Game Chat – Geelong v Port

Written by Motts on August 14 2020

Where and when: Metricon Stadium, 7:50pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R14 2019, Port 9.13 (67) DEF Geelong 8.8 (56)

What it means for Geelong: The Cats were dominant against The Saints on Monday. They’ll be looking to cement their spot in the 4 with a win over the Power. Can it be done on a 4 day back up though?

What it means for Port: The win over Richmond showed grit and guts. The Power want to win this to further frank their premiership credentials and keep a game clear at the top of the ladder.

Motts Watch: Very keen to see how Geelong perform against one of the better sides in the comp after failing against West Coast and Collingwood in the last month.

Mottsy’s Tip: Port by 20.

  1. Wrong chat but I want to vent my frustration at Buckley dropping stephson. Not happy jan! He has a new roll higher up the ground so let him grow into it. Yes, he has been quiet but in all honesty you can’t be serious as I believe someone once said….

  2. Sturt out and Woodcock in. Will have 13 trades left after this.

TU – burn a trade but bank $60,000
    TD – Save the trade

Forget the fancy haircuts and all that shit, knuckle down, fly under the radar and command some respect from those that matter.

    1. I feel like Hinkley picks people of form, more so than most coaches. If he plays well, he should hold his spot. Ebert back next week though.

  4. Great news, not relevant to this thread but with the extra 3 trades and best 18 over rounds 14-16 I believe Gawn is a must trade now and bring back in later if hes in form. The extra freedom should be huge for my team in finishing off and being covered for injuries.

  5. Praying Georgiades doesn’t go huge the week ive traded him out. Love watching him play but he was ripe to move on for my team. Also not sure who i want to win but hope it as good as a game as the richmond port game last week.

      1. Classic rookie , go alright when against not much out of depth against good sides. Good learning curve!

  10. Do I trust Fyfe again in my midfield – can’t believe I’m contemplating trading him back into my side again, after being burnt by him in previous seasons, trading him in this season in R4 only to trade him out again injured in R7. Now with the announcement of how rounds 14-18 are going to work, Freo has 4 matches in 14 days, so he will be rested or parked in the forward line for sure. And yet, I’m still tempted, because of the amount of 120+ scores he manages all too regularly.

TU: Trade Fyfe in, he’s had the bye & he’s worth the risk
TD: Avoid – look elsewhere and save the heartache.

    1. do you have Merrett?? Should produce similar, with no games missed and seems more durable … will just depend on how the Bombers go though … they could miss the 8 … hmmm

      1. Only issue with Zerrett is that he beats up on average teams but seems to struggle v genuine Top 8 opponents with inside depth.

        1. yeah its a difficult call to make .. and with Duncan scoring down the last few weeks, not great with mids scoring poorly …

      2. Tossing up between Fyfe & Merrett Macca. Think I’ve decided to bring in Merrett this week and by trading out Gawn, having the extra cash means I will be able to turn Simpson with his hammy into Fyfe next week. That’s the thought at this stage. Merrett with the lower BE than Fyfe.

  11. ****** From the Herald Sun website tonight :

The schedule for finals in head-to-leagues has also been locked in.

Finals will start in Round 14 and skip a round before continuing in Round 16. This dodges the most treacherous bye round when six teams — Geelong, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs — all have the week off, avoiding SuperCoach elimination finals being decided purely on the number of players available — or unavailable — that week.

The three extra trades will be added to the season total.

Here’s how the rest of the season will play out in KFC SuperCoach:

    R12 — normal week: best 22, max 3 trades
    R13 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades
    R14 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 1
    R15 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H week off
    R16 — bye round: best 18, max 3 trades + H2H finals week 2
    R17 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H finals week 3
    R18 — normal week: best 22, max 2 trades + H2H Grand Final
