Captaincy Candidates – Round 20

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

XERRI v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 91, 102, 68
  • L3 @ BA: 119, 103, 51

The #1 ruck on total points versus the best ruck opponent going around. Xerri owners, it’s time. The big fella goes 130. LDU I also love here, as well as Sheezel. Did hear that Sheezel had a minor ankle complaint but is named. They’ll all fill up.

NEALE v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 168, 87, 128
  • L3 @ PFS: 87, 108, 107

No Miller and Fatt Rowell in non-form will see Neale and Dunks devastate the Suns at center bounce. A lock for 140. Flanders always finds heaps of it but not sure he’ll have much of a ceiling against the Lions?

MERRETT v Saints

  • L3 v Saints: 131, 88, 91
  • L3 @ MRVL: 108, 135, 94

Saints haven’t run an on ball tagger in a bit so thinking a stand out performance from Zerrett to steady the ship should go unmitigated by the Saints. Solid for 120.

Captaincy Candidates

GREEN v Dees

  • L3 v Dees: 128, 115, 64
  • L3 @ MCG: 93, 97, 92

Quite like Green here against the Dees’ empty midfield. He was strong last round with 34 and really won’t have any push back in that contested space this week. A lock for 120.

SERONG v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 117, 97, 146
  • L3 @ OS: 140, 84, 121

Easy proposition here: Serong, Eagles, 130.

DAICOS v Tigers

  • L3 v Tigers: 109, 80
  • L3 @ MCG: 106, 89, 92

On paper, this too should be another easy proposition but Daicos has looked a little gassed of late and the Tigers have sporadically tagged. Either gets condemned to a sub-ton or is left alone and does indeed relish a match up against the Tigers for 130. High variance bail out.

Steer Clear

Thinking Butters gets Cincotta and Bontempelli potentially gets Adams after he went to Neale the week prior. Both Blues Port and Swans Dogs, I think, will be similar to Lions Swans last week with two strong on ball brigades crashing into each other and thus marking it hard for a VC/C to break through.

Smoky Pick

GAWN v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 111, 130, 163
  • L3 @ MCG: 100, 114, 132

This would take balls but totally feels like a Max thing to do to come back from injury early and rip a 140. Briggs is just the opponent to do it against as well; having lost that physicality to his game this year. Moyle beat him in the HOs 25-36 last week.

History

  • Round 1: Green 152
  • Round 2: Green 137
  • Round 3: Gulden 73
  • Round 4: Butters 119
  • Round 5: Rowell 135
  • Round 6: Daicos 133
  • Round 7: Rowell 136
  • Round 8: Merrett 121
  • Round 9: Daicos 147
  • Round 10: Butters 127
  • Round 11: Ryan 132
  • Round 12: Daicos 156
  • Round 13: Satan 97
  • Round 14: Zorko 141
  • Round 15: Flanders 117
  • Round 16: Yeo 64
  • Round 17: Gawn 100
  • Round 18: Cameron 131
  • Round 19: Ryan 99

Verdict

Currently have Sheezel into Green but Gawn, Daicos and Zerrett all waiting in the wings.

  1. My highest scoring Captain’s pick since the byes has been Dunkley 103 a couple of weeks ago.
I have had Houston – 59 lowest score for the year. Serong – 84 lowest score for the year. Dunkley – 69 lowest score for the year.
So this week I am putting the Kiss of Death on …(drum roll please)…
    VC – Xerri
    C – Neale
Last time North played Geelong, Xerri failed to ton up and Stanley actually did.

  2. I am liking Merrett into Grundy. Grundy at the SCG against a ruckman who isn’t a strong tap ruckman sounds pretty good. Risky I know but seriously what isn’t in Supercoach these days?!?! Good luck all.

  3. Thoughts on Ridley? I know the Essendon backline take points off each other but Essendon should play that kick-mark possession football against the St. Kilda wall, right?

    1. Saints tightened right up with their F50 entries over the last month.

Hasn’t been a big HB score against them in a bit.

Eagles nothing, Adelaide nothing, Blakey 69, Houston 59.

Gotta go back to Zorko’s 141 and Ridley doesn’t have anywhere near the role he does.

Ridley actually been play on the #1 FWD and McKay on the 2nd, which is cooked as.

  4. Green into Serong for me.

My Demons leak opposition midfield points. There is always a risk of ANB being played as a tagger, but we didn’t against Serong last week and he went 140.

Serong against WCE is a no brainer!

It’s been a rough few weeks. Will take anything over 110
