump.
Neale into Rozee for me. Think it won’t be long until Daicos is almost a perma choice for VC or C, like Bont is now. He actually might be there already and I am just slow to accept.

  4. Take Bont’s 123 or put all chips in on Neale?
TU: Don’t be greedy take Bont’s score
TD: Neale to go big, get on.
