Captaincy Candidates – Round 19

Captaincy Candidates

Bontempelli v Lions

L3 v Lions: 99, 89, 108

L3 @ G: 108, 138, 166

L3 MID v Lions: 131, 113, 110

With the Dogs sitting outside the eight despite a bussing percentage and high output from their top end, the big man will need to salute once again. Gets down at the Gabba okay too.

Butters v Hawks

L3 v Hawks: 135, 127, 105

L3 @ UT: N/A

L3 MID v Hawks: 121, 116, 108

The Hawks were reluctant to tag either of Brayshaw or Serong last week, so with Port deluding themselves that they can play finals but should have free reign in the guts.

Grundy v Roos

L3 v Roos: 113, 121, 89

L3 @ SCG: 127, 179, 161

L3 RUC v Roos: N/A

Oh, baby. I’m hitching my wagon to Grundy and first drop he gets a Xerri-less North. Tremendous! Heeney and Gulden also fun shouts.

Dawson v Suns

L3 v Suns: 124, 82, 106

L3 @ AO: 98, 108, 138

L3 MID v Suns: 85, 159, 104

Relishes and open contest, which is exactly what the Suns midfield profile provides: contested conditions, repeat stoppages and no defensive match ups. Like Dawson as this week’s fall back.

Brayshaw v Pies

L3 v Pies: 154, 84, 114

L3 @ MCG: 120, 137, 107

L3 MID v Pies: 156, 85, 110

Always liked WA boys on playing at the G, with its similar proportions to Optus. The Pies were exposed on ball, so expected JL to bring an extra up to the stoppage and try to define the game that way.

Smoky Picks

Green v Dons

L3 v Dons: 116, 119, 99

L3 @ MRVL: 95, 116, 82

L3 MID v Dons: 67, 127, 103

GWS to enter the waste management business this week and dispatch of Essendon. Tom Green to channel Tony Soprano. Love this for owners.

McCluggage v Dogs

L3 v Dogs: 135, 85, 64

L3 @ G: 122, 100, 159

L3 MID v Dogs: 157, 94, 146

And, finally, we’re also liking Cluggers. Hard to predict his spike games as they’re really coverage and condition dependent but I can see two high outside ball generating sides clashing producing favourable terms for the current M4

Steer Clear

Zerrett v Giants

Bedford. GWS decapitate Zezz, they decapitate Essendon. Pass.

Gawn v Blues

Just don’t love Max slogging it into two rucks. Suppose if you’re without some of the named candidates I don’t mind but don’t hold your breath.

Daicos v Dockers

Will get sat on by Wagner and I didn’t love those knocks he copped last week. Also a pass.

Verdict

I’ve got Grundy into Brayshaw in what is a deceptively thin week. If anyone wants some specific look ups, as always, let me know below.

      • Heeney is such a POD that even if he goes big without me captaining, I still enjoy the fruits of it. I VC’d him earlier in the year vs North and he burnt me so there’s a bit of trauma there. Hope he goes big this week regardless!

  1. Any love for the Geelong boys? Trying to do Grundy VC, so need a C that plays after (and don’t own any of the crow/freo guns). Thanks

    • Yeah, Saints just tricky to predict.

      Haven’t tagged lately though.

Smith a light week at training and Holmes does a fraction better at GMHBA, so maybe Holmes if anything?
