Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows
Hi Everybody!
When making out last few trades and setting out teams up for the run home, it will help to know what your goal is, and if there is any path to that goal. It will also help to know what sorts of failing are ok.
For example, if you want to get as high a score as possible, and currently have a low score, then you may need to take some risks in order to move up. How much risk? How much failing can you handle? If you would like to climb as far as you safely can, then you will look at different players and using more trade now than if you are willing to crash and burn if things do not work out. Somewhere in between? Also fine, whatever works for you!
For example, how many trades do you use to get in high scoring players now when they still have time to make an impact. All of them? Rookie backups? If you have no injuries, you’ll do better than if you saved some trades for injuries. But, if a key player goes down, then you will be hurting for the rest of the season, taking a cow, or maybe even nobody in his place. Best 23 helps with that. If you have a good best 23, then one injury is not as bad as if we were still using best 22. But, it won’t be good either.
Another question is who to get. High risk and high reward like cheap Tom Liberatore? I mean, he looks more like a fallen premium than a risk, but, on the other hand, last month or so, not so good. Grab Gulden and hope he can keep up the 120? A lot more risk there. Fade Bont? (not recommended.)
Keeping a high rank you have the same choices but more downside. If you fall from 10K to 20K, well, does that matter? But falling from 1K to 10K, that kinda matters. Well, unless you figure there si #1 and the rest, in which case go for it and play to get lucky, if you think you need to.
There is probably a lot to be said for having some quality cover and a two trades left, if that can be managed. At this point 6+ trades may be too many with a finished team!
Another thing is that when finishing off your team, you probably want to get the best player(s) you can. If you have managed to be trade poor and cash rich ,then go ahead and get the best player whatever they cost. Cash in the bank scores no points!
We’re very close to the end of the Cow Talk season. Byes done, teams complete, hardly any cows of importance. Not sure just when we will end for the season, but probably not too long now.
I’m only doing guy who we seem to care about. The cows we started with are mostly gone, although a few may still be lingering.

Dodgy Advice: Well….if you do not care about leagues and are going for as high a score as possible, take some risks!

I am time zonally challenged. When Cow Talk goes live, I’m probably asleep, so replies from me may take a while.
Thanks for reading!
